NEW GUITAR DAY DISASTER!! Schecter MV-6 Unboxing, Tone Test and Review
In this video, I try out the Schecter MV-6 - a guitar I had dreamed of owning all throughout 2024. It seemed like the ultimate Strat, with all the features I’d wished the Schecter Nick Johnston had...
Unfortunately, the Schecter MV-6 turned out to be a bit of a flop, and I didn't have a chance to try one in-store before buying. Dodgy fret overtones, a deeply scratched pickguard, a lifeless neck pickup, and a ‘baseball bat’ of a neck were the main issues. Upon closer inspection, it started to look like a used guitar, with no 'love' put into making or caring for the instrument. The only positive out of this situation is that it made me appreciate the Schecter Nick Johnston even more!
Ultimately, I returned the Schecter MV-6 and swapped it for something else - stay tuned to see what I got instead!
Best,
Sean

In this video I review my Schecter Nick Johnston guitar after two years of owning the instrument. This video is obviously not sponsored and so all thoughts are my own (probably goes without saying!). I honestly don't know what anyone would need from a 'strat' style guitar other than this - let me know your thoughts in the comments. Best! Sean #schecterguitars #nickjohnston #schecternickjohnston

Digital vs Tube Amps: Can You Actually Hear the Difference?
มุมมอง 463ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I present two different mixes - one using a tube amp and the other a digital amp sim on two panned DI guitar takes. I thought this would make for an interesting debate - since we guitarists always claim to be able to hear the natural differences between digital and analogue; however, how much noticeable is it really within the context of a mix? The mixes are identical as well as t...
Where does the PRS MT15 stand in 2023? | An Honest Review, Demonstration and Mix Test

In this video I review and demonstrate the PRS MT15 tube amplifier head in 2023 - giving a fresh perspective on the product. I thought this review would be insightful since many competitive amplifiers, amp pedals, preamps and digital modellers have been released since then. How does the PRS MT15 hold up against the new competition? Let's find out! In this video, I also do a comparison tone test...

I bought one and had to send it back due to the humbucker being very loose and too many high frets. I have to say the rest of the guitar was built very well and I was surprised by the good cut of the nut and the tuning. I might pick up another one and get it pleked. How loose is the humbucker on urs? I'd imagine it moves but mine moved like crazy. Fantastic review btw.
Where did you find ATs fav settings?
❤
Appreciate a fully honest review! We need more of these, so thank you for doing it and potentially saving a bunch of us the bs of going through getting the guitar and then returning it. Hope the NJ is still treating you well!
Great review/demo.
Year long reviews are great! Thank you. Made me buy one today.
I just bought a brand new one for $300 off ebay!!!!! Can't wait to get it!!!!!!
My American Fender Pro ll sits there next to my NJ wishing I would pick it up, that's how good this guitar is. One of the few guitars I didn't have to break out my tools to level the frets or swap out anything. Spec wise a Fender doesn't come close and as far as a big branded strats are concerned, I don't see how you can do better than this. Now if you want a great mod platform for a strat, I would look at the cheapest model EART, I have two that are also way better than my Fender and again the specs are way better. Great review dude!
By far my favorite solo.
Im confused... is the Rabbea plugin included with Cory Wong plugin?
Damn
I bought a Schecter PT from their Diamond Series. I hated it. The neck was toothpick thin. I sold it and spent the extra money for the Schecter USA Custom PT same model. It's the best guitar I ever played. Neck fills the hand nicely. Sets up easy. Great fret work. I have tried that exact guitar you just got in a shop, and I found it to be a steal for the price, although I didn't have the money at the time. I guess it's hit or miss with the overseas Diamond Series. The USA Custom stuff is a home run every time. I recommend them to everyone. BTW, the Morning Glory is a staple on my board. 👍
Thank you for the detailed review and sharing your favorite settings. How was the factory setup, does the bass require comprehensive setup process or is it just ready to play out of the box?
Which lunchbox amps would you prefer over the MT15? Are there any that you think are better pound for pound?
Their quality has tanked. I've seen so many of these bad reviews of their guitars lately
I didn’t know they weren’t popular 😂. Maybe it’s because people are scared with setup? They’re easy to set up 😏. Just buy one 😂
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The pedal is not supposed to have overdrive.. the drive knob is to give an effect of a clean amp being slightly driven to clipping... anyone with Fender Twin or Deluxe experience would know that those amps do not overdrive even when cranked.. they just get fizzy... the pedal is perfect in regard to a real Blackface amp... many things that you have stated in your video show that you are ignorant in regard to the characteristics of a real Fender Blackface. I have been playing on vintage amps for my entire life, and what you claim could not be further from the truth..
his recent release is actually insane
Thanks for a great video! I'm thinking getting getting one of these, but I immediately got nervous when you mentioned the weird ringing frequency on the E string. I've had a similar problem with a previous bass, and it was extremely irritating. (You couldn't just hear it in the room, but on recordings as well!) So, my question is: Did you work out what was causing this unpleasant resonance, and did you manage to get rid of it? I'd love to know, because the bass sounds great otherwise and I'm just about to pull the trigger...
