Cigar Review La Aroma Edicion Especial
Cigar Review La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial
When Smoked: December, 2024
Obtained from: single purchase from local shop
Rested/aged 1+ months in my humidor
Size: Churchill (sort of) 6-3/4 inches x 49
Approximate cost: US$11 (about US$9 in box of 25)
See ratings below
This video is my review of the La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial. I’ve had a few of these over the past couple of years and have enjoyed them, but never got around to reviewing it until now.
The La Aroma brand is one of those “parallel” Cuban-New World brands. Actually the Levin family, who owns the Ashton brand, secured the US market rights to the La Aroma de Cuba line. If you are in another part of the world, the line is called “La Aroma de Caribe.”
While the La Aroma de Cuba brand has been around for a couple decades now, the current versions of their cigars were re-blended a few years ago and are currently made by My Father Cigars. They all feature My Father characteristics both in construction (3-seam cap and entubo rolling) and what I call the classic My Father flavor profile.
But back to the Edicion Especial…Let’s start with construction - Although the band is very cool, the construction on this stick was…I’m being charitable here…not good. The wrapper is lumpy, veiny and covers some really inconsistent tobacco packing. One of my big turn-offs in a cigar is soft, mushy spots - and this stick had a few of them.
Draw was pretty good but there was considerable canoeing and frequent touch ups were needed. I also pointed out in the video that a bit of wrapper came off with the secondary band. I’ve seen a lot worse, but it hints at sloppy rolling.
The flavor profile is good. Very pleasant medium body with hints of vanilla and a touch of sweetness, but with the My Father characteristic hint of spice.
I wish I could have rated this cigar higher than 7.75/10 but that’s what it merits. If you want to explore the La Aroma line, I’d start with the flagship La Aroma de Cuba, Mi Amor, and Reserva. But if you should come across the Edicion Especial in a sampler, I wouldn’t shy away from it.

Have you ever smoked a Plasencia cigar? Even if you said "no," there's a very god chance that you have. The Plasencia family cigar business is relatively low profile but here are some interesting facts: - Nearly 3/4 of New World cigar manufacturers buy at least some of the leaf they put into their cigars from Plasencia farms. - Plasencia's rolling operation produces 45 million cigars per year -...

From Seed to Leaf - How your cigar is made
You pronounce it S spirit two Great cigar! Great review!
I seem to find several cigars that I don’t feel are worth the money. The looks don’t bother Me, it’s the bad draw and terrible burns. I try different cuts thinking it may be that, but not much difference. Do You not use your tent anymore?-Eddie
Hey Eddie, thanks for watching and your comment. I shot a review this past weekend in the Cigar Hut, it will be posted this week. Finally gave in to winter!
@ I have an old camping tent that I put a propane heater and 4 camp chairs in. My Buddy comes over on Saturdays and we sit out there and smoke back to back cigars, usually til 1:30 in the morning. One of your older tent videos was the inspiration.-Eddie
Can I claim- perhaps controversially- that I've ben disappointed too many times lately by some "premium" brands...enough that I've reverted to the lesser or non-premium brands? I mean biggies too. But I've never been let down by others- in the same breath. Surely DEI has not entered the space? I smoke on average about 50 a month- conservatively, so my budget had to come into play and I'm rarely going to lay down the $9-10 a stick like I used to. Deals can be found, and I'm hesitant to drop more than about $6 a stick nowadays- except for a special occasion box. I'd rather be irritated on the cheap... 😅 As always- YMMV.
Thanks for the comment - I agree with you, paying $9+ and having a poor experience is a turn-off for me too.
Love this channel
Anthony, thanks so much for your comment. The channel is a "labor of love" for me, and it's great to get positive feedback.
Well....I do know that celebrities for the most part are stupid AF, if I'm being kind...sure they got the money to buy trendy stuff- but it's pretty superficial to me. Lately- I could not care less- I like so many I could never pick a favorite. Lately I've been sampling some Raymond Pages stuff based on price, and I'm really, really liking them. The great thing about now is there are so many good options, there's no right or wrong answer. I smoked a La Perla for breakfast, gonna go enjoy an Alec Bradley for lunch. Gives us lots to yap about too, don't it! So long as I got a full humi- I'm a fortunate, blessed guy. Don't need undue stress! Enjoy what you got gents!
Great comment, Tom - thanks for watching.
Everyday would be Zino Grand Scepter and fancy would be any of the Byron 21st century series-best I’ve ever had by far
Davidoff Grand Cru is my favorite that I can reliably find in brick and mortars. Of course the Atabey is great. AF Casa Cuba isn't the easiest to find though inexpensive.
Those are great choices
My real answer would be the Fuente Chateau Sun Grown, my fancy answer would be Opus X Angels Share. Thanks for the content, keep it smokey brother
Good choices, thanks for watching!
I'd be forced to reluctantly answer Montecristo No. 2 (I'm not American so Cubans are easy for me to get). It's just one of those cigars that manages to blow me away every time I have one. I wish I had something more interesting as my favorite than the most popular cigar in the entire Cuban catalogue, but I guess it's popular for a reason.
Good choice, it's a classic cigar.
I don't stick to just 1 cigar, in my cabinet humidor there is a variety of cigars. The next cigar I smoke will not be the one I smoked last.
One of my favorite cigars is the La aroma de cuba mi amor. Great budget stick with amazing flavor.
Image? Seriously? No way. I'd go with my favorite cigar (which happens to come in at less than $10.00 a stick) pure and simple. Cheers!🥂 ☮
There’s times I’ve been done with cigars with over 3” remaining but I’ve also use Ciccar brand cigar holder when I like the taste and wanna nub it.
Perdomo 10th Anniversary Maduro in Epicure.
