Get a Rod Sutphin transmission tune and get a flex fuel addon for MHD and call it done.
@j1ndz not sure if i want to go on ethanol.. maybe after the winter ill give it a try
@@DrivnByBrian I recently added it to mine and wish I had done it sooner. Huge power gain and boost to the top end running E50. I run pump most of the time, but it's nice to have that additional power whenever you gain access to E. Super easy install too. Definitely go with the Rod Sutphin tune though. I paid for XHP and I couldn't get it to feel right with any of their maps and customizations. Paid Rod Sutphin for a custom tune and it's way better.
@j1ndz DM me on IG - def want to ask a few more questions on it. thanks dude!
It’s really looking clean man 🔥 awesome vid, super informative, kept me watching the whole vid. You should really keep this up 👌🏽
I believe his is a 2020
@ oo okay, yeah I figured it was one of the years that didn’t need it’s ecu unlocked for a ridiculous amount. I’m stuck between this and a 540i m sport due to pricing for now, his came out awesome
@@jaygarcia7807 appreciate it man! Yes mine is a 2020, where I had to do the DME unlock. Few shops in the NYC area offer the service for $200-300. Honestly I wish I considered the 540 because I do miss the sedan feeling. My concern would be how different the 540 feels to the 340, as the 3 series still retains a sportier feel due to its weight and size
You want to go stage 2 and have a police scanner but say you never put the pedal to the metal? Come on lmao
what can i say, im a pussy lmaooo
How’s the turning radius/wheel rub? Have you thought about rolling fenders out or anything needed???
No issues whatsoever. I'm now on 20x10 et+25, 275 squared. Have 10mm wheel spacers all around but it's required on the front because the fronts need a +35 offset
I have a 2025 on order in Portimaeo Blue and tan interior on order. It should be here in February. It has a gen 3 engine and I heard there were problems with the Gen 3s so I just plan to get the best warranty and go with that.
@@MG-jp5ij Factory warranty should be enough if you are buying the car brand new. Don't buy the extended warranty
Great video again my guy.
Awesome video, I’m currently in college freshman year and I drive a 2013 Lexus es right now got it last year after a car accident. Got the car with (136k miles). Love the Lexus but I’m a huge car fanatic and love bmws 😮💨. Looking at this car to be my college graduation gift (pre-dental). But might keep the Lexus love the look of the car.
Definitely a great post-grad gift for me too. i'd say rock the lexus until you finish dental school (you probably wouldn't have time to enjoy a new car anyway haha), and then the post-dental gift would be even crazierrr

Great video, was looking at the same model but 2018, is that to old? And just don't know about bms, is this car specially with the b58 engile reliable? Thanks
1. 2018 is the first year of the new X3, i'd avoid. 2020 is the redesign, and 2021 has the highest reliability rating in Consumer Reports. B58 has been proven to be reliable! since you are buying used, make sure to do your own pre-purchase inspection as small dealerships and private sellers skimp out on maintenance (sometimes)
@@DrivnByBrian hm ok, appreciate the response, thank you
@slickahhthing depends who you are. i would never want a first year car, its always the worst year. i also like the redesign in 2020. also consumer reports rates 2018-2019 BMW X3 as under/below average reliability, 2020 average, 2021+ above average
Dude, you should worry more about the potholes on the NYC highways than adding more power.
7 years on the road and never popped a tire.. just gotta be aware of the holes in the road lol
Me and you got the x3 m40i around the same time i jsut been lazy with posting videos but only problem i had which is my fault was one of my headlight DRL rings are dimmed but thatbecause i put it to 100% and it was very hot in NYC summer running 24/7 so here's a tip for anyone thinking of turning up the light in their headlights Don't TOUCH IT
Ay g! Do you really have to warm up the car nowadays I heard the engine oil flows MAD quick like 0w30 or 5w30. So with that in mind. Can I just start wait like 5 seconds put seatbelt on then drive gently until oil temps are up. Right?
@ouzayaza5921 im stage 2 now (high flow catted dp + tune). while you can technically start driving immediately while being gentle, there are 2 benchmarks to keep in mind. most people wait until a single engine oil cycle has completed (average of 30 seconds after starting the car) before driving - this ensures the engine is properly lubricated before any sort of driving. the second benchmark is waiting until the RPMs have dropped below 1,000. this indicates the engine and downpipe has properly warmed up. I wait for this, which usually takes 3-4 minutes
Hey, thx for the vids. I just bought a 2020 x3 m40i. Was just wondering what you think of the stock sound system.