No problem! If my memory serves me correctly I did manage to fix it when replacing the E string; however, I say from 'memory' because the bass has been in self-storage for over a year and I haven't had chance to play it since.
I watched your other video and agreed wholeheartedly that the Nick Johnston guitar (which I also have just the cheaper Indonesian version) could use a better access on upper frets and 24 frets. I had the exact same issue as you with upper access and it was super annoying. So glad that the algo recommended this video, had no idea about this model. Imma check it out ASAP!
I have to admit I have completely changed my mind since the Nick Johnston reviews I made. I realise now that the Nick Johnston absolutely should only be 22 frets. If it had 24 frets the neck pickup tone would suffer a lot, and that tone is one of my favourite things about the guitar. I would definitely prefer an AANJ on the Schecter Nick Johnston, but the neck heel doesn't bother me too much. I have a new found appreciation for the Schecter Nick Johnston after trying the Schecter MV-6.
@@SeanBennettGuitar Makes sense!
I am right now waiting for UPS to drop off a RGR420EXFM but I only want the neck. I want to build a 540PⅡ. If you modify it, It would be for fun. It would be too expensive to modify it. Better sell it and buy a better one.
Nice! Sounds like a great project with that unique body shape. Yes that's what I've ended up deciding on - better to sell it. The lo pro or edge pro bridges are close to £300 alone when bought separately these days, madness! Better to just buy a better guitar with the lo pro or edge pro already installed. Looks like a good excuse to buy another RG prestige rather than modify this 🤩
nice guitar
Thanks for watching 😊
Does it stay in tune after using whammy bar? Cool video
Yes it stays in tune pretty well. Thanks!
I'm curious if you got a lemon here build quality wise. I got the purple MV-6 with the same Wenge neck about a year ago, and I have zero fret or neck issues. It's honestly my favorite guitar to play in my collection from a playability perspective. The neck is significantly slimmer than my Fender strats, and feels similar to my Schecter C-1 in slimness. It only feels like a bat after I've played my Ibanez RG wizard neck. I 100% agree that being purely on the neck pickup is the weakest part of the guitar, but positions 3 and 4 where it's added to the strong bridge pups it adds a lot of warmth. If you're going for a pure neck tone, this definitely isn't the guitar I'd go to though.
My theory is that they sent me a lemon that had been returned a couple of times already back to Schecter. It explains the imperfections and the scratch marks all over the scratch plate. I can only guess, but the few that are left in stock are probably the leftovers since they're getting discontinued. Congrats on the purple MV-6! That's the one I really wanted rather than the white. To be fair the neck on my Schecter Nick Johnston is pretty thin and flat, which is probably why the neck on the MV-6 felt like a baseball bat in comparison. I'm used to living on the neck pickup on the NJ, so that's probably why this was the dealbreaker for me with the MV-6. I didn't think the tone difference would be quite that dramatic with 24 frets.
Random 3 finger masterBaterY
Eatin good.
You just jealous
You just jealous and you can't play that good either
I’m sick of hearing about 24 frets they ruin the tone of the neck pickup and make it sound completely screwed up. Leo and co knew what they were doing.
I just learnt that the hard way after buying the Schecter MV-6. I knew 24 frets impacted tone on the neck pickup, but I didn't expect it to be quite as drastic as I experienced.
I think most people call the neck pickup "position 5", and the next click (neck and mid) "position 4"
That’s true
Love It! Em7 arpeggio and G7M with licks, right? 🇧🇷🎸
Correct!
I really wanted an MV-6 but the 24 frets where the only deal killer for me, I'm accustomed to playing starts so middle pickups are not an issue for me, I've been making do with my heavily modified Highway 1 Strat since 2006, but I've ordered a guitar just like this one based on favorable reviews and the need for another strat type for my arsenal. I hope it's a keeper.
This is a workhorse that never gets boring to play. I’m inspired by the tones I get from it all the time. Congrats on the new guitar.
Twang!!
Turned sub focus into pendulum
So true now I think about it! 🤣
UADs amp simulations sound absolute unnatural. The sound is so clear, digital and with a super modern attak. it has absolute nothing to do with the real amp. i get a better tone of any other amp simulation like amplitube guitar rig or th-u, ... I am a guitar player and mixing engineer. some moth ago i mixed a concert where the guitar player used a UAD Pedal. When mixing my first thought was that he has no guitar speaker and was played line to the console. but this is the sound of these things. ?!?
