Come fly by drone alone, over the Rochdale canal and surrounds - Manchester UK city centre! A drone compilation snappily edited to some cool tracks.... Starts fast then is a bit more chilled after first track! Having a good play with Davinvi Resolve Studio 18.5 beta. Some nice new functions in it! This is a quick short before we publish the next video in the basin itself. We are currently waiting on CRT archives to grant permission for us to use some images from their archive. They are pretty busy but will hopefully be soon! From this video you can see the maintenance team has been hard at work on site (now Canal and Rivers Trust are officially custodians of the National Monument). Great...

I accidentally stumbled across the channel, and not only is the restoration of the basin 1st class , you wouldn't ever known it was in such a dilapidated state. I am from Wales so I don't know the area, But it's beautiful. The way you have tied the photography of the old and new shots is also remarkable. Just subbed 👍👍👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧🇬🇧

Terrific history, well done, takes me back to my work at BW in that area including part relining of the arm from the Peak Forest to the basin, fishing a 70 tonne crane out of the canal at the site of Tesco's bridge, first stage repairs to Foulridge river and its feeders including underground trek from the res to the junction in the feeders, happy days.

I have great admiration for all the men women and even children who as volunteers over the last few decades have lovingly restored our waterways. I think we all owe them a great debt of gratitude for what they all achieved. I just wish the government could see how important our lovely canal system is to the majority of the people.

What an absolutely brilliantly researched and presented video. Thank you very much for taking the time to edit and present this look at our local history. I remember playing around the lift in the 80's when it was abandoned, looking back now we used to play underneath the viaduct, which is where the weights used to hang. If we had realised then how much weight was in those counterbalance weights we may have thought twice about playing underneath them. 😳

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this upload, thanks for making it. Living in the area the lift was our playground in the 70's and during school holidays we would try and get as many rides up and down as possible off any boater that would let us onboard. thanks again, Regards Steve

Very informative and well put together. It is sadly obvious from your commentary that rebuilding some of the kilns to original working condition would be prohibitively expensive.

I am sure from childhood memories, that in the early 90s a mobile crane use to setup here and bungee jumping used to take place over the canal. Does anybody else remember this?

Really enjoy seeing so many folks enjoying the hobby. Here in the States, the heavy handed rules and cost to even get any required code repairs to any boilers has almost totally shut down the steam hobby. There's a few places that will still do that work, but at what cost? Any new make boilers can easily get into 6 figures, and even then there's a 3-5 years wait. A neighbor was quoted close to $79000. just to do a firebox and lower front tube plate! I know that it's a lot of work, but what are they getting paid per hour? If your in that business, one would expect that they have the tools and required skills to accomplish this work in a reasonable amount of hours!