@@ambassadoroftruth99 stock sound system could definitely use some improvement. some popular upgrades are with bimmerlink's alpha one: 1) upgrading just the amplifier, or 2) upgrading the entire sound system (amplifier + speakers)
It's femto but good video man!
@@IPhonesCrash my bad gang
@DrivnByBrian still an informative video man. Good job
I really enjoyed the topic as it was something I was actually thinking about. I often have 5 people in the car, I have the same exact car as you, with 21's and would like to lower it but have some concerns that either you covered in your video or answered below. One question that wasnt answered is how much I should lower mine expecially since I have the wife and 3 kids in the back fairly often and live in rural areas with some dirt roads. Are H and R springs adjustable or do the come in a set height? Just saw your link for what you used but they are out of stock. Also do you have spacers or have you considered them ? Thanks again and best of luck on your content. Keep it up !
@VazquezFamily09 Thanks Willie, appreciate it! The H&R springs are a set adjustment, 1.5 inches in the front and 1 inch in the back - nothing too big but noticeable for car guys. I'd personally stay away from coilovers (which allows you to adjust your ride height) because 1. they are expensive, 2. its an SUV - i personally don't like slammed SUVs. With H&R springs, i've never had to slow down on a bump or be worried about scrapping, even driving in rural roads! I still have about 5 inches of clearance, i plan on buying a lip and diffuser down the line so ill have to be more careful then. I just bought new wheels 20x10, 275/40/20, and since they are a wider setup i did have to buy wheel spacers. I was hesistant at first, but after doing some research and speaking with my mechanic - as long as they are 1. hubcentric, 2. fits your wheel set up (ex/ 5x112) and not just a general spacer that fits all cars, you should be fine! I am currently running 10mm all around
This car was the worst car to lower ever !
Alignment guy said the same thing lol. keep in mind i had a 1-1.5 inch drop all around. Here's all the bad things that have come from it: - improved handling, comfort, and ride quality - smaller wheel gap, looks better - scraped on 0 curbs, bumps, ramps, etc
I just lowered mine, but for some reason, the front is a little bumpy. I'm not too sure that maybe the shock absorbers are actually bad
@@Gh0stM2 oh really - are you noticing it on both sides, or one? You might have to check the suspension top hat. if you don't tighten them evenly, one strut may be extremely stiff (loud and bumpy) while the others are closer to stock (quiet and soft). This is definitely true on the rear struts, as i mistakenly left a top hat lose. every time i hit a bump it sounded like something fell off the car. Fixed it by tightening it down!
@@DrivnByBrianthat makes sense because I have a loud sound on the passenger front side so I'm thinking you might be right that maybe the top hats are actually loose but I'm pretty sure I tightened them unless they loosened up after the fact I'm not too sure I'll check them and then if not I'll put it on the lift to figure out maybe the poorly stupid design spindle is loose
@@DrivnByBrianit took me all of 1 hour max to lower my M2 like quick literally the most easiest car to lower and then this one took me almost 8 hours
What about alignment? Did you have to install adjustable links?
Yes to alignment. Any time you touch the suspension you need an alignment. No adjustable links. It was pretty straightforward, literally just swapped the springs and drove carefully until alignment
@@DrivnByBrianthank you!!!!! Looks excellent
“Fresh cake 👉”
You shouldnt need dme unlock if the car was produced before june 2020
I got this confused too. I originally thought the bench unlock happens with I flash with MHD. A DME unlock is ALWAYS needed. There are 2 methods: 1) bench unlock, and 2) FENTMO unlock. Bench can be done at shops like BMCoding for $300. FENTMO requires you to ship it to Europe and costs a lot more. After you unlock the DME, you can tune the car via BM3 or MHD. Its a 2 step process!
