    A lot of people thought the one-way valve will stop the hot water from circulating on the cold water side. Yes, it will after reaching a pre-set temperature. However, the fact that using the cold water (potable) it has some residue hot water within it proves that you will be drinking water from the water heater. Typically hot water tanks have higher contaminates of heavy metal and the leaching within the tank. In essence you will be drinking from the potable water that contains hot water. To completetely isolate that problem you do need dedicated lines on the return so as not to get into the cold side. However, that gets expensive with the additional plumbing.

    I know you followed the directions, but, I’m wondering why it is necessary to drain the hot water heater? Seems like once the water supply is off, and release pressure in the line, you’d be ok to disconnect the line at the hot water heater, and install the pump…. Thoughts?

    After installation of the Watts Hot Water Recirculating Pump,I started using it right away. As long as the pump is running all is fine, but when the pump shuts off I have pipe bumping at the faucet where the bypass valve is installed, when running water in the kitchen. I installed an arrester on the Hot water side at the by pass valve, and still have bumping when running water at the kitchen with the pump off, I turn on the pump and it stops. Should it take an arrester on the cold water too, to stop the bumping?

  • @henryt9254
    @henryt9254 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very easy job to alleviate the problem. However, there are cons with this system. Unless your water heater tank is spiffy clean, the potable water that you drink will be mixed with the hot water from the tank. Imagine a homeowner that rarely flushes the tank will be consuming all that crude, sediments, deposits and heavy metal deposits within the cold water system.

    He did use Teflon tape to mount the pump. But that is NOT necessary. The pump swivel fitting uses a gasket to seal. And the copper corrugated tube connection swivel also uses a gasket. The gaskets seal the connection. The swivels have straight threads and will not seal anything, even with Teflon tape. It even says it in the instructions " If a gasketed, flexible copper water heater connector is used, pipe dope or Teflon tape is not required."
