    HI, GREAT video, what did you do with your NexGen water pump that was mounted ? Did you keep it as is with the impeller installed and it running off the fan belt ? while using your new water pump ? Thanks,

    any updates? how many hours do you have on this setup? thanks for the video!

      About 1600 hours. No issues with the March cooling arrangement. The heat exchanger developed an unassociated leak and needed a little welding ($50), but beyond that, nothing unusual. I do suggest using silicone gasket material on the old impeller housing cover after the impeller is removed. If it is not sealed, you'll get an annoying oil leak.

    I had the NextGen 5.5KW and it worked well but I did have issues where it did not generate 120vac when the capacitor failed and had to be replaced. In that circumstance your 120v pump would not run even though the generator (diesel) would run ... Just and FYI to have that situation verified on your model assuming it may be the same as the one I had. Good luck .... Dan

      Your "capacitor issue" is familiar. They tend to overheat and fail if a proper exhaust fan is not in place. The overheat shut-down sensor will not prevent the issue so always carry a spare. BTW; in my case, the capacitor fail prevented the generator diesel from starting so no compounding problem was had.

      Just happened upon this video and these comments…having the same no voltage out, problem. Terrible access on the boat, where is the capacitor? (Not shown in the manual?)

    • @MagnusBlunderbust
      @MagnusBlunderbust 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VapinPiper The capacitor is the 3" silver cylinder shape you'll see at the front and very low on the face of the engine. Look for it down near the motor mounts.

    Nice setup! I am going to convert my 6.5 Onan to a A/c pump. I have a couple of questions-What model pump did you use and where did you get the vacuum breaker?

    Just Recently had a FATALITY in Chickasaw Al. Guy seen a UTUBE Video how Home made Dive Gear. Had a hose hooked to second stage. Piece of Chain for Weight belt. Small Air Compressor. He as I understand had NO DIVING EXPERIENCE. his girlfriend in the boat witness him in 40 ft water surfaced 2-3 times then surfaces Cry Help & Disapears. ! I didn't Dive Looking for him. But did see the Gear. DON'T TRY THIS IF YOU ARE NOT EXPERIENCED DIVER. & Know Equipment is SAFE...

    1/Over dubbing2/kinked hoses don't give good air flow and don't last long 3/ Compressor is very noisey, other than that it was good fundamental crap, did this guy get paid?

    Sam who am - GREAT fricking idea! My Onan mechanical pump is nothing but trouble. This way I eliminate many of my genny cooling problems - belts, seals, impossible location, priming - not to mention the outrageous cost of obsolete parts. My one concern is what happens to the electric pump while the motor is warming up and the thermostat is still closed? Does that stress the motor or is there a demand switch involved? Many thanks.

      March pumps can handle it. I don't see a problem. They are magnetic drive pumps and require a below the waterline install. If your raw water filter gets packed up, your temp shut off will shut down the generator which will kill the ac power to the pump. I've had this happen many times and there's never a problem with the pump. Clean out the filter and you're back in business.

    Sam what happens if we are making water and the tank is filling up with more and more water, does the system back up?

    • @MVSKOOKUM1
      @MVSKOOKUM1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like if we over fill the water tank by accident can do this do any damage to the watermaker?

    • @MagnusBlunderbust
      @MagnusBlunderbust 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be like over-filling your water tank from a dockside water supply. You would see water flowing out of the water tank's vent hose. The flow rate would be much slower however.

    Be very careful with teh outlet hose prior to the tee. There in no strain relief and the hose can easily kink or rupture at that point. may need to get a spring style strain relief. Better safe than sorry...be safe out there.

    Hi Sailor Sam, I'm installing a March in the same way you did for my Onan MDKBH generator. Did you simply remove the impeller from the generator as I intend, or do as th-cam.com/video/BibAbvMeGU8/w-d-xo.html ? My access is horrible and I cannot do as he did. I intend to just remove the impeller and refit the belt driven water pump.

    This genset should be designed with it's own internal heat exchanger 1 pipe in 1 pipe out. Engine cooling fluid sealed in the exchanger tubes very simple.

    How often does your unit cycle on and off while in use. Or will it run continuously ?

    • @sailorsam7069
      @sailorsam7069 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are working very hard, such as scraping serious barnacle growth, you'll find it cycles fairly often - perhaps every couple minutes, otherwise, much less.
