MAJOR CORRECTION: I read the wrong column on the vote tally document below. 1.7 MILLION voted in 2020 - 250/1.7mill is .0147% that's right, less than 2 hundredths of a percent! I thought it sounded like too low a number. That was how many didn't vote. What can I say, this is real life, y'all! Dopamine is a hormone made in our brains. We need it for many things, we struggle when we are dopamine deficient. We can also crave the rush of dopamine, subconsciously. And this is where DRAMA, of all varieties, comes to our aid. Let's stop saying we don't like drama, and start saying we like to CHOOSE our drama. I feel it's a much more accurate way to talk about our lives. www.webmd.com/menta...

In general, I am not really fond of this time of the year. The holidays are difficult for me. But I'm trying to find ways to be content if nothing else. I took a walk today as opposed to driving to do an errand. And I also went to the library, which I broke my own rule and ended up checking out three books instead of just one. This month is National Novel Writing Month and I wasn't really feeling motivated. But then a few days ago I had this huge idea in my head during work. It would be nice to really be creative with what I have in my mind to write, but I just need a bit more motivation and I suppose a little more free time. The things you shared sound like good ideas. I try to do some of them, but I tend to get discouraged easily. I hope they have been working well for you this week.

I'm sorry about what happened to you, but I'm glad you were able to get it corrected so your vote counts. I have heard of a similar situation in Florida that really disgusted me the lengths people in power will go to take away someone's right to vote. I hope that you don't have to deal with this again in future elections. With that said...I wasn't planning on voting this election. Really, I have only voted once and it was four years ago and I really had to force myself to do so. I guess I just never felt like my vote ever mattered. But there were some things over the past months that has kind of stated with me. And as weird as this may sound, one of those things was something that you said regarding voting. You sounded really passionate about being able to vote, even in small, local elections. And so, yesterday, I decided to vote. I know that my vote more than likely won't change things in your area, but I am glad that I at least made the effort to use my voice instead of staying silent. Sorry if I'm asking this wrong, but as someone who was born here, is the process of obtaining citizenship difficult?

Oh that's so cool! I'm glad I inspired you to use your voice! Single votes can make a difference, here's some fun facts from around the world www.mentalfloss.com/article/59873/10-elections-decided-one-vote-or-less Here in IA in 2020, the R rep "won" by just 6 votes, though it was found 25+ legal votes had been incorrectly excluded from the totals that would have put the D over the R. As it was after the certifying time, the D asked Congress to recount it, with the R serving until it was done, and the R refused to join the request. The D candidate ended up withdrawing the request in an attempt to soften the divisive rhetoric after J6 (or that's what it sounded like in their press release about withdrawing the request). Becoming a citizen is a long process (most of it waiting for appointments), and expensive. I had to take 3 separate days off of work for appointments with USCIS, and the only location is in IA is in Des Moines, several hours from me. so you need money, a car (or other reliable transport), a job that's ok with you taking time off, etc. I did not find it particularly "difficult" per se, just a lot of steps to take. Studying for the civics test can take time, especially for those who didn't take US history/politics before. When my naturalization ceremony happened, I was so nervous and overwhelmed with emotions - a day I will hopefully never forget. :)

Here’s an interesting tradition for you. Out here in the Des Moines area all the cities have gotten together and started beggers night and it has been going on since 1938. It is he on a different night than Halloween and the children have to tell you a joke to get candy instead of saying trick-or-treat. This year because of storms on Wednesday, it was moved to Halloween and it’s the first time it’s been on Halloween since 1938. They started the tradition to deter vandalism.

I have had people be what could be considered nice towards me, but something would be off about it. Like someone would offer me something and if I politely declined, they would try to guilt me into taking it. But then I have had someone do something and they would go about in a very sincere way. No guilt or agenda. And I suppose I could feel their kindness if that makes any sense. Anyway, I hope this isn't too off topic regarding what you said. Isn't it something when you can feel their warm intentions? In terms of the guilt into taking something, there's something that I think is called "herd effect" - a good example is when I have tried to lose weight and others buy me a treat they know I love and they are "trying to be nice". They may not realize it but they are subconsciously trying to keep me "in the herd" in line - we all do it. If we can change (or step out of line), it changes the equilibrium of our social group and most of us do not actively enjoy change, so we unconsciously try to get each other "back in line". In animals, including early humans, this was very important. It is used in society to keep us all acting in an agreed upon 'normal' way. Unconsciously, or whatever, we all know there are societal norms and we are taught them from the moment we are born. I think it's FASCINATING. I should look up some resources and talk about this sometime...

