Cumberland Gap - Old Time Banjo
Cumberland Gap 🏞️ played in fDGCD (I think it's known as sandy river belle tuning) in the style of @romerobanjos
I've been playing this tune for the last couple of months but it never sounded quite right. Last week I discovered it should be played with 3 fingers instead of 2...So old time 3 finger style banjo is something that exists too 😵💫 Got some exploring to do..

Waterbound 🌊 two finger style on a fretless tackhead. I played an up-tempo version of this song with @band.reminder.music in clawhammer style. Great tune by Clyde Davenport. I've played it in Clawhammer style for years, tried two finger just this week. Gives the tune a very different atmosphere. The crying baby near the end is my son, I guess he grew tired of listening to the same rune over and over again... Hope you enjoy!
Clawhammer Banjo Lesson: Double C tuning
มุมมอง 6734 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I try to explain the versatility of double C tuning. Personally I don't like practicing with tabs, because they focus too much on the different notes instead of the atmosphere the tune needs to have. Double C is a very nice sounding, easy to use tuning that I think often gets overlooked in tutorial videos. Tuning: gCGCD I'm very bad at breakdowns, so there's nothing of that, but I...

Probably my favourite fiddle tune to listen! This one was first recorded in 1939 by Ernest Claunch. Many versions online have twin fiddles playing opposite melodies, very nice. I can especially recommend the recording by Rhys Jones & Christina Wheeler

Trying to catch the rare sunbeams of 2024. This must be the shittiest spring we've had in years. How's the weather in America? Played on a fretless mountain banjo made by Leon Ballard.
Gospel Plow - Clawhammer Banjo

First heard this song on the legendary old time album by Chance McCoy and the Appalachian String Band, I believe Adam Hurt played banjo on that one. I later learned the song is in fact much older, and has African-American roots. Knowing this the lyrics got a whole new meaning. I imagine Afro-American slaves endlessly working the fields, hoping to reach God's kingdom when they keep on plowing

Ruby with the Eyes that Sparkle - Two Finger style Banjo (Cold Mountain)
มุมมอง 1.5Kปีที่แล้ว
Ruby with the Eyes that Sparkle ✨ I first heard this tune in the movie Cold Mountain. Later learned it's basically 'Shove that Pigsfoot' played in D instead of G. I don't know if the name indicates the difference in key, or if the film studio didn't want to go with pigsfoot. It is kind of a funny name for a such a serious movie..

New year, new banjo! I always wanted to add a mountain banjo to my collection and last week I finally got the chance. I was a bit scared for the 27" scale length initially, but it turns out to be very comfortable for fretless playing. I recorded this tune with my band Reminder back in 2018. East Virginia - Two Finger Style Banjo

East Virginia - I've been practicing a lot of two finger style lately. Started with index lead but it didn't feel very natural. Switched to thumb and that worked out better. I've been struggling a lot with the high notes on the first string, so yesterday I tried to switch those to the second string. Things are falling into place. An interesting journey for sure!

Nice! One of my favorite tunes, so I hope you do an updated video of it with the camera and mic closer, since this one is 3yrs old, anyway. Best Wishes from Kentucky! 🙂
@@petehealy9819 thanks! I might do that :)
This is the third video of yours I've watched since discovering your channel literally 10 minutes ago, and I love it. Love your tempos fingerboard work that give the tunes such a warm, natural, soulful vibe. Brilliant!
What a beautiful rendition! So glad this came up in my feed. Now I'm gonna go check out your channel!
Thanks for the helpful video. Could you actually play in any key with this tuning buy just changing the 5th string? Thanks
My man speaks mountains I guess
Perfect! I love the Romeros and have never found anyone that plays quite like them, it is possible!
Any chance of getting a Tab for this. The best version I have heard so far for Two finger! And what is your tuning? This is terrific!
Amazing

@@mikesoule1352 that's a very accurate description:p
Very cool Jelle! I like the approach you took with this lesson, kind of a road map of this specific tuning you made! I like that way better than the “note-for-note copy this song exactly like I do” lessons that you generally see. You’re on to something here, great work!
Glad to hear you like my approach. I wasn't really sure of it so thank you!
Double C tuning is just the best. Ever since I was brave enough to start doing different tunings it opened up so many more wonderful sounds to the banjo that I had been missing in Standard G. Obviously I am still very much a beginner and there maybe other tunings that lay ahead that may come close, but for now I am drawn to that tunes that have that are filled with better depth of notes. Can't sum it up really but I agree completely that the atmosphere is enriched in Double C. Thank you again for getting your head around teaching us, always difficult to put into words what comes naturally to yourself, you basically have to slow down everything and dissect it slowly and verbally transpose it to us. You did grand. I look forward to all your content, great tunes and wonderful playing.
Thanks for the kind words!
Well done, Jelle!
Great lesson Jelle!
Thanks! Hope it can be of some help
