Sydney Kyte & His Band - “Liebestraum” (1938)
The second in my series of broadcast excerpts from the Syd kyte band. Though Sydney kytes band barely recorded during this period, there are a few other nice versions of this classic that were revised for the dance bands of the day.
Sydney Kyte & His Band - “Subway” (1938)
From a 1938 BBC broadcast which Chas Cox kindly allowed me to take a few excerpts from. At the time this was the first broadcast performance of this song to British listeners in a series after a few that I will be uploading. Though unfortunately Sydney Kyte never took any of these to the studio for commercial recordings!
Ambrose & His Orchestra with Vera Lynn - “Goodnight Children Everywhere” (1940)
From earlier in Lynn’s career when she was still with Bert Ambrose’s orchestra. Where, incidentally she met her husband, a clarinetist with the band.
Carroll Gibbons & the Savoy Hotel Orpheans - “On the Air” (1940)
The famous signature tune of pianist and bandleader Carroll Gibbons, written by Gibbons himself and recorded several times in the 1930’s by him and the orchestra he led, the resident band of the famous savoy hotel in London. In this instance it was re recorded in the “Glenn miller” style in order to keep up with the fast changing popular music scene in the early 1940s.
Jack Harris & His Orchestra Recordings (1939)

1 Hour of British Dance band Music From the 1920’s & 1930’s

All from my own collection of 78rpm gramophone records. I haven't got as many records from the late 20's - early 30's period that's why you hear the same bands several times in this one! Also apologies for the sound quality of some. 0:00 - Manhattan Melodymakers (Harry Bidgood's band) - Should I - 1930 3:31 - Allan Selby & His Band - You Were Meant For Me - 1929 6:50 - Jay Wilbur & His Orchestr...
Billy Cotton & His Band - There’ll Always Be an England (1940)
A famous English patriotic song recorded at the outbreak of the second world war by a number of bands and singers, in this recording it is sung by Alan Breeze. I thought it would be an appropriate upload for St. George’s day!
Geraldo & His Sweet Music “Geraldo Nights” No.3 (1934)
A series of medleys of popular songs that Geraldo’s Orchestra often played on the air. About the Bandleader: Gerald Bright (otherwise known by his stage name of “Geraldo”) was an English pianist and bandleader who in his early career specialised in tangos and south American style music after touring South America, this also influenced his stage name which he adopted in 1930. He first became fam...

1 Hour of 1930’s British Dance Band Music

A compilation from my own collection of original 78RPM records. This is a first for me so forgive me for the shoddy editing and sound quality, I've yet to learn how to digitally restore them! Despite the video quality there's some rare gems in there not available to hear on the internet elsewhere so well worth a listen! 0:00 - Teddy Joyce & His Dance Music - New Moon (1934) 3:11 - Carroll Gibbo...

My mom was born and raised in Philadelphia (1928-2007), but when I played a CD of British dance band music for her, she exclaimed, "This is music I used to hear on your grandma's old Philco when I was little!" She hummed along with a few tunes.

Although your comment is now a year old... It is George Hyde Pownall and it's a picture of 1910. It's relatively small, only 15 by 24 centimeters. He made several depictions of Piccadilly Circus.
