We were out storm chasing from Arkansas to Oklahoma on 4/27/24, we originally parked in a place that was prime for super cellular reaction, but quickly followed real time convection. We followed rotation until we were blocked by local police, so we turned around to find a new route, but that route lead us to a dead end, due to construction. We went back to follow that rotation, but that rotation never produced even a funnel cloud, and we couldn't catch up to it anyways. So, we went south and parked in some flat plains and waited for rotating storms from Texas to head our way. While we were there, we filmed the storm rolling in, and the lightning that came with it. Eventually followed by another cell forming rotation that was moving too quick. We chased that rotation until we couldn't any more, it also never produced any ground connection. We chased every possibility that we had.
Fortunately no devastating tornados came about from this storm outbreak.
All in all, we got footage of a funnel cloud in the midst of all of this, but that's worth it.
Sometimes you get night-time rotation, and can't photograph anything, until you see the footage in the lightning. Sometimes you only get lightning. Sometimes you get nothing. Sometimes you get a tornado in your hometown, sometimes you get a photogenic tornado. Sometimes you get SLC's. Sometimes you put yourself in a dangerous position in order to relay the pertinent information that you see, and that helps save lives. Sometimes it works for you, and sometimes it doesn't.
