    I spend £17 a week on food but am mostly vegetarian and cook everything my self...but I must have nice coffee and tea. Cheap ones are awful.

    What a wholesome video, I'm not much of a brand guy and i agree with 99% of your advise, observation and honesty. I struggle convincing my wife to give some cheaper options a chance and it's a shame, because it feels like a waste of money "just because".

    I didn't like the Just Essentials Cheese & Tomato Pizza at all that was the worst for me. I think I have bought six of your eight items that sucked (Don't like Garlic and don't buy Pasta Sauce), and they were mostly okay enough for me except for the Cheese & Bean Bakes which I got once and wasn't keen on, so didn't bother again.

    I literally buy 80% of my shopping from the value ranges at Tesco, Asda & Sainsbury's all the time. There is always a quality value product just as good as the dearer brands from any one of these supermarkets sometimes all of them. I literally feel the opposite to you, I feel stupid buying dearer stuff when there is something waaaay cheaper that is perfectly fine. Personally I can easily afford the dearer brands but I just don't see the point in buying them, because I am perfectly happy with the cheaper stuff.

    • @shereece_marc
      @shereece_marc หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s amazing!! Have you always felt that way? I’m sure the more I do it, the more comfortable I’ll become but you’re totally right it makes no sense paying so much more for a miniature improvement in taste!

      @@shereece_marc My mum was always looking for bargains and regularly bought the own brands growing up. I basically just carried over the same behaviour when I started shopping for myself. I figured if the food was good enough for me then why not now. I have actually found that with alot of stuff, I prefer the own brands to the name brands when I have had them when visiting others or others have given them to me when visiting me. Where some items are not as good, I just don't see the justification to pay so much more, even if the item is better. I have also noticed while the cost of living has gone up, branded items are going up at a much faster rate than own brand goods.

    I bought some of the Co-op gravy granules recently to try after seeing Bisto Best was over £4. The Co-op version was 80p I think. It was horrible and didn't have any flavour. I checked the ingredients and there was no beef in it at all! - I ended up buying more Bisto Best (on offer) and have been making gravy up using 3 spoonfuls of Bisto + 1 spoonful of the Co-op one to use it up and it tastes fine

    What works for me for limescale in the kettle is just straight up citric acid powder. I put like a table spoon or two in, fill the kettle up halfway with water and boil it... let it stand for 10-15 minutes and boil again.... and all the limescale is gone. Lemon juice also works, since in essence it's the citric acid doing the work, but when squeezing a fresh lemon in you get a bunch of lemon pulp as well and the peel probably does nothing but make a mess lol. You'd probably also need more lemon juice for it to work. Vinegar also works but citric acid doesn't smell lol. Ohh and I also remove the mesh on the spout when I do this (it's removable on my kettle), since in this instance when cleaning it you want all the limescale crystals to pour out.