@@DrivnByBrian ah good to know. I picked up a 2020 in april coming from a 2014 accord and its been a rocket

Great for my needs. The only issues I had were addressed in the video! Super smooth and comfortable ride, but I miss the sedan sometimes
@DrivnByBrian yeah true that. Sedans handle much nicer 👌 of coures a bmw over my hyundai sonata 😆 I just like the room and Comfort the seats are very firm with x3 and most bmw long rides like 3 hours plus Does your back start hurting? What are the seats are comfortable throughout the whole trip? I sat in a few older X5 models seats felt hard
@@paulrakis its a love hate relationship. i like that it is more sporty, so i don't mind the harder seats and side pieces to hold me in place. on longer road trips it does get hard at times. i have to slouch a little haha
Thank you so much for posting this! I’m on the fence on buying a 2024 bmw x3 m40i. I want to take advantage buying it now because the 2025 interior. The new interior looks cheap, every thing digital and big wavy screen. I love the classic look of your car all the way to the 2024. Do you think it’s worth buying new and get a good deal with warranty or get used because the value drops down fast over time? I plan on keeping it for long time and I stay on top of maintenance. Just want to hear your recommendations? Thank you again for posting and representing NY! Stay safe bro.
Appreciate it! Love the long comment, haha. Feel free to shoot out any more questions: 1. Agreed 2025 looks weird with all the screens and new design. We'll have to see if the BMW fanboys will fall to liking it (similar to the nostril M3/M4s). Also being a first year model, I wouldn't recommend it for any manufacturer 2. If you want to run the car into the ground, buying used and staying on top of maintenance is the better choice. Financially speaking, you save 20k from buying a off-lease car. Putting that 20k towards maintenance will be cheaper than buying brand new AND THEN doing maintenance. If you are worried about prior ownership, take your time in searching. I looked for 8 months across the X3 M40 and M340. Scan pictures for window sticker/options and Carfax for oil changes. Find ones with detailed services from BMW. Being from NY, look in the southern states - usually more highway mileage, an older population (thus better maintenance and doesn't drive as hard), and less salt on the roads. IF you got deep pockets, buy a new one! At the end of the day, it's your money haha
@@DrivnByBrian thank you so much for your response. I will definitely take your advise.
Also, do these have remote start?
i think you can "purchase" it through an annual subscription in the bmw app
Not sure where you live but I experience winter here with all year potholes. How low is the car with the lowering springs? Any bottoming out or going slow?
im in NYC - we have some bad potholes, and a few inches of snow every year. from stock ride height, the car drops 1-2inches. It still has plenty of clearance, i've never needed to slow down for a bump or slope. only thing i would worry about is driving with 21in wheels in the winter
Would you go with a 2021 fully loaded for 10k less $$ or an post LCI update 2022+ model with auto start, larger infotainment screen etc?
is the 2022 also fully loaded? 2021 is the last year of the B58TU w/o the mild hybrid. By car industry standards, it's going to be the most refined and reliable. With 2022 out of warranty, electronics can fail, mild hybrid has shown to be weaker than the B58TU (2020+). I'd go 2021 fully loaded all day, and only take the 2022 if it is fully loaded and extended warranty
Interesting didn’t know about the mild hybrid issues. I know they removed the start/stop button and it helps with any turbo lag. But I definitely dont want to deal with electronic or hybrid battery issues either.
@@RimzH yes I would definitely look into it. Also saving 10k would be a “buffer” for any problems from the 2021
Can you do a video going over all of the other pack options too and what they include?
I been slacking.. but I'll add this to the list!
@@DrivnByBrian yeah bro please do
Hey Brian, Cross Island 26B, that’s my exit home. Can you share how those springs did on that pavement section just out of the exit? I’m taking delivery of a fully loaded (saw your other video as well) 2024 x3 m40i this week in Maryland.
Haha, nice! The handling and ride is a little smoother and less bouncy than stock suspension. I just took a trip to the Poconos, backroads and interstate all my passengers commented how the car didn't sway as much as other SUVs too!
im getting a spec with the cognac interior too. hopefully in about a week

Are there any pops and bangs in sport plus on the 20’ model year?
there are a few around 6k rpm and dropping to 4k, however its not consistent and you must completely let off after a hard acceleration!
How many miles were on your 2020 M40i when you bought it. Any issues for service since owning it. I’m look at a used one on Carmax and like it but never driven one
just under 31k miles. No issues and just did a oil analysis with Blackstone (now 35k miles) which came back near perfect. honestly, some days i wish i had the m340 but the x3 is a great all around car. definitely test drive an x3, even if its the base model to see how you fit in the car!
