Porsche 911 (996) Front Radiator Clean Out - A MUST DO For All Porsche Owners!!!
Thank you for the video! I have a TD-H3 and love it. I’m very very new to Ham radio and kind of want to get a Baofeng UV5R because it seems to be a staple in everyone’s shack. Must be for a good reason!
From Mick: @crystalvelasquez2446, I’m glad you liked the video and getting into radios. There are lots of options, but most are pretty similar. The good thing about these radios is that they are cheap and you can get both. Learn the repeaters in your area and get a good antenna with adapter to use with the handheld. 73’s
Thanks for this video. I am having the same issue on my 05’. I found a set of used updates pipes on eBay and am going to put wrap around exhaust clamps at rear section with threaded rod to hold them together. How’s yours holding up?
@billyjenkins3015 it’s holding up really well!!! I check every once in a while to make sure all is good - oil change coming up and I’ll check again! Thanks for watching!!! 👍🏻
I have the UV-S9X3, UV-9S TRI, and the BF-F8HP. I've gotten good results from all three. Have you tried any of those?
From Mick: @tacticalbilly7602, I have not tried them…….yet. I’m always up for testing new radios.
Uh-oh... I have never thought of this before seeing that comment. So glad I found this video!
From Mick: @bhoward9378, I have thank another viewer for giving me the heads up. Thanks for watching and glad to help.
😂😂😂 excelente
From Mick: @elmostro82, it was a good time making this video. Always good working with the kids.
2 questions. Can you raise the hood with the antenna installed or do you need to remove it before raising the hood? And, with the radio installed, can a passenger still ride without their knee rubbing on it (in other words, passenger comfort)? This was a great video! It looks like I can install my radio(s) easily! Thanks for the video!! N0EDV
From Mick: @scottlittfin5832, thanks for watching and nice comments. You can open the hood, but watch which bracket you use and then NMO gets close to the wiper, but all works on my install. Plenty of leg room for passengers, seat also moves front and back.
@@Portie2216 Perfect, thanks!!
beautiful
We have more coming - a lot of activity this time of year!
most of the antennas you get with your radios are rubbish with very high SWR and did you check the antennas SWR before transmitting?
From Mick: @robertwoods8419, thanks for the heads up, I have not tested these stock antennas. I will have to, 73’s.
Bullshit app !! Doesn't connect with android ! Support doesn't answer for 2 weeks ! Just Chinese quality by all means !! pc option doesn't connect as well, nowhere properly tutorial !!!
DANG that is MESSED UP
No animals were harmed during the filming of this Short...well, there are burgers on the grill....but no chickens!!! :)
Only thing I don’t like about the 5RM or the Gplus models is that you can’t see what’s on the screen without the screen being fully lit up. I like the UV5R because I can see it while it’s not lit up.
From Mick: @skepticalhippo6376, I agree. This is the same for other radios too, if you watch some of my other videos, you can see me constantly tapping the radio to light up the screen. I need to see if there is a setting for constant on, that you can switch back if battery conservation is needed.
5RM works on airband, tested in my area on AM
From Mick: @lancebangwell, you are correct sir, fun toy to play with.
I completely dropped HAM radio because of Boafeng...spurious signal noise started effecting me, even without my radio turned on. I am a cell phone operator now.
From Mick: @MegaChuckD, sorry to hear that. Maybe try using an adapter to connect a remote antenna a good distance away. Also research signal level of such emissions for different radios. Hope you can stay in the game. 73’s
Super clear videos, just in time for mine. Cheers!
@MITSCG - good deal and thanks for watching! Pretty easy job on the Macan - Good Luck!!!
Hello Sir, How did you take off the old drain plug washer? Thank you
From Mick: @richardrodriguez5480, sometimes if / when the oil pan nut washer sticks to the pan I will use either a plastic tool or wood to tap on the edge to remove without scratching or damaging the pan. I have had to use a flathead screw driver on some old cars. Be careful to not damage the pan and especially any threads
The correct ATF for this 5HP19 box is ZF Lifeguard 5 not Pentosin (Pentosin is used only for the power steering system on the 996) !
Correction, Engine need to be running (ATF pump circulating) and at 30-40c then fill until it start dripping! See ZF 5HP19 oil change video.
Is there a way I can take the .programmed frequencies from another Baofeng radio and past them into the NA-K6 PC spreadsheet? I'm legally blind and fiddling around with a magnifying glass is tedious. It's easier to have the sheet on my 32-inch TV screen. 73, Bruce VE6XTC
From Mick: @VEGXTC, I typically use the CHIRP software to program all my radios the same. Once I have the CSV file set up for radio with the smallest number of memory channels I use that same for all (sometimes add GMRS or other special features depending on the radio). I’m also going to do some research on radio to radio transfer. Thanks for watching, good luck, 73’s
But you are saying it CANNOT TX on GMRS frequencies !? If so that limits it.
