My first thought is ANTS, they “farm” aphids, eating the sugary excrement of the aphids. So, I’d check for ants on the tree, prune any branches they use as highways onto the tree and put an “ant strip” on the trunk to prevent the ants climbing up the trunk. I’d also put a secure water bowl in the yard and make sure cats can’t get at it, so birds can use it. I’ve watched birds systematically clean a tree of aphids. As to the plum maggots, I’d suspect “Fruit Fly”, not sure of the spelling, it’s kinda like “Drosophila”. The treatment for them is baiting, you can buy baits to trap them. You can also spray for them. The real way is DISCIPLINE, don’t let fruit sit on the ground (the maggots crawl out, burrow into the ground and pupate into the fly). Destroy infected fruit carefully (I cut it up and put it in a bowl for my fowl, don’t put it on the ground for the maggots to escape OR boil it before giving it to the chickens OR bag it well and put it in the garbage). Bait as noted and check the baits for efficacy. Consider netting your trees?

Great video. I have looked at many different ideas for DIY sun loungers and this appears to be the perfect blend of simplicity and functionality. I will probably make some minor adjustments but this is a great place to start. Going to work on this this winter/fall and will most likely make it out of cedar.