@@DrivnByBrian thanks for feedback. I’m concerned that 2 people owned the one I’m looking at with only 27k miles. I like the sound and performance but is a newer X3 30i m sports package a better way to go. Both same price only difference is 2020 vs 2022.
@@mikej3755 I got the X3 M40i for the B58 engine. So personally I wouldn’t consider any 4 cylinder/B48 engine. If you aren’t looking for the “power” or “sportiness” of the 6 cylinder/B58, then I’d get the 2022. Just make sure you negotiate in the extended warranty or learn how to do maintenance on your own, to help with cost of ownership!

Hey great video man. Just picked up my 2020 x3 m40i a week ago and I’m trying to figure out the mirror tap for my radar detector. Would love to see a quick video on how you did it or a quick explanation would be great. Thanks
Appreciate it! And for sure - I've been slacking with the videos but will add this to the list. Took me an hour because i had fat fingers lol
why didnt you give a preview of what the driver assist pro package looks like on the vehicle why driving the vehicle.
I should've! Maybe next time, its a little finnicky but great when it works as designed
Hey bro just wondering, I'm cross shopping this with a 2019+ Macan S and they're around the same price on the used market (less options tho), did you cross shop that too or did you always want the m40i?
Great question! I considered the SQ5, Macan and Model Y Performance as competitors. Coming out of college and supporting the car myself, going straight to Porsche instead BMW/Audi/Tesla seemed unwise. I "could" afford it, but across 5-7 years it wouldn't be smart for my future self. Or if I did, would I really enjoy spending more money for my first luxury car? Coming from a Honda, BMW is enough lol. I ultimately chose BMW because of its more friendly-priced maintenance, upkeep, modification capability, and community. If I had to pick another I'd go Audi for those reasons as well. At the end of the day, whatever fits your budget (Macan Turbo S is calling my name.. but eventually)
Before both our M40I G01 we tried Macan Turbo 2015... 🤮 I was disapointed... No caracter... We had M50D F15 and i Can say BMW have more caracter. We tried M40i and the result was as expected. For me Porsche is 911.
did you get any additional drop after a few weeks due to the springs settleing compared to the ride height after the first day of install ?
Honestly, nothing noticeable. If anything it'd be less than 0.5 inch due to the science of it. I am on 19in stock wheels and planning to upgrade to a summer setup in a few months. That should lessen the wheel gap even more
Thx bro, i am looking at a 2020 x3 and was thinking this has it all. But no i got to look on. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Awesome, good luck with your search! It's definitely easy to pick up a COVID optioned car, be patient and don't jump the gun!
Would you trade your 21'' for my 20'' i got the same year m40i just different wheels
Haha thanks but I'm okay. Just got it, can't get rid of it so soon!
Thanks for the step by step. Saving me some money with this video! 🫱🏻🫲🏼 goal is this same spec car by August all modded out by the end of the month 😅 (September)
No problem! I'm also looking to be done with my mods in the fall, it'll be great!
How often do you use the "smart self driving" feature of this car? I didnt get the x3m40i with the smart driving features. Figured you don't get this car to self drive and this is a drivers car lol
used it coming back from the dealership! 6 hours ranging from 70mph to stop and go traffic, and it worked the entire time. honestly was pretty impressed
Thanks!
10:30 or it could be the parking brake is still on and you actually have to give it some gas to tell the system to release it
Nope, I'm one of the few people that actually uses their parking brake so it's definitely off lol. I actually "tested" this by giving both low and medium throttle. The car is much more comfortable when it is purposely revved to 2k RPM right after cold start!
Cool video man.. Glad to see, you're already thinking responsibly/maturely. Best of luck with your future endeavors. Seems like you have a great head on your shoulder, which also speaks volume to your parental guidance. 👌
Appreciate it boss! Wishing you the best too
That V1 been working good for you?
This is actually the B58TU (Gen 2). 2018-2019 M40s are B58 (Gen 1). The 2020-2021 M40 is the mid-cycle refresh which updated the engine and interior design. The addition of the mild-hybrid occurs right after (2022 - Present)