From Mick: @BRADH-xw8sw, thanks for watching. I’ll have to go back and review this radio, I’ve been playing with several others and can’t remember what they all do anymore. I’ll get back when I’m done traveling or get a chance to look at specs online.
I love your videos, thanks for making them! How many miles are on your 996? Thanks!
@rogereckstrom5094 - thank you!!! We love doing these videos so it nice to hear people are enjoying them!!! My 996 has around 59,000 - I've put about 2,000 of those myself, hope to do ALOT more!!!!
@@Portie2216 I’m looking at a 2000 996 and it has the original IMS bearing and was wondering about your mileage, the car has 41k original miles and has the original IMS in it so I wanted to see what yours has. Thanks for the reply and keep up the good videos!
@rogereckstrom5094 - I have not done the IMS on this one either. From what I’ve read in my research the 99 & 00 both have the dual row bearing that does have a lower percentage of incidence. When I changed the oil both times there was no metal traces at all - checked the filter element as well - all good! Change oil every 6 months and make sure it’s full and 🤞🏻
@@Portie2216 I will do that for sure, thanks again!
VWSR is not Loss, it is Refective Voltage through your transmission line.
From Mick: @brandonguerrero95, you are correct, I did not state that correctly, just wondering if the cheap adapter from the radio to the meter caused some problems. Thanks for watching, 73’s. I think I’m getting a better adapter.
thank you for the vid ! how long it take you to accomplish that ?
@MichelGheorghe - thanks! It wasn't too long, I'd estimate an hour or two max! Good to have done - I have another video coming that will show how to make a grill for the vents on a Boxster 986. Same can be done for the 996! Check back in about a week and it'll be up!
What does it do?
From Mick: @TateStump, I used a fogging oil to coat the carb and pistons for storage over the winter. Run the carb bowls out of gas, then spray fogging oil in carbs, run a while, then when all dead, turn over engine while spraying to suck oil spray through carbs into pistons!
your phone doesn’t fall from the wireless charger if you strongly accelerate ?
@antoinebigard4908 with the magsafe charger it stays put, also the shelf is on a slight angle that helps keep it in place. I'm really digging the setup and strongly considering for the Boxster I'm currently working on. I have no complaints after a few months of use - great product!!!
There is a non "plus" version, what is the difference ?
From Mick: @ytstephanehenry, I’ll research the difference and get back, probably frequency range or power.
I don't pretend to know anything about this topic, but I did notice that Amazon listing for the "Plus" version noted that "often returned item". Have no idea why.
From Mick: @curtisyoncis7880, I’ll have to look into that, they could be several reasons why such as functions, power, or quality. Thanks for watching and commenting
Had one similar to this one he's showing. After 1 day, display turned upside down and everything was in Chinese. They sent me a free return sticker and mailed that china junk back.
Very nice radio but there is still not enough coverage in the frequency ranges. On the farms in South Africa, we use two radios with two frequency ranges namely 66 to 69 Mhz and 400 to 470 Mhz. As a result, you either have one radio or the other one or you have to carry two radios with you because there is no radio on the market that covers these two frequency ranges in one radio. It would have been so nice if this radio could cover the 66 tot 69 Mhz and the 400 to 470 Mhz frequency range but it only goes down to 76 Mhz.
From Mick: @suidafrikaanseboer3320 - thanks for watching and interesting comment. Can you let me know why you use the two different frequency ranges, is each farm different or both frequencies used on the same farm? I’ll have to do some digging into the lower range. Thanks again for the comment
When bleeding the brakes, since you opened that brake distribution block did that need to be bled as well?
@jordynrobles3881 - we did not have to bleed the distribution block specifically, I believe the whole system bleed when we did it from the four corners. Did it twice to make sure - been driving awhile with no issues so we consider it good to go!
Hey Ya'll - we heard back from Radioddity and the noise Mick notes around the 8:50 mark in the video - that is actually the relay element which is completely normal! No worries!!!
You should have simplex channels 1-7 and 15-22 and repeater channels on Wide band.
From Mick: @djsoundzentertainment42 - I did not know reason for limitations, I’ll have to look into the rules.
They both have the same range? Amazon says 5 miles for UV5r and 50 for the other. Is this true?
From Mick: @ColoradoForestBeings - I would say they both about the same range. They are both about same watts (within 2 watts of each other). Range depends more on path of radio waves with few obstructions. I have hit repeaters 30 miles away with clear signal path but can’t hit others 4 miles away cause of hills. Watch my video testing range between three radios, I think original UV-5R did best.
@@Portie2216 am catching up on all your videos thank you so much!!

Did not know these channels are locked out from Transmitting. Thanks for the info!
