Imaginary Peaks
มุมมอง 6402 ปีที่แล้ว
What is it like to spend a year imagining yourself riding a set of peaks you only have a couple distant photos of? Will it be anything like you dreamed?Brian Peters, Jess A., George Halcom, and Sam Thackeray set off to explore a zone that has occupied their collective imagination. Part of the allure is the puzzle. What's the snowpack like? Is there any powder left out there? How do we even get t...

The Frank Church Experience
มุมมอง 3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In the Spring of 2021, Brian Peters, Jess Asmussen, and Sam Thackeray set off to traverse the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Covering a large part of Central Idaho, the Frank Church totals 2.3 Million Acres. As the largest wilderness area in the lower 48, the Frank Church is the definition of remote, and it’s becoming more so. The trio’s plan is to snowboard and ski from East to We...

April refresh! A few inches over night made for some not quite bottomless, but none the less, soft turns. Another beautiful day in the alpine!

After hiking for 8 miles, traversing ridges, summiting near 10,000 foot peaks, spending nights in yurts and cabins, getting shut down because of wind and sketchy avalanche conditions this is what we came away with. Great trip! -The Hourglass, Aneroid, OR

Am happy and proud to say that Sam is my nephew...and I know that beyond the imaginary, he is wishing he could be here, at home, right now, where we received about 3" of fresh last night!! Ha! Great work Sam and Friends. Keep the good stuff coming!!

Madness. The history of the old timers who lived up at Cold Springs and down in Big Creek is in insane in the winter. Especially those near Cold Springs and Chamberlain.

It’s totally crazy, I’d love to read more of their accounts. It’s wild to see some of the old infrastructure that was built by miners and homesteaders 100 years ago. It’s also interesting to think about how a place so seemingly vast and uninhabited had many people living and traveling through it. The resourcefulness and hardyness is impressive.

Plug into the Frank. Life changer, I'm sure. Joy and misery in a place like that for so many sunsets and sunrises must have delivered some profound messages and lessons. Thanks for sharing!

Well said. It’s certainly a place that forces you to confront yourself, there’s no where to hide from your mind and you also can’t hide from the unforgiving nature of the place.

    • @samthackeray

I ran from Bradford Bridge to Slickrock. The notable rapids were Snaggletooth, Island Rapid, and The wall. It's a pretty mellow run, with some incredible scenery. Highly recommend it!

Thanks for the feed back. We try to counterbalance the weight of the camera and put it on a movable arm, which helps it stay relatively still. There are several shots that I wish were much more stable though. Improvements for next year!
