Why I'm scared to turn 30
Turning 30 feels like a huge milestone, and it's honestly terrifying. In this video, I dive deep into what my 20s really looked like: navigating career struggles, rejection, and the overwhelming pressure to succeed early in life. From changing majors in college to trying (and failing) to "make it" in creative industries, I reflect on the highs, lows, and lessons learned along the way.
If you’ve ever felt stuck, lost, or like you’re not where you "should" be, this is for you. Let’s unpack the societal pressure of early success, the challenges of content creation, and how to embrace growth, failure, and self-discovery as we move into our 30s.
Also, making this as it's near the new year and a little reintroduction of myself. "New Year, New Me" kind of

This is another lesson that I've learned from this gap year. TH-cam is a completely different beast to when I started TH-cam in 2013 or 2008 depending on what you consider starting lol Anyways, like I said, low key videos for the holidays and then I'm starting my bi weekly uploads in the new year. On September 2023, I quit my job. I decided that I will give myself on year to make it as a TH-camr. This wasn't the first time I've tried. In the past 17 years of trying TH-cam, I would upload consistently for a couple of months and stop. For this gap year, I uploaded 44 videos in this year (some are unlisted) That's almost weekly. I didn't start weekly uploads until January. Now that the gap ...

I saw a clip of yours on tic tok and it hit home. Im a little older than you and making videos has been a goal of mine for years. But ive always kept pushing it back. This year I'm going to give it a shot. I don't expect anything and just going to see how it goes. Thanks again for your inspiration
Love this!
"even if the first person you need to get comfortable sharing to is yourself" Damn. Another absolute banger of a video, thank you for sharing!! I love your work.
Came from TikTok you got a new supporter
What I miss a lot on the old TH-cam is the video search engine. Back then you could type in one word and you were to find many videos using the word you have typed in as video tag. Nowadays you type in one word and you get every video but hardly a single one that fits to the word from your search. Then all the ads and it's far worse when you use YT on a TV. Can't watch a single video without getting at least one 30-45 seconds ad. Another thing is that back when TH-cam wasn't all about money people made videos because they wanted to express something with them and made them like they wanted them to be. Nowadays it's all about what brings in the most clicks, clickbaits, annoying thumbnails or TN that resemble those of pr0n websites, tons of spam videos without any real content, all them latin playlist for each musician which makes it impossible to find actual new videos of the artist themselves and all these annoying spam comments with more nudity on the channels profile pictures.... I could go on and on about this.
I'm in my thirties and idk what I'm doing either, I don't think anyone really does tbh. But I will say that so far, my 30s have been the best in terms of personal growth and creativity. This is going to sound morbid but when I start to spiral about what could've been, I think of something I read once, "there is no being behind in life, if the end game for all of us is death." Basically, it doesn't matter how old you'll be when xyz happens, time is going to pass anyway but you'll never get today back.
I remember commenting about this video on your TikTok account, but I came across the thumbnail for this video on TH-cam, too, so I had to come back and watch this again. Your content is SOOO good!! ✨️
All of my thoughts resonate with everything that you said and more. I'm 31 and I had no idea at 28yo that I would be starting life all over again. Losing, gaining and losing again. Figuring everything out all over again. Not sure of anything anymore. We all go through seasons the same as the 🌎 does. Constant change. Nothing stays the same. We just have to ride the wave 🌊
I've been thinking all day today "What if everything that you need is right in front of you?" Im looking all over the place, far and wide trying to find something else. Happened to Google it and your video came up. This video was great, girl! I can see your cinematic skills for sure. Better than most people I've seen with a huge audience. Please keep it up! I'm a new subscriber. Can't wait to see more. ❤ Happy new year to everyone🎉
I love your videos , I like the way you edit.
big fan. Love being human. Hate this place. Love it here
cheers to 30. I'm right there with you. hmu if you're ever in chicago again!
this editing is so good🤩 TH-cam is sleeping on her.