I try to take accountability for my actions as in not to react too strongly on my emotions. A couple of weeks ago, I had someone say some pretty thoughtless things to me. I was already feeling bad and what this person said just added to that. And it brought on feelings of wanting to drink as I just felt overwhelmed. Something similar happened seven years ago where I did end up drinking and it led to things not going very well for a few months. Sorry in advance if this ends up being too long. So, I'm in the Upstate part of South Carolina(Greenville) and it's next to the western part of North Carolina. For whatever reason, my job had us come in to work on the day of the storm and it began as the shift before me was finishing up. The power going out was the only reason everyone got sent home. By the time I tried to leave, trees had fallen in the road and blocked the entrance out of the complex. I got stuck in the mud trying to go around one of the fallen trees. It was not a pleasant experience, but eventually once the storm cleared, I was able to get AAA to pull the car out and there was no real damage to it except losing a bit of tire pressure. I ended up spending four nights without power. Luckily, other areas didn't lose power so I was able to go to stores for food or to a hotel downtown where they let me charge things like my phone there. One odd thing is that I didn't feel all that hungry during the time without power. People here also don't seem to realize that when traffic lights are out, that it doesn't mean you get to plow right through them. That caused a lot of accidents. It was hard to get through as there were a lot of uncertainty when power would be restored, but I realize it was not as bad here as it is in western North Carolina. That area was thought to be the perfect place in dealing with things like climate change and major storms, but this has proved that it wasn't after all. I fear many there may not recover from this for some time. Again, sorry for the long explanation, but I just wanted to share my experience with the storm. Anyway, I hope that you're able to get tickets to see Oasis and that those two brothers manage to get along for the entire tour and don't end up cancelling during it or something.

I'm sorry to hear of the issues you had, glad to hear electricity is back on, and that you didn't suffer more. What is WRONG with companies?!?!?!! When it's "bad enough" to leave, it's already too late. Flood waters can rise insanely fast. There's basically nothing more important than worker lives (AKA PEOPLE). They need to do better prioritizing people. The power was out for 3 days at my apartment after the mid west Derecho in 2020. Luckily a friend lived on same grid as a fire station and had power back in a few hours. I was able to go there in the day, and her internet worked too so didn't lose any work time. At my apt. my water and hot water heater work even when the power is out. That was something I realized and was super grateful for. Power outages mean stop lights are 4 way stops? how do people not know that too??? I'm mad for you. People here run red lights and smile at you as they do it (ok, it's not all people, but it's happened to me more than once which makes it a huge problem in my opinion). Anyway, glad you are ok. We finally got a win today! Game 6 of 38... It was a lot of systematic issues, from the top down, like hiring a manager and then the owner would meddle in trades, bringing in players the manager didn't want, and paying stupid money for them. One of the most egregious was hiring Rafa Benitez, former Liverpool manager (our arch rivals) despite massive outcry from the fans - we know his style and it's NOT Everton. The war in Ukraine and Russian sanctions hit our club hard, yes, but it wouldn't have if the owner had diversified sponsorship deals and not had so many from Alisher Usmanov - something that felt like a work around to rules on ownership. Some of it was sticking too long with managers that weren't working, meddling in trades, etc. etc. Too much of a pattern of bad ownership/management of the club from top down. I'll have to think on my hopes for the new owner, so I say it more accurately. Maybe I'll do a video on it if/when the deal is approved and finalized!!

She reminds me of another con artist, Billy McFarland in that she doesn't seem to feel any remorse for what she did and will continue to find ways to get money from people. I have only watched a few episodes of DWTS over the years, and it's been interesting the variety of stars they have had participate (Steve-O from Jackass). But I have a feeling at some point, they're going to bring in more questionable "stars" like they have this season. Wouldn't be surprised if the Hawk Tuah girl's name has been brought up a few times in a pitch meeting.

Agreed. It's a sad truth that they will always try to get publicity with controversial castings. Way way back they had Bristol Palin whose only claim to fame was her mother being chosen by McCain as a running mate in 2008(?), that was in an early-ish season. I've heard the list of celebs who want to participate is long... it boggles the mind that they couldn't find anyone better than this con woman who shows many signs of narcissism and lack of remorse/empathy/normal emotions.