From Mick: @peterliljequist160 - you are correct about the .5 watts. I should have noted, you can listen on those channels but the radio will not transmit. There is a lot to cover on theses videos, it is nice people chime in and add things I missed. Great community.
FCC says only handheld GMRS radios can transmit on the 8-14 channels.
FRS Channel 8-14 are limited to 0.5 watts. This radio on power low power ( 5 watts) exceeds this limit based on what you stated. Just saying
Nobody cares
From Mick: @peterliljequist160 - you are correct about the .5 watts. I should have noted, you can listen on those channels but the radio will not transmit. There is a lot to cover on theses videos, it is nice people chime in and add things I missed. Great community.
Power output isn't the reason why you can't transmit on channels 8-14. The only reason is because the FCC says only handheld GMRS radios can transmit on those channels.
Dyslexia is fun.
@EWSRadio - Haha thanks for catching that for us!!!! Title is updated!!!
Does it matter which is inside or outside the pads ? Or can you put eithher pads however you want along with the sensor?
@honeybadger1125 - As I recall you can use either pad on either side. I would read any instructions that may have come with the pads or look at the metal face to ensure it doesn't give instructions. The ones I purchased you could use on either side and both had a space for the pad sensor. Good luck and thanks for watching!!!
@Portie2216 alright then, thank u very much.
This car gonna be sweet when it’s finished! Great video!
@user-dx4lt4fs6b - Thanks for watching and commenting - I literally can not wait to get this running and driving!!!

Thanks for the video, the final check of the fluid (40c) should be with the vehicle running or not. ? Thanks
@AR-gq8ju - yes engine should be running when checking and topping off oil. Here is the process for checking and topping off ATF: Information * Read out the ATF temperature using PIWIS Tester II 9818. * The ATF temperature must not be higher than 30 °C at the beginning of the ATF test. * The ATF level changes as the ATF temperature changes. * Perform ATF test when the engine running and selector lever in position P. * An ATF test performed when the ATF temperature is too low will result in overfilling. * An ATF test performed when the temperature is too high will result in insufficient filling. * An ATF level that is too high or too low will impair the function of the transmission. Information * The ATF level is checked at the ATF inspection plug. * The ATF level is correct if a small amount of fluid still emerges at the ATF inspection plug at an ATF temperature of between 30° and 50 °C. Information Always pay particular attention to the following before raising the vehicle: * Deactivate the levelling system before raising the vehicle (press and hold the levelling system button for at least 10 seconds). * If a transmission range is engaged while the vehicle is raised, the levelling system must first be deactivated using PIWIS Tester II 9818. To do this, select >>Levelling system/PASM<< >>Drive links/checks<< >>Activate/deactivate vehicle<< in the control unit overview. Select the value "Deactivate levelling system (permanently)" and press "Start" [F8] to execute the function. Re-activate the levelling system when the work is complete. To do this, select the value "Activate leveling system" in the same menu item and press "Start" [F8] to execute the function. 1. Read off the ATF temperature on PIWIS Tester II 9818 while the engine is running. 2. Leave engine running at idle speed. 3. Place oil collection pan underneath. 4. Fill manual metering pump Manual metering pumps HDP 500 Porsche WE 1372 with ATF for the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK). 5. Check and top up ATF. 5.1. When an ATF temperature of 30 °C is reached, unscrew the ATF inspection plug 5.2. If ATF emerges from the ATF control opening before the ATF temperature has reached 40 °C, the ATF level is OK. 5.3. If no ATF emerges at a temperature of up to 40 °C, add ATF using manual metering pump HDP 500 Porsche WE 1372 until ATF emerges. Information 1. The ATF inspection plug must be closed again at 50 °C at the latest. 2. Switch off the engine if necessary, let the transmission cool down and repeat the test. 6. Screw in and tighten new ATF inspection plug with a new sealing ring. Tightening torque 45 Nm (33 ftlb.)

The UV-2 and Tri has less than 2 hours operating time on them! BUY something more dependable FOR THE BUG-OUT BAG !!!!!!!!!! ( until this recent discovery, I recommended these to people ! ) Also, for the other commenter- NO! You cannot transmit ON GMRS freqs with these according to the FCC! I have that license too! PLease get LICENSED since it is much easier today than it was Years Ago! Take the Practice Test @ The FCC ! IT COSTS NOTHING ! Thanks !
I have a Yaesu FT 530 HT that I bought new over 30 years ago and it still works as new. I now have an FT70DR a TIDH8 a TYT 88. Yes the UV5R is a cheap radio. I think for the money the TID H8 is a good radio. Time will tell if it lasts 30 years.
From Mick: I agree with both of you. The higher end brands should be more reliable and that should be considered depending on use. I am amazed at what the cheaper radios can do and are great for playing with, newbies (like me), and testing/practicing. I also agree, get your license (ham and GMRS).
