John Simm as Caligula

John Simm stole the show in 2004's Imperium: Nerone, a questionable take on the Roman emperor. Simm's Caligula is the precursor to his unique take on Doctor Who's Master. All three of Simm's scenes are presented here.

What is the name of this movie??? I don't think I've seen this actor before but I like him
Click on "more" above for the title. John Simm is a highly praised British actor. Check him out on IMDb.
Breakfast wasn't a thing.
I hate it when Hollywood distorts history. The real events are so much more interesting on their own merits. Caligula was not murdered in the palace, he was ambushed inside the tunnel leading from the palace to his baths. He was alone and the soldiers were said to have eaten his flesh afterwards.
So much wrong with this, from a historical perspective. The armor is all wrong, but what is glaringly inaccurate is that Aggripina, or anyone, would address him as Caligula. To call him that would've been considered an insult. His proper name that he would've been addressed is Gaius Germanicus or Caesar. Anything else would result in that person being severely punished or death.
People in power get sick in their head do sickening things and lose their minds.
Lame
Our happy president donald trump make america grate, and our gop senators

🏆 The 1979 uncut 156 min version is still THE MOST REAL PORTRAIT of a demented perverse emperor... these "sanitized rewrites" dont make the maniac seem so bad
This is the same woman who later married Claudius and had him poisoned.
One of the senators was also on Star Trek, as a Romulan.
And a Master, like John Simm.
I wish filmakers would learn that Rome was brightly painted and not at all bare white. The Rome buildings here look ridiculous.
Most of what was said about Caligula during his reign as Emperor were made up stories. The horse thing never happened.🐴
Seriously, who wouldn't have kept the boy?
What version is this?
He reminds me of someone running for office now….hmmmmm🤔
Their cowering infrastructure of him like a republican to trump, discusting .
We all love a walnut dash don't we Sam Tyler
America has Orange Caligula
I’m amazed the senate took so long to get rid of the maniac.
I like the romantic version John Simm displays but Malcolm McDowell is irreplaceable. The 1979 version is sick and traumatic.
John Hurt was pretty good too,I Claudius.
And hairy hair raising amounts of hair everywhere. Malcolm McDowells clear crazy eyes
@@nicoledemari2154 McDowells was just epic with that vile evil crazy presentation... it provoked fear just watching
Some of those people play sick and demented WAY to easy as actors. In real life he wasn't the only sick puppy that sat on the throne of Rome sadly these morons were the pattern that Hitler followed and many others as we well know now days just look at our political climate and who's in charge.
It's called acting. smh

Questo essere schifoso ha fatto la fine che meritava 🤮
This was filmed when filmmakers knew how to make historical movies free of showinism of today
Showinism?
The obedience of Senate is the same today politicians have for Putin.
Quando Calígula levou seu cavalo para dentro do Senado, esse foi o momento em que seu assassinato foi definido.
Caliguia was violent, Nero sadistic
I thought Caligula was strangled in his bathtub by his personal trainer.
I think that was Commodus..?
Name of movie ?
Click on "more" in description.
Just remember this isn't actual history. While the character Caligula has been a handy baddie for films about ancient Rome, much of the crazy things he is alleged to have done, were embellishments and slanders by Roman historians written long after his death. The "histories" were written by ex-Senators, who Caligula didn't show proper respect to. So they had an axe to grind in writing about him. The legend that he made his horse a Senator is one. In actuality, Caligula had only remarked once, that his horse would be just as good as any Senator.
The United States is about to undergo the same history as Rome during this period. Caligula had Tiberious murdered so that he could become Emperor...even though Tiberious was failing mentally and would soon be dead Caligula didn't want to wait. After Caligula was assassinated Claudius became Emperor only to be asassinated by Aggrippina so that her son Nero could become Emperor. When Nero was assassinated by the Praetorian Guard in order to end his insane reign, the Roman Army became the authority in determining who became Emperor. Trump will be the equivilent of Claudius...the last good President before the reign of military dictatorship. There were a few good Emperors in the period ending in 476 AD but the decline of the Empire after about 300 AD was steady and led to complete destruction...so it will be with the United States!
Trumpus Maximus
Oddly Nero HATED his mother and when an elaborate attempt to kill her which involved a booby trapped barge failed he had soldiers stab her to death. Allegedly she told them to stab her womb since it had borne Nero.
Господи какой психопад и урод был у власти .
Por qué no está conectado el televisor
Imagine trying to survive with this mad man in charge.
L
The Romans were rather male-dominant when it came to the proper place for women in society. Women were in charge of their homestead and the slaves there. But outside the home, it was a man's world. Agrippina the Elder didn't appreciate such societal boundaries. And though she was related to Agustus Caesar, who seems to have admired her quite a bit, even he seems to have warned/exhorted her to 'not speak offensively.' And don't actions also speak louder than words? She involved herself in politics when it was culturally taboo. And nearly 2000 years later, women still are not on equal standing with men in the world's various societies... Though obviously some places far exceed others.
If trump wins again we will find out
Ancient Rome Homelander
The master returns.
They flushed a turd.
I can't believe that James Bentley, the kid in this scene, is now 31 years old! Time just flies.
No one would have dared called him Caligula to his face