I give others the grace of being novices but not myself. at work, it is 'not ok' for me to get 'exceeds expectations' on my reviews, I 'need' to aim for 'excels'. Well... I am wary of getting advice and even more so about giving it. I once was in a group setting and made the mistake of saying i was feeling a bit stuck in life. This one guy in the group felt that i was isolating myself. His solution? It was to talk to people more. Not in a practical way like joining a club or something. But like just go up to strangers on the street and just start telling them my problems and stuff. Why he thought me going up to a random person and opening up to them about whatever is on my mind was a good idea, I'm not really sure, but I definitely did not take this advice to heart. What I try at the very least to do is empathize with someone. And I say that because giving advice that is practical can be difficult. And too many times, whether it's online or off, people tend to become "experts" on other people's problems, when more often than not, they can't seem to solve their own. Anyway, I'm not sure if that really made sense.

Unsolicited advice is tough. I try to avoid it. At work it's my job to give feedback whether it's wanted or not sometimes. I try to make sure it's focused on working together to move forward. Outside of work, I will ask are you looking for advice or to vent? I can do either but not both. That way I'm giving advice when it's wanted. Even then, I like to say something like 'take it with a pinch of salt' or 'regardless, do what feels right to you' etc. Empathy, and leading with empathy, is something I try to do, and advocate for with everyone. It's a fantastic way to approach our interactions with others.

But I am always grateful for the movie Shaun of the Dead because it featured the song Don't Stop Me Now, which in turn made me go out and get Queen's greatest hits CD, which opened me up to a ton of their songs not called We Will Rock You and We are the Champions. As far as who I would like to see in concert...as I said, I don't have the best taste in music so I can't see myself going to an event that is very loud and crowded. This is negative to say but I feel I find myself feeling frustrated or something similar quite often. Sometimes, I can pinpoint why, like if it's at work and maybe something like people just letting one of our trash bins overflow, then I will make the effort to dump it out. And it's weird, but there have been times where I have had to deal with trying to dump a trash bag so heavy that it would break and I would have to do so in the rain, but I would find some kind of satisfaction from it. And I guess that would help with any frustration I was feeling, strangely enough. But when it comes to other times, like being out around others and maybe feeling inadequate and comparing myself to people I see (like couples or groups of friends), that's a bit hard. I think I just eventually retreat back to solitude where I feel those things less. Anyway, I don't know if I explained that well, but I'm sorry about the way you were feeling at the time you made this video.

Oddly enough, this first came about after I first saw the movie Independence Day and thought about maybe having a better chance at surviving such a thing if I lived as far away from any major city. This is kind of dumb of me to admit, but a few years ago I managed to overcome my lifelong fear of driving enough to get my license. I just heard that Suni Lee had 2 different kidney issues last year that could have ended her career. Not sure how I missed this news. She took Bronze on uneven bars for her third medal this Olympics. Noah Lyle just won his 100m race in a photo finish. I just love the heartwarming stories of perseverance and grit.

The bread is super easy to make! Search King Arthur flour no-kneed bread. You mix up the flour, water and yeast a few days before you want the bread and leave it in the fridge. when you are ready you let it come to room temperature (it took closer to 2.5 hours for my dough than the one they say in the recipe) and then bake it.

I have at times thought of cutting my mother out of my life. It's not exactly simple, though I have learned to not share certain things with her. I guess for me, I think about times where I don't feel I was a good son and I feel guilt and shame and I try to work on improving in certain parts of my life. My mother does not see where she has been wrong. And I would maybe be okay with that if it wasn't for the fact that she would expect change from me and more so, it be in an almost unrealistic way. I try to accept that she may never change but it's hard. Really, I suppose there are other people in my life, past and present that I have similar issues like that with. Anyway, thank you for sharing this. I'm sorry that you had to cut your mother and sibling out of your life, even though it sounds like it has been for the best in some way. But I also get the impression that it at times made you question yourself. Sorry if I'm wrong.

I am sorry you are dealing with that. I won't advocate for or against as it has to be a personal decision and it's going to be complicated for everyone who is in a situation that leads to even thinking about estrangement as an option. Therapy can help with figuring out a decision either way, and with learning to be happier in general regardless of a decision.

I try to deal with frustration by doing something nice for myself. But it often backfires. For example, I may try to go to a store I like, but then it's crowded and my anxiety just goes up, and more so, I end up not finding something I want. But sometimes that isn't the case, and I end up glad I went out because it helped in some small way. There was a time where I used to drink to deal with frustration and pretty much everything else. But, at least for the past six years, I have managed to not turn to that when it comes to dealing with life and the many frustrations that come with it.