    Can you do another video where you are only eating real food that has no added sugar and no added vegetable oils? This means buying fresh vegetables, rice in dried form, tins of pulses and tomatoes, eggs, butter and tea. To cook it all, get a £15 slow cooker, a £25 vegetable steamer and a £30 air fryer. All in this will cost £100 for the week and you will have a massive abundance of the most healthy food you can eat as all of it is real rather than ultra processed. Sugar is a poison and of no nutritional value. It is also expensive when you think of a £1.45 can of Red Bull with four teaspoons of sugar in it. You could buy more than a kilo of sugar for that money and make 100 sugary drinks, if you really needed sugary drinks. Caffeine in coffee does not give you energy, it is always with a crash and tiredness that needs more. It is wiser to just drink black tea, to be alert but calm and able to get eight hours of sleep at night. Food is the best medicine but not if it is ultra processed. Ultra processed makes you ill leading to diabetes, loss of energy, bad skin, bad teeth, dementia, hypertension and so much else that you would not wish on your worst energy. I assure you that you will not look back if you cook real food with veg from Lidl/Aldi using small appliances such as the slow cooker or the air fryer. The steamer is good for rice and eggs, oddly enough. Air fryer chips from a 2Kg bag of potatoes will cost you £2 and you can have them every night. Oven chips get damaged by ice crystals, cost four times the amount and are never as tasty as real chips. Your physical and mental health will be dramatically improved after a week of real food, extend it to a month and, if you can do that, you will always have your best days ahead of you. Make some rules for sugar and ultra processed foods. You could only eat sugar on birthdays or only if dining out or you could have a cheat day once a week. Personally I no longer desire or want sugar, to me it is like wanting to drink alcohol at ten on a Monday morning - not what I need. Sugar damages every cell in the body causing what is known as metabolic dysfunction. Everything from ADHD to obesity is just a variant of metabolic dysfunction. We can do sugar for a while and not even think it is anything to worry about. But, if you come off it, the health benefits are so dramatic and so soon that it feels like a new lease of life. Inflammation due to sugar means joints are not as supple as they should be and you are carrying around lots of weight that causes its own problems. The real disaster is in the liver though, and this is a crucial organ. Sugar also prevents the lower gut from working. What you really need is fibre instead of sugar, then the power really turns on, so you have so much more energy, do not need to eat all the time and don't need the heating or air conditioning turned up. Also you smell better because the body gets rid of sugar through sweat as it is a toxin. Bacteria feed off the sugar to die and stink. So you can skip a few showers a week and save yourself money just by not needing so much hot water. For recipes you can go online or just give things a go by yourself. I use a lot of curry and chili powder to make my food taste good. Your tastebuds change in eight days to want the real food and not the junk. Your biggest anxiety will be an empty fruit bowl. Coupled with this diet you will want to do more exercise without willpower involved. It is best to eat an hour or two before going places and doing things as this keeps your blood sugar level on an even keel. As a single person using small appliances, I spend £30 a week on groceries. I don't have many vegetables in, just 4-5 and shop for them twice a week. I also avoid pasta and salads which I used to eat regularly to pretend I was eating well. But things like lettuce and cucumber are just water. Steamed cabbage is my new lettuce and steamed courgette my new cucumber. The taste is much better and you get the all important fibre. I also have a bread machine - £50 eBay, Panasonic, and that means I always have the best bread in town with lush bakery smells. My bread only has wholemeal and white flour (50:50), water, yeast, salt and butter in it. I use olive oil for the air fryer, buying olive oil that comes in a glass bottle, not plastic. Recycling is not something I care about but I have no plastic in there, just tins and a few jars. My other waste is miniscule. I am so not interested in any 'foods' that have more than one ingredient in them. If it says healthy on the label it is probably laced with sugar and salt, held together with vegetable oils and emulsifiers. I don't waste my money on any of that and I continually expand my interest in vegetables. With the small appliances I can shove any vegetable into one of them to have something tasty to eat. My cupboards are arranged by food groups with a label on them saying what should be in there. I don't use a fridge, freezer or big oven (except for when I make pizza from scratch with my own dough). With the slow cooker I can load it up with everything for a stew, go out all day and come back to fresh bread and fresh stew. To make the switch to real food I used spices and very large portion sizes. This means I am not going hungry. You also need lots of real food to restore the body after years of eating sugar. Sugar and not fat leads to obesity, and, despite vast portion sizes, I lost all my man boobs and belly fat, meaning I have excellent posture now. Weight just drops down to what you should be when you start eating exclusively real food. My self esteem is entirely different now as I know that I am the healthiest and most switched on person in the room. Before I could barely remember three digits whereas now I can take down a whole telephone number without asking for it to be repeated. Several years ago I did what you did in this video and bought Sainsbury's Basics, calling it the Orange Diet. That worked out well for me at the time, however, knowing what I now know, real food is the cheapest food, the best medicine and the best for mental and physical health. There is no way I am going back to ultra processed food, I would prefer to starve!

      Hey! Thanks for sharing, It’s was really informative and I’m very jealous of your bread! In all honesty I absolutely hate cooking and although it’s bad for me I tend to always take the easiest route to food. Hopefully one day when my life slows down a little I can give what I consume a little more love but right now, It’s just not my main priority. I’m really happy for you though that you managed to make such drastic life choices I know it couldn’t have been easy!