I'll be 30 in February, and my god. And I'm experiencing something similar.
I turn 31 in about a month, and I can say that I thought the same a few years ago: turning 30 was going to be this terrifyingly huge milestone, and that I'm supposed to have it all figured out by the time I'm 30. It's not, and you won't necessarily have it all figured out by 30. IMO societal pressures to succeed early on in life are partly there to push you to do your best. If that pressure wasn't there, you may not have as much reason to push yourself. As long as you're doing your best, that's all anyone can ask of you. If you feel that you could be doing more or better, that's a good. It means you care about your place in the world and what you're doing. If you didn't care, you may not have as much reason to do your best. Also, I agree that we as a society are drawn to people who are wildly successful early on in life. Like you said, we have the 30 under 30 list, and we celebrate these successful startup founders who make it big before turning 30. This is statistically extremely unusual. Most successful startup founders are actually in their mid-40s. And quite a few of these under 30 startup founders who are supposedly successful actually committed wanton fraud to APPEAR successful, for the fame and attention. And from my personal experience, your 30s and 40s are your magnum opus decades. You've gained knowledge (of yourself and the world) and maturity you lacked in your 20s, but you still have a lot of your youthful energy and vigor. You're entering the phase of life when you're at your most capable and effective. IMO It's an exciting time for us Just my 2 cents
I'm 32 and I feel this, glad to know I'm not alone
This video hits home. As a 33 year old woman with a BA in illustration, photography and film, a masters in media psychology and a masters in global marketing....who has moved country and had a kid. I have no idea. I am thinking maybe a PhD in child development will give me focus which i highly doubt. So i am just writing a novel and flapping my arms around. I have no answers for you... drink more water hahahaha.
I'm 33. All I can say is that 33 is 3 times 11, and 30 is 3 times 10. Hope this helps.
So glad another content creator shared your work, this is exactly my kind of thing!
If you base your worth on how big of a piece you are in the machine you are doomed to be miserable regardless of your age.
you know these videos remind me of Bo burnham in a way and I appreciate them so much you doing great
You’re absolutely hilarious Arielle and thanks for bringing these kind of things up and being so vulnerable about them 🧡
This is amazing. Thanks for this, I don't feel so alone anymore.
I just came from TikTok and I immediately loved your personality and storytelling. Rooting for you!
hope you have a happy and healthy new year Arielle
I love the big bold red letters really brings the point hope
This is a constant struggle for me too. I feel like I put so much time and effort into my content and I don't see a lot of reward. It can kill my desire to make things, especially when I have to survive. Your stuff is great. Keep going, I know it's hard but you're on the right track. Rooting for you.
This was much needed im hitting the beginning of what youre talking about . Its super scary but this video was comforting
I just stumbled upon your account on tiktok, and am subscribing here because I want to follow your journey! Something I regret not doing in my late twenties is recording my doubts and fears and emotions honestly and candidly. I would love to be able to look back and see how far I've come. Your ability to produce and film this will bear so much fruit, even in just a few years. And you've inspired me to start documenting my life right now even if I don't feel "ready". Thank you!!
Excellent job on the editing and scripting on this video. It felt very real. And someone almost in their 40s I can tell you the 20s are the worst the 30s get a lot better and I am super excited for my 40s.
I follow a lot of lesser-known music artists. Just because they don’t have the majority of humans listening to their music doesn’t make their music bad or ‘unsuccessful.’ I love your abstract videos, and more importantly, your honesty. Just because something is popular doesn’t make it good. Keep on keeping on ❤❤
As someone in their early twenties this video feels good, I sometimes feel so much pressure to figure everything now, and your video reminds me that those standards are toxic
Is that an OPOSSUM?!
Good luck!
I felt the same in my 20s, it was a mess. My 30s were much better because I had more life experience and skills, so I began to feel more comfortable with myself. Now that I'm 41 I'm looking to do another career change, but I don't know what I want to do, so I'm feeling a bit lost again. But I know things will work out and that I will be okay, it's just annoying feeling a bit lost. Edit: Also, in my 30s, I stopped comparing myself to others. And I stopped caring about what others thought about me. I learned that both of those things lead to insecurities that are not helpful in me finding myself.
That multi shot was sick
32 year old here with some perspective! - in my 20s I was so sure of what I was going to do and how I was going to do it, but COVID changed everything. I work in “hands on” healthcare so it was literal survival mode for months and then all the things I was sure of were crumbling around me. My life fell apart in a weird way because so much of my job was who I was. So much of what I perceived as success was tied to my work. But it forced me to confront who I was without chasing this version of me I thought I would/should be and just see who I am now. It’s lovely that you know the kind of person you are and, even if things don’t make sense yet, those qualities will take you further in whatever path you choose than just blind ambition. Be gentle with yourself! Even if you come equipped with a whole plan, life will flow where it may.
what a nice stroll down memory lane
You are a star!!!! I love that ❤️❤️
For the price, PAL’s business class is a bargain…not as fancy as the other airlines but not as expensive.
In which phone you used for shoot this films.?
I used an iPhone 15 Pro, using the Apple Log color profile
Not you calling my ass out while I’m watching😅 Fr though thank you for the mention and you’re certainly right. TH-cam has gotten a lot more corporate repetitive ness going on since people like DREAM and Mr Beast came up and with the advent of “retention editing”🤮 I’ve been seeing more and more things that focus on profiting off of content instead of making something of quality. That’s why I like videos like yours even ones like this that are lowkey because you can tell the intentionality behind decisions and that there’s a certain feeling those decision result in. Which make the videos more fun to watch at least for me.
HELL YEAHHHH
It's so funny. I remember being in a collab channel in 2012, right as I was finishing high school, and feeling like I had missed the boat back then as well. I don't think it's ever felt easy to do this. But I do it anyway!
Also heck yeah VHS camcorders! I have one too! I really want to use it but the battery does not hold a charge and I'm kind of confined to my own computer room
I miss that era of our TH-cam friends collabing and helping each other out.
My memories our little TH-cam group with all the collab videos and meeting up at playlist live are something I’ll never forget. Long live collab channels too lol
@ honestly that playlist live trip was the most magical experience and I think about that time fondly.
