Roaming Hearts for Wind Ensemble was premiered by the Clover Hill High School Wind Ensemble during their Sounds of Spring concert on 18 May 2023. I had the pleasure to conduct this piece myself, and could not have been happier to work with these wonderful students and this excellent program in Midlothian, Virginia.

It was in the capable hands of the Imperial Percussion Theater Cadets, who competed in Texas Color Guard Circuit’s A class, earning a bronze medal at the championships in the ensemble’s first year. This is a cadence based on the 311 tune Lucky off of their Grassroots record. This one is solid for any number of basses, and includes a cymbal part that will actually keep the players working! This beginner percussion octet is great for experienced junior high percussionists or high school beginners. It has two keyboard parts and six drum parts, which can be played on any drum as long as the relative pitch and timbre is considered. I composed this piece for a good friend’s beginner percussion class. It is designed to be modular, and only uses practice pads. It also utilises the stand and sticks for sounds.