      @@shereece_marc True fact: I hate cooking too. That is why I 'don't cook'. I did a nightshift last night and the last thing I wanted to do when I woke up mid afternoon today was cook. So, what did I do? Grabber three potatoes, chopped them into chips, tossed them in the air fryer with a tablespoon of olive oil. Whist they were going, I chopped up some cabbage, red pepper and some cauliflower. I put them in the slow cooker (£15 Argos) and added some Lidl broth mix (dried peas, lentils and barley). I then added a coarsely chopped onion and some garlic, some dried herbs and a tin of chopped tomatoes. Then I gave my chips a shake. I then washed the chopping board, weighed out 250g wholemeal, 250 white flour, 1 teaspoon of yeast, a teaspoon of salt and 300ml of water into the bread machine. I then set the size to medium, crust to dark and hit the start button. I then gave my chips another shake. Then I made myself a cup of tea and gave the kitchen a bit of a wipe down. I like to have the kitchen spotless. I got the salt and vinegar out, with my Poundland bowl, emptied my chips out, slathered them in vinegar with some salt. Then I perched myself in front of TH-cam to read your 'too busy comment' and watch whatever whilst I dined on my luxurious chips. I then reached over to the fruit bowl to eat some easy peelers. Since I have four hours until my bread and stew(?) is ready, I decided to work on a few things, to see what I can do before the bread is ready. Already the house is filling up with really good cooking smells and it has not even kicked into bakery smells, yet. I would say I am perfectly relaxed and it feels good to know I have some real food to look forward to. I might pop some rice in the steamer with some eggs to hardboil, to have that with my stew rather than just heavily buttered fresh bread and stew. I have got options, plus, despite doing a vicious night shift, I have got plenty of energy from my lush chips. Either way, I have an all-I-can-eat mountain of food that won't make me fat coming along, and that puts me in a Christmas Day vibe, just having the wellbeing benefits of knowing that good food is on its way. Am I cooking? Not really. Is there tonnes of washing up to do? Nope, there isn't any. I think I spent £2.50 but let's say it was £3 including electricity. That is for mountains of food that my body needs, and, because it has no sugar, I won't be putting on any weight today. I have got the energy to not need to pretend to be too busy for anyone or anything. Do I need any junk food? I could have pretended to live a busy life and got through my post night shift tiredness by buying two cans of Red Bull at £1.45 each. Yeah, £3 for eight teaspoons of sugar. What a con. For the same money I have heaps of the most real food in town and definitely the best bread in town. I spent twenty minutes faffing in the kitchen and I was too tired for cooking, so I just improvised with whatever I had, utterly minimal effort. But I gotta go through to the kitchen right now because it smells that good and I need to get a proper sniff! I promise you that, with your charm, if you did real food content - say just what I did today - you would get the YT views and glowing comments. I define cooking as putting the oven on, and I am just putting things in small appliances and hitting the start buttons. Everything I got coming is laced with vitamins and fibre, and, that means my gut health and my mental health will be superb. Nothing will be able to bring me down as I cope with anything including night shifts since my body is working on all four cylinders. All my food is unbranded and none of it has any health claims. A cabbage is just what it is and does not pretend. All my food be like that. Meanwhile you got all this branded stuff with 'health' claims - because it isn't. You are getting ripped off whether buying the brands or the basics ranges. What you want is real food and no cooking. Small appliances rule, and I think you could make a thing of it on YT by going ultra frugal, ultra healthy and showing people how easy it can be done. I got all my lush food sorted in less time than it takes to watch a YT video. Twenty minutes less screen time, if that. What is not to like? DO IT!!!

      Nope. We have spoilt brats who know what they like 😂 the lady that had them before us gave them a certain kind of food and we’ve tried on many occasions to try new things but they just won’t eat it or they’ll be sick. It’s very frustrating because it’s quite expensive but atleast it’s good for them

    Ended up watching it rofl, our food shopping is cheap as all we eat is veggies, I eat fruit, my mum eats bread, I eat yogurt and kefir, we both eat meat, I buy Vita Brits or regular Weet Bix sometimes, it’s not very good for me so I don’t eat it often, gives me that glutened swollen eye feeling and I seem to get more pityriasis spots from it. I do have a medium allergy to wheat though, so I should probably stay away as often as I can. My mum eats deli ham and ricotta cheese, I eat a certain bacon brand only, tried another one one time had to sip on Telfast throughout the day as the smoke used was really strong and I had massive histamine problems. I have histamine intolerance and from my symptoms towards food likely mast cell issues too. Have issues with smells too nowadays. So I mean based on what we buy how much can you really spend? Rice and pasta and pasta sauce from time to time as we eat mostly the same things and it gets boring. We drink only water, mum can have more things but she said she sleeps better without those, me I react badly to even a piece of freeze dried coffee in a tall glass of water, even a smidgen makes me react. Tea I stopped because it was giving me bad acid and I can’t have straight milk as I react to it, makes me very itchy. Can’t have sugar at all, glucose intolerance. My foods need to be the lowest fat possible most days and I can’t have regular cheese cause it gives me next day constipation and I’m slow to empty out so the pain goes on and on for days or even weeks until it finally clears out. So yeah the short version of our foods, meat, veggies, rice, pasta, pasta sauce, sauce made from Polish stock cubes only, deli ham, ricotta, bread, some fruit, yogurts and a kefir, cereal rarely, water nothing else, Laughing Cow cheese cubes 56% reduced fat version, bacon. I sometimes do snacks like avocado oil chips or brown rice chips, no yeast extract or sugar or any similar things, just the main ingredient, oil and salt. But these always cause me constipation after a few days of eating them, so I’m at the stage where I’m just going to stop buying them as it’s ridiculous. I was always such a foodie, so I get massive cravings if I’m honest, especially for like chocolate, Nutella, peanut butter, ice cream and pizza, but yeah can’t eat any of those anymore, so the cravings end up leading me to getting really angry and frustrated with myself and crying in the end. I suppose I should be happy to some degree that at least I got around 30 years out of my original diet, but to have this diet at 34 is too young in my opinion, I want to enjoy my food, scarcely do nowadays.

      Oh, this sounds awful 😩 I’m so sorry you’re so limited! I can only imagine how frustrating it must be. I mean I can relate with not being able to eat some foods that I loved. I can’t eat one of my all time favourites tomato soup or any smoothie because my stomach will bloat and I’ll feel sick and veg bad reflux. Acid things in general aren’t great for me but it’s nothing compared to what you have to deal with! 😞
