This is from a few years back now - July 2021 - taken from a little online concert I played in, in a course.
Chopin Ballade No. 4 - James Mayhew

This is the first performance I did of this exquisite work - I will upload the 2nd rendition at a later date. While there a few things I'm dissatisfied with, including a couple of memory blips, I'm quite content with the emotion. I had a German speaking exam a few hours earlier in the morning so perhaps I was a little freer from that... (Recorded 9th May 2024)

Recorded 3rd February 2023 in a performance class, hence the vocalisation immediately following the final chord.
Ice and snow and fish in Finland - James Mayhew

This is a concise composition I wrote during the summer of 2021 upon being tasked by my teacher to write something that sustained an idea without going on tangents, as was and still is (though now less pervasively) my tendency. About the title... not much to it, except it just came to me after writing the first couple of pages. I did perform it in November 2021 but the recording of the whole co...

Most amazing performance ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
Impressive!
Thank you!
Nice composition! Reminds me a bit of Tailleferre.
Ah interesting to hear - thank you so much!
see my Tchaikovsky PC1 octaves at 11:45 on this video and be amazed (I come from the Tchaikovsky lineage through 2 teachers then Nikolaev - who had Tchaikovsky as harmony/composition teacher): th-cam.com/users/liverIzkyQrtt70
Lift your dang foot
I’m no musician, but I have heard various performances of this piece and I think you all performed extremely well with your God given talents. I liked it very much. Yes strive for perfection in all things, but do not be too hard on yourself. Only Jesus is perfection. Keep up the good performance.
Thank you kindly - it's mainly the opening few minutes in particular where I have a few quite substantial messy places as a result of me being rather stiff. It really made me appreciate just how much harpsichord is not piano! - I found it much more intimidating because it's so easy to play wrong notes because of how light the action is and there's no touch sensitivity with the keys, which did tend to make me quite tense overall in my approach because of the worry of playing wrong notes...
On a separate note the harpsichord is incredibly prominent in this recording so my errors are all the more glaring...
Sounds amazing!!! Thank you for uploading!!
Thank you so much!
Can artificial intelligence create something like this with credibility, I don't think so, to prove my point, I just have to ask, why would anyone with 72 subscribers would publish such music other then for pure unadulterated artistic fun ? now you will have 73 subs and a comment from an old jazz musician. Keep it up.
Thank you very much! I agree - definitely not at the moment but I must confess that I feel weird about the potential of AI one day being able to create genuinely great musical works, but hopefully we can be rest assured that the public will not prefer listening to music created by AI over their fellow humans...
@@jamesmayhew2538 Art has to be relatable, without life experience and feelings you can only replicate the material forms, A.I. jumbles everything it knows into a blender and regurgitates copies of "nothing" and that's not relatable in any sense, it lacks personal specificity. A good outcome would be to force people to go back to the concerts with real artists performing instead of only recorded music, I doubt but wishful thinking doesn't hurt.
@@Jazzmaster58 sorry for the long-awaited reply - yes I agree - who knows though, perhaps at some point it may develop to the point where we can't distinguish between AI and human-produced music... For classical music that might take longer but with the progress for example in AI art I see no reason why it won't happen... Regarding people going to see real artists actually I think people won't stop doing that anyway because we've had recorded music for quite a long time now and nothing compares to the energy of being in the room with a musician in person.
Like an experimental Liszt Carillon.
As a fellow student of this pièce (although I am a much less accomplished student then you), the tempo is too unequal in the first page and a half. Considering how fast you can Play the rest I am pretty sure it is just a matter of practicing these sections with a metronome. Or maybe the nerves getting to you? Because you play the same motifs more equally later on The seventh page shouldnt be played with pedal (you are the first pianiste I hear that uses it) (Omg the fkn ppl walking behind you as you okay this incredible music that took si Many hours yo practice!!!!) Really Solid performance over all Cant imagine how good it is now after more practice! And AT such a young âge
Thanks for your feedback - yeah I’m aware things were a little uneven - partly because my hands were rather cold from waiting in the cold cathedral until the two people before me in that concert had played! But yes partly lack of the apposite practice… Thank you! Yes the cathedral was open to visitors but I was so focused on playing I didn’t notice them lol And yes I like to think that it is a bit better now so hopefully I will perform it again soon
One of the wildest and craziest 19th century piano pieces - love it. The musical equivalent of Victorian architecture at its most ornate.
Yes it really is a fantastically crafted piece - thanks!
Bel concerto , fatto da ( pochi ) strumenti , suonati da Giovani musicisti ( molto ) bravi .
Grazie mille!
Well done everyone!
Thanks!
Incredible performance, how does one even begin to tackle such a colossal piece!
Thanks! Not quite sure myself - it was a lot of work I can tell you…
This is insane! Well done, James! 🙂👍
Thank you so much!
Love this.......
Thanks!
You’re great!
Thank you!
I can't even tell if it's good or no with it not being a real performance
Well it’s quite an old composition of mine from early 2020 so it’s not great Bruh why is it suddenly getting a bunch of views lol
I even got a comment from the troll 'whatismusic' or whatever his/her name is Which I deleted
The piano is not in great condition but you know what is, you
nah I'm afraid not crying emoji
Hot take, but I think Mayhew is one of the best composers in this universe.
r u thinking of a different Mayhew
Quality and quantity
More like complete musical waffle
Very good 👍 👏 👌
Thanks!!
Great performance!
Thanks!
Fantastic performance! I really enjoyed so many of your interpretive ideas.
Thank you so much! Glad to hear - it’s a piece I’ve had on the go for a long time so I think I’ve become quite personal with it Obviously still a way to go…
Great job! Giving me Petri vibes.
Cheers! Ah nice - I should listen to his recording again soon
One of the cleanest performances I have ever seen
Yeah right

One of the clearest performance of Concerto for solo piano I've heard recently!👏👏 I can't imagine how much effort you have put into this difficult masterpiece
Thank you so much! It certainly was rather a lot of work, I can tell you that... Stay tuned over the next 6 months or so - I'll likely perform it again and upload that video.
@@jamesmayhew2538 Wow I'm looking forward to watching it soo much! Btw, do you have a plan to perform other movements of Concerto for solo piano?
@@Pianistic_Jade apologies for the delay - thanks - yeah for sure I do! Can't put a finger on when but I would love to perform the complete concerto hopefully within the next couple of years.
What! Awesome!
Thanks! Yeah I couldn’t have imagined actually performing this upon first discovering it just a few years later
Jazz, Great Job!
Thanks Daveed! 😂
Why on earth they didn't film the keyboard is beyond me
Should we use the microphones? Oh hold on 🐷🐖 Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

What a banger
This is such a weird piece
piece of cake
I made a piece in musescore with a movement downward like that, with a lower instrument added every two measures. th-cam.com/video/MuTDoRhBLiI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Z4cBUP6c_y3Kodf3
Beautiful interpretation . Congratulations to a young talent.🎉🎉
Thank you dearly! I very much appreciate it