Six years is a long time! Congratulations on that BIG WIN! I hate when I say I'll do something, make plans and then regret making them... but like you after the fact I know I'm going to be glad I went and participated. Practice definitely helps me with those situations.

For me, many of the "labels" I may have placed on myself possibly came from others. But I would accept them as well as expand on them in some way or another. And I may have managed, to some degree to stop letting certain ones define me, though others are definitely a work in progress. I want to say right now though that I very much want to apologize if that didn't make sense, but I am going to avoid doing so. I'm glad your cat's eye is doing well since the hair was removed.

@@RealLifeAlexa Yes, apologizing is a habit that I struggle with a lot. Considering what your 39th video was about, I don't want to make a promise that I won't say sorry again, but I will do try my best not to do so.

Well, it's not as unique as what you collect, but I have a video game collection. The thing is, I didn't exactly collect them on purpose. Growing up, video games were in some ways like toys meaning I would just play the game and end up losing the instruction manual and threw away the box altogether. But as I got older, and video games evolved into more story driven narratives, they became something more meaningful. There is a monetary value to my collection, but it the sentimental value that makes me continue playing and collecting video games as cliched as that may sound.

Video games are a big thing for many people. They definitely may have a better monetary value than my collection, but like you, the sentimental value is important to me, most especially when I bought one when with others, making memories. Some have more value to me than others, as with all things. I wish I had a different way of displaying them - especially if it prevented them from getting dusty!! LOL

I want to say that I am sorry in advance if I sound....rather bitter(?), but from my experience, whether I am nice or kind, it has always been treated as a bad thing. Like I have some kind of underhanded agenda for being that way or something when maybe I just do so because that is the way I wish others would treat me. But rarely did it ever feel reciprocated. What I would get was a feeling of being gaslit, though it was always hard to tell if that was really the case. Honestly, sometimes....I just wish I could be an asshole and not care. Because those type of people never feel guilt or shame or second guess themselves like I do. Anyway, I'm sorry for my nonsense rambling and I probably misunderstood your well thought out video. I will end this though by saying I'm glad your cat got that thing out of his eye and I hope he won't need any kind of surgery down the line.

      @RealLifeAlexa 4 āļŦāļĨāļēāļĒāđ€āļ”āļ·āļāļ™āļāđˆāļāļ™

I understand. For me, I have had that internal fight (and will likely have it again). At the end of the day, I do what I do because it's who I am and I try to live my values. It still sucks when people take advantage, or don't reciprocate, or a 'bad' person 'gets ahead'. I suppose it comes down to if we believe there is something more and in the long run being 'good' is always best, and I don't have the answer to that :( still... it definitely can feel like it would be easier if we could not care. But if you can't care about bad stuff, the good stuff is irrelevant because you won't be able to feel that either.

Consciously choosing to correct your (our) negative thoughts when catching them, is a powerful tool. I still use this method today to help myself get out of negative thoughts. I don't think full positivity all the time is my goal, I would like peace. Like, not negative, not positive, just balanced maybe?! You got this!

Your spring cleaning sounds like it all went well. I hope you have been able to find someone to help with moving the AC out. I am trying to work on decluttering. Sports in the UK sounds like it's taken even more serious than here in the States. Also, I hope your birthday month has been well.

I still have the AC... I can't decide if I want to try and get a repair shop to clean it or just get rid of it. BUT finally getting so much stuff out has sort of opened the doors to getting rid of some other stuff, so moving in the right direction :) Re sports, I think it's probably about the same all over, just some countries like different sports more. It's a good distraction and also a social event getting together with other fans. The psychology of sports fandom is pretty interesting LOL. Thank you! It has been a good month :)

Thank you for being willing to be so vulnerable. I know this wasn't easy but I admire you for sharing this. I'm very sorry for the pain you have had to live with for so long. I may be able to relate in some way. There has been some people who have caused me pain and I would ask the same question you did in that did they even realize how they hurt me. I'm not sure and at least in one case, the person claims to not remember. But I'm sorry as it sounds like your mother has never thought about the pain she has caused. Even though it does feel like the hurt never really goes away, I hope that it never overwhelms you or makes me you feel hopeless. Sorry if I said that wrong.

Thank you. I've come a long way from when the worst happened. Sometimes it weighs on my mind, but I am happy over all at this point. Taking each day and moment as it comes! I hope whatever you went through is something you can move past and still enjoy the other things in life. It doesn't make it ok, doesn't minimize what we experience. I feel like moving through it is my way of winning and not letting the bad win :)
