Fish Creek Time Lapse 2018
During my walks in Fish Creek Park, I noticed Fish Creek’s water level changes dramatically as the seasons pass.
I began video documenting these changes.
This video is a compilation of clips of Fish Creek (near the confluence with the Bow River) captured from January to October 2018 .
iPhone video recorded as I walked.

      Hi Cody. The gauge overlay is provided by the GoPro camera and software. It's an option I can turn off. The GoPro uses its internal GPS receiver for positioning and speed values. These will zero out and freeze when the camera loses lock on enough satellites. Thank you for the kind words.

      Here in Calgary, we have an outdoor pet-cat by-law. Cats must be kept inside or on a leash. I believe the reasoning is to protect the wild birds. We started keeping our "outdoor" cat inside once we learned of this by-law. Because of this by-law, Calgary is renowned for being a bird-friendly North American city.

    I am planning a March 6-12 trip to possibly Banff this year. I was thinking about heading over to Panorama for 1 day if the snow and weather are decent at the time. It sounded like you had some ice or quite a bit of crust. Do you remember what time of March this was filmed?

      Ever since I started feeding these guys what my cat won't eat the day before, they've stopped making a lot of the annoying noise. Yes, at this time of the year their chicks are loud but I'm OK with it. Not long ago they went into full alarm mode. I went outside to learn what the problem was and it was a bobcat in the back lane. I've never had them tap on the window. I like the birds (most of the time).

I moved here from Ontario, I put my dog dish outside because he likes to lay out there in the grass, but the birds go insane and mess with him, they steel the food. They recognize human faces and pass on to their young who can be trusted.

    Two things: 1. Did you verify that the run you ducked the rope to get into was open at the top before you ducked the rope? Otherwise that is a real bad idea. 2. The more your hands are in the frame the better your skiing will be on steeps like that. Keep working on it.

    • @SYPCWAK
      @SYPCWAK 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi kkeelty64, Thanks for the comments. I had to watch the video again to see what you meant. I was following the group I was with. I believe the run was open but we took a shut cut to get better snow. Thanks for the tip. My skiing has greatly improved since I shot this video. The run was slightly above my skiing abilities at the time. The group I was with was confident that I could handle it. Admittedly at time, I didn't share their confidence. :)

    • @kkeelty64
      @kkeelty64 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SYPCWAK Awesome that your skiing has improved. It seemed to be at a pretty high level when you shot this, so kudos! The rope line comment is one that I feel pretty strongly about. Patrol in any area with high consequence terrain (and the backside of Lake Louise certainly qualifies!) will close some runs and open others for a variety of reasons. By ducking the rope line you may inadvertently pass from a safe run onto an unsafe one (different avalanche profile due to aspect, pitch, wind loading, etc) or even onto a run that is closed because patrol needs to do urgent avalanche mitigation (explosives). By ducking a rope line for "better snow" you may put yourself, other skiers, and ski patrol at risk. Be safe out there, and hope you had a great season.

    That first run wasnt Memorial Bowl. The bowl is beside the chairlift ( the lift is just to the left of the run when going downhill). You were skiing the far right side of the mountain. When i worked at Norquay in the mid 80’s we used to call it the glade. It wasnt a formal run at the time, as it was in a potential avalanche area, but people would go under the rope to ski it pretty regularly. I hope you did the Lone Pine, which is on the left side(going downhill) of the North American chair. Its the signature run at Norquay. Its a pretty consistant 38 degree moguled slope.

    How do you like the Kore 99’s?

    • @SYPCWAK
      @SYPCWAK 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Kore99s have their pluses and minuses. They are MUCH lighter than my previous set (Blizzard Bonafides) and that makes them a lot easier on the legs especially at the end of the day. They turn and carve well. But I find they are more sensitive to crud than the Bonafides. The Bonafides would rip through anything while the KORE99s seem to flap more in the crud. All of the top paint and markings have rubbed off the KORE99s. If you put the old 6-year old Bonafides beside the newer KORE99s, you would immediately say the Bonafides are the newer pair. I'd like to test a new set of Bonafides vs. the KOREs and see if I prefer the KOREs. I hope that helps.

    Did you guy's just duck a rope when you dropped into the Glades? It was right in front of a sign that said "Avalanche Area." Total kook move! The only thing dumber than ducking under the rope was posting a video of you doing it. Patrol sets those closures to SAVE YOUR LIFE. Show a little respect for their hard work. I've skied the Anaconda Glades many times, use the designated gates to enter them. No one wants to dig your body out after you have skied out into an avi zone.

      @SYPCWAK 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Christian, Thanks for the comments. I had to rewatch the video to understand what you were talking about. If you look hard you’ll notice that there’s an opening to drop into the glades further down. The entrance was about 50 feet away from where we went in. I’m sure the snow was the same. The signs were warning signs. If you watch the video again you’ll see from all of the tracks in front of us that this area was already well skied out by many others before we got there. There was no avalanche risk that day. I never would have gone anywhere near there if there was any risk of avalanche. Please check out my other videos and thanks for watching.

      If you notice the warning signs fold down to indicate closed runs due to avi conditions. In the video you can clearly see that it is not folded into the "red" not safe to ski position.

      Just like Aidan said, they fold down into red signs that are shaped like stop signs bud. Red signs mean you can't go passed them while the yellow ones are there as a warning. Get your facts right before you try and criticize someone lol :)

    Great stuff! Humor integrated into a serious set of little but frustrating problems many adults can relate to.... clever idea! Music sounds so good... video production is amazing! I'm seriously impressed! Got a green screen eh?

      WOW!! Thank you very much, Don, for the wonderful comments and kind words!!!! They are very much appreciated! I try to squeeze humour into all of my videos. I can’t help it. I thought the egg crushing scene was pretty funny. I have almost as much fun making and editing the video as I do the song and music. The green screen changed my life.

      I thought one of them reminded me of a Star Wars Star Cruiser with a smaller vehicle following it.
