I'm from sutton grew up in prescot and I moved to st Helen's when I first married in the early 70s I divorced and got a house on both ave when it was tough in 76 but it was a brilliant estate a lot more good people on there than bad my son was nearly 5 when we moved on I didn't know a soul in sutton but I grew to love it and still do I've been in sutton 44 years me and my hubby bought a house down the junction .I wished they had kept the markets in town what a crowd puller they would be today .birchalls is the best pie shop hope it lives for a long long time what st Helen's could do with is fruit and veg shops and butchers the are loads of shops empty instead if selling the shops and turning them into flats they could do with filling the shops with.ladies clothes shops shoe shops and gents shoe and clothes shops as well as kids .electrical shops oh think of all the shops long gone st Helen's want pulling up by its boot straps and get all the businesses es igojng again not the shell of a town that it now is xxx

Just found this. It's got it's problems but it's home

st helens is an urban densely populated town with some mountain scenery that is filled with people drinking wilst watching "good old jeremy" in the middle of the day living of the glory days if the once great and powerful British empire and the world changing industrial revolution

It's called an accent you ignorant fool. One of the great things about this country is that every town and city has a different accent, would you go to somewhere Newcastle or Birmingham and ask them why they speak the way they do? How boring would it be if we all spoke in the same tone? So to answer your inane question, we speak like this because it is the St Helen's tongue and we're proud of it..!!

My people on my dad's paternal side came from St. Helens..they were coalminers and 3 brothers including my gt. grandad came to Canada ..yes I guess it is a pretty scruffy town but again back then the people had to be tough to survive..it was one of the most densely populated town in northern England during victorian times and life was harsh.

Im from st.helens,and its good,and bad.like a lot of the country is. No point being a hater,if u dont like it,move on. Its not terrible,nor is it amazing, its a nice town.

Do not criticize other people`s spelling and then make spelling mistakes of your own. It is wouldn`t and wasn`t, the apostrophe indicating where the missing letter, i.e. "o", was.Tut tut.
