THANK YOU. Pharoah always.
😢😂❤😊!🙏
The opening tune is fascinating. Pharoah does his familiar overblowing. Yet it's in the context of a seemingly subdued arrangement. The fact that it is not forced is what makes him so unique and talented
Many years ago alive broadcast in London on BBC radio , can't remember the band . But the leader said how refreshing it was to see so many brothers in the audience. At the end of this set a look at the audience , nearly all white. A Black music genre being kept alive by whites , who are as a group being accused of being racist.
Amazing Musician ! 👏👏👏👏👏
Who played piano? Love his extended solo!

Art Ensemble of Chicago Yoshi's Claremont Ave. Oakland Sunday January 8, 1995 second set Lester Bowie Roscoe Mitchell Famadou Don Moyé Malachi Favors
Yoshi's (the old Yoshi's) on Claremont in Oakland -- spectacular room acoustics -- bands taped for release here. The is Sunday, the last of a five night run, the Early Show. All five nights got stealth taped expertly. Amazing music by the Art Ensemble. Big thanks Fearless Pharaoh & Friends for getting this out.
Thank you for your service. No, seriously, that could sound facetious but I'm grateful for people that have helped preserve the magic.
Are there more of the shows from the old Yoshi's posted? Not just AEoC, but any of the shows. I lived by there from 1990 to 1995 and saw a lot of shows there.
@@whodroppedthefruit Yoshi's shows got stealth taped semi-regularly. Not every show or every run, but for some bands yes -- by several tapers, one steady but selective (avant garde focus) plus others. Bands were booked for five nights, two shows. Usually you could see the Late Show with the Early Show ticket thanks to limited demand for in-your-face jazz at 10:00 p.m. From 92 thru 98 and after. Besides Art Ensemble (also recorded Santa Cruz -- a flying score), Anthony Braxton, Don Cherry, Steve Coleman, David Murray 3 runs, Pharoah Sanders 5 runs (93 w/ Charnett Moffett), Cecil Taylor 2 runs, Henry Threadgill, Don Byron, Betty Carter, James Carter, Marilyn Crispell, Kamikaze Ground Crew, Steve Lacy, John Tchicai, McCoy Tyner.
@@whodroppedthefruit Then we saw a lot of shows together.
@@whodroppedthefruit I am sure there are, but I don't have access to them in order to share them, here. I will note that one of the surviving members of the Art Ensemble posted a positive reaction to one of these recordings, which I took as a a good sign. Hopefully more recordings of similarly inspired performances will surface and be shared.
at the old Yoshi's on Claremont in Oakland -- the second set, not the "late show".

SO good to hear this -- and Pharoah looking so young. Abounding gratitude. Closeup of Hicks' hands at around 52:00 following is a miracle.
Joya! Lacy realmente fue, es como un cohete de conocimiento y Praxis humana que llega a zonas interestelares internas y externas. Gracias.
Love that bubbly coltraney sound he gets in I want to talk about you.
Just close your eyes and go on a journey.
Part 2?
Pharoah Sanders, tenor sax; John Hicks, piano; Walter Booker, acoustic double bass; Idris Muhammad, drums.
It's probably one of the most sublime pieces of music I have ever heard. Funny how you often find those kind of things in the most unexpected places and moments, like in this obscure video of some performance hardly anyone has heard about.

I just don't get how is it possible to have only a few comments on on this celebration of life ... ! Cycles and rhythms
Saw Pharoah probably more than any other artist maybe 30 times from Boston to DC. In 84 saw Pharaoh reunion with Leon Thomas at Crampton Hall, Howard U. What a tremendous show.

Awesome to hear Pharoah on a Phrygian Sketches-Of-Spain style song
This performance is simply a masterpiece. May the the preserver of such beauty be blessed many times over. And thank you to the musicians for sharing your souls, you will not be forgotten. Rest in Peace.
“Sharing your souls” - a beautifully true sentiment! Thank you❤

One of the greats, who left us, with a treasure trove of celestial masterpieces. Man am I glad to have grown up in the 1970s. Rest in peace, to all the greats who's musical poetry has forever schetched its imagination into our hearts and minds.
Peace Love Jazz Pharoah John Walter Idris thank you Fearless

Remarkable sound and picture quality, considering this is from almost 40 years ago. Nice job & thanks.

Makes me want get up dance all around my Flat. I live in England, UK. All my Best wishes, whoever reads my comments. Anyway, Peace to all!!
Hello neighbour, I live next door in Scotland. Have found this gem as a result of being laid up from ankle fracture, every cloud etc…..I’m dancing body and soul👩🏻🦽🏴🫶
We used to dance to Pharoah at the top of Yoshi's balcony. Best acoustics in that perfect room, too. With help from the woman who played violin with Camper Van Beethoven and sometime waitressed there -- her name is escaping me 30 years later. But not her. Pharoah Pharoah Pharoah. Says it all. He was my introduction to jazz -- a master class from a class master -- at the Both/And on Diviz in SF in 1972. ComPLETEly blew my mind. Heard a LOT of him at Yoshi's (the old Yoshi's, on Claremont in Oakland) in the 80s and 90s. Exceptional video here & nice sound. Big thanks.
Amen.