Everyday cigar would probably be the Drew Estate UC 10. Fancy cigar probably Padron 1926 Maduro.
Thank you for your in-depth explanation of all that information!
Smoking one now! Been smoking cigars for 5 months and so far this is my favorite stick!
Man I love Fuente sungrown, it seems fuente does sungrown better than anyone else, I smoke a box of the Chateau sungrown a month, great video keep it smokey brother
Thanks for the comment!
Me too, i'm a mostly full bodied maduro cigar smoker (olmec maduro, Le caréme, MB3, Bellas Artes maduro). I've got a box of these coming since i want to try to smoke a connecticut here and there. I love the Undercrown maduro and the 10, so figured I'd try the shade version. Try both Perdomo Champagne and the My Father connecticut, very tasty cigars in their own right. Cheers.
Good one, Jim. But when you talk about "body" are you actually referring to nicotine strength? Body and strength are different categories. Just sayin'. Cheers!🥂 ☮
That's a good point. There have been one or two reviews where I differentiated between them, but I missed on this one and should have mentioned it. Thanks for watching and your comments!
Great review
Thanks for watching!
Nothing to do with humidity in tobacco.
This is an amazing cigar!! Developing flavors, great draw, great burn line, great smoke output. Love it! A little age on it and it’s even better!:)
Thanks for the video. Smoking a foundation tabernacle in lancero at the moment
My go to’s are priced between $6 and $14
Perdomo is the ONLY sticks in my box!
Very well explained good sir! Amazing!
I like your brand reviews, can you do one on aladino? Would like to see where you think they fit in the cigar world currently, if you have experience with them. P.s. comments are turned off on your new video
Padomo the best gars.. 10 anniversary is a special gar
I enjoyed one of these on my birthday, back in September. Very nice stick. I did have to touch it up a couple of times though, as I did get an uneven burn. I still very much liked it, though. 👍Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers! Merry Christmas! 🎄🎅
Man Perdomo cigars are point on and great cigars. Nick knows how to do it right. Perdomo cigars are my top cigars that I go to. As I always say “ I never had a bad Perdomo cigar”. Nice review Jim. Your new name is throwing me off lol, I’m use to cigars cigars cigars. Lol
Perdomo man here.Great smoke.I Love em😊
Have you had the 20th anniversary sungrown? IMO, that's a better cigar. On a livestream a few years back, Nick Perdomo said the 20th anniversary sungrown was his fav cigar they make. Merry Christmas!
Mine usually stay around 50 / 60 degrees in my basement in humidor has singles and boxes 🗃️ in tubadore. Humidity 69 all day everyday boveda! Love it
I LOVE the Monticello, but Holts pricing on it is goofy. $169 for a double toro currently (gordo) $259 for a toro. $129 for robustos. Why? Anyways, I buy them in bundles and it’s worth it, I’d love a box but their pricing of them feels like a scam.
It's called a sale! They tend to rotate the sale vitola on a regular basis. Same with the Master Blends 3.
I bought some cigars and have stored them in different humidor bags and humidor. I put 5 arturo fuente Chateau king t in a very small humidor bag from Aj fernandez. I put a 72% boveda. Had them there for like 2 weeks. 3 of the cigars inside the tubos were they were stored got some blue on the wrapper. I scratched it off with my nail and I can't see something inside the binder. It was blue. Not plume, but it has to be mold. 2 of the 5 cigars had nothing and I stored them in my bigger humidor. Do I have to throw the cigars with very very little mold or can I smoke them as soon as possible? It was a little bit mold above the foot and below the head. ???
Thanks for the honest opinion
Great tips! I committed every sin that he mentions when I first started in this hobby. A few more tips I wish I knew earlier in my cigar journey: (A) Learn all you can about humidification. I couldn't understand why I loved a particular cigar one day and found it harsh the next time around. Try storing your cigars using 2-way packs in 65% RH and 69% RH, for example, and see which you like better. I also learned that airtight tupperdores (eg EZY IP67 brand, etc) are so much easier than wooden humidors. The latter requires "seasoning" every so many months. Actually, there's no reason why your 1st humidor cannot be a Ziplok bag. A HumidiMeter is a must-have tool. Theoretically, if only using 2-way packs, no need to buy a digital hygrometer (never an analog). But if you do decide to use one, you must calibrate it the day you get it and every 6 months thereafter. (B) Keep a journal or spreadsheet on each cigar brand / line / vitola you smoked and what experience you had. You can also get more detailed such as website and date bought from, price paid, etc. (C) If you're early in the hobby, keep your expenses to a minimum by only spending about $2 to $4 per stick when they are on sale. There's no rush to smoke the more expensive stuff yet (or at all) no matter what some cigar snobs may tell you. Welcome to the world of cigars. Good luck!
I've not tried this brand before, but I find it rather interesting that they don't label what leaf it wrapped in, though. 🤔Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers!
I bought a 5 pack of both wrappers when they first came out. Wasn't overly impressed with either. They've been resting in the humidor for over a year now. Thanks for reminding me, Jim. I'll have to give them another chance.
I really like the Claro for a daily, but it’s too pricy in my opinion
I agree with title.. I need some of the horticulture 58% ?? Boveda packs
My jaw dropped when you said it was $80 for the box, In Australia you pay almost $2000 per KG in Tax for Tobacco So this box is $660 😅
Great construction great burn line. Good smoke output. But the flavor was kinda boring. Felt great in my hands. I can see where some would love it. But its not my style. Average, good source of vitamin N
I've not tried this one yet, but I'll have to add it my list. 👍Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers!
One of my fave Conni’s! Have you ever tried a La Palina Blondie? Fantastic!!
I didn’t care for it Kind of left a floral after taste. That’s just my experience
It's released every January
Great review. Thank you
Hey Jim! No more cigars cigars cigars channel?