Interesting video, thank you! I ordered a MV-6 from Andertons. First one I got was a dud. Scratched and not put together well at all. Didnt feel right. Same kind of issues as yourself. Asked Andertons for another one and the next one I got was perfect!! Still own it 12 months later and I live on the neck pickup 😂. Probably built in small numbers and more bad ones than good ones. Hit and miss. Hope I've got the unicorn MV6 and it ends up being incredibly rare and expensive.😮😮
Wow, it looks like quality control on these MV-6 guitars ended up pretty inconsistent, which is strange because my Schecter Nick Johnston was perfect from the start. Congrats on getting a good one! I got mine from Andertons too but I ended up swapping it for a different guitar entirely. Let's hope they do go up in value! I'm still gutted that I didn't like the MV-6 as much as I really, really wanted to. Conceptually it was perfect.
It’s hit OR miss not AND. AND indicates that it was both a hit and also a miss which a contradiction.
All you fledgling players, -yes YOU TOO! Listen to this wise man! These are goood tips!!👍
Thanks!
I’ve had virtual instruments that include the noise from the original instrument. I find it annoying too. But usually you can turn it off if you want. They should give you a way to turn that off.
I bought a NJ SSS model but replaced the pickguard to HSS and pickups to Andy Timmons set and the bridge to VegaTrem. I also installed a Seymour Duncan Hyperswitch. I replace the string tree with a Graphtec bone one. I like the neck profile and the body on this
Sounds great! What are the Andy Timmons pickup set like?
@@SeanBennettGuitar They are great with the right amplifier. As soon as I designed a new tone using mesa trans on quad cortex, they flowered. They sound real good with my (real) Mesa Boogie Mark V too.
Awesome! I need to try some out someday as a fan of Andy Timmons.
Does the vega trem offer equal sustain to the stock bridge at least? I have been eyeing one since they came out.
@@alejandroaguilar4693 I didn't have time to compare the two but Vega block is very thin.
I just recieved my AIO TC1 Dark Walnut, neck through Telecaster, this is one of the best guitars I have ever played, it was set up to my specs and is perfect, it doesn't have 24 frets but I wouldn't use anything over 22 anyhow, I cant find anything wrong with it, I do prefer brass saddles on my Teles though. I am so impressed I am thinking of getting one of their Strat models with a neck through, not having any type of neck block is just amazingly comfortable!
Just checked it out - looks great! Love the inlays and natural wood finish. Congrats on the purchase!
finally, some honesty on youtube. lovely looking guitar though!
I was so disappointed that I didn't like it - really had my mind set on this guitar before I bought it. Unfortunately I was using other TH-cam reviews as a basis for buying it. Thanks for commenting!
@@SeanBennettGuitar well yeah, thats literally the goal of youtube. I am in retail so i know the game. TH-camrs will never say the truth, most of the time - they arent even allowed to, and when they are allowed to, they still dont in fear of not being able to review again.
Yeah, it's sad but true. It seems like sponsored videos often lead reviewers to omit information, or they may intentionally hold back on sharing much of their opinion. As you said, the fear of falling 'out of favor' with a company for being completely honest must weigh on the minds of many TH-camrs. I also suspect that some companies might be giving reviewers the best specimens of a particular product intentionally.
I always enjoy to see you here my friend. Always learning
Thank you!
dude i think that play is a lil bit fake, if he says it was 2 guitars yea maybe it is possible sound like that, i think he is over edited on the track and speed, its just my opinion
When you think "you got it", you dont... its cool thought.. lol..
On my bass I run a JptrFX Jive into the Morning Glory for simply the best lower to mid gain tones I’ve ever heard! No need for any other dirt pedals.
Amazing! Interesting to hear bass players use it also.
I have the SSS version of that guitar in black. Absolutely amazing!! In my opinion the best guitar by far for under a grand!! 🤘🏻
It really is a great guitar and absolutely worth the price.
The adaptation of the riff in the last minute is soooo good 😭🔥4:34 that lick…
Drawing the parallels between the 1920’s and the current day political circus that is Trump and MAGA is brilliant!! 🤘🏼👻
This video sold me. I got the blue tidepool jazzmaster one
Congrats!
Hey! Could someone tell me how to adjust the action in this guitar. I find the strings too separated from the fretboard for my taste
Check that the neck is relatively straight first to ensure it’s not a truss rod adjustment that’s needed. Then take a hex key and turn the two hex key inserts on each saddle to lower the strings closer to the fretboard. If the saddles get too low there will be fretbuzz, so try to find a happy medium.
