What are your cigar memories?
มุมมอง 1182 หลายเดือนก่อน
This video is about memories - specifically "cigar memories" I have to admit, I have a hard time remembering what I had for lunch yesterday. But when it comes to cigars, I have some very clear and vivid memories of some cigars I smoked - where I was, the weather, the cigar, and so forth. In this video I give a few examples, but let me know your most vivid cigar memories. As you can see from my ...
All About Lanceros (plus six to try)
มุมมอง 4062 หลายเดือนก่อน
Lanceros aren't top sellers in cigar stores compared to the more popular sizes, but they do provide a nice change-of-pace experience for both new and seasoned cigar smokers. Generally, Lanceros are 7 to 7-1/2 inches long and have a slim 38-42 ring gauge. In this video I smoke the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Lancero - the Double Ligero is one of the most popular blends in the LFD line and t...

It's called "Too Well to Work Today" Hope you enjoy it! Back to cigars in the next video, I promise.
Amazing First Puffs!

For me one of the best parts of smoking a cigar are those first few puffs. When the draw, flavor and smoke production all come together just right, it can be a memorable thing. So I searched my memory to come up with some of my favorite first puff experiences. I'd also like to get all of your thoughts on the first puffs you remember most.

In fact, Noel Rojas bills himself as the "King of Small Gauge Cigars," and the largest company offering is 50 ga...
Overlooked "Cinderella cigars"

It seems like every cigar company has at least one "Cinderella cigar," a good cigar that gets overlooked and lost in the shuffle of the huge product lines many cigar companies now have. They come out with new cigars constantly, promote them for a month or two, and then move on to another one. That has resulted in some good cigars being overlooked because they aren't as new or pretty as others i...

How These Cigar Bands Revolutionized the Cigar Business It’s hard to believe, but a simple strip of paper (the cigar bands we pretty much take for granted today) revolutionized the entire cigar business. 70/70 condition produce 78grains of moisture, which is "ideal"? So when temperature is 85F, RH should be at 43% in order to mimic 70/70 ideal moisture, is that suitable for the cigar?

Another way to get a variety of smokes to sample is to visit your local cigar shop and hit that box with the discounted cigars. Whenever a box is almost empty and they need to replace it with something else, the last few sticks go into the clearance box. There's nothing wrong with the cigars, they just need the shelf space. I've picked up high-rated sticks from Aladino, My Father, Oliva, Punch, and AJ Fernandez from those boxes.

For me, the biggest difference comes in the first month as I adjust the cigar to my desired humidity. I've found that most stores keep their cigars around 70% but I prefer my Nicaraguan and Honduran cigars at a much lower humidity, low 60s for Nicaraguan and mid 60s for Honduran. If I burn them straight away, they tend to taste a little off and burn crooked. After a month they hit my desired humidity and burn how I like them. After that, it takes years to bring further improvement.

I tried one yesterday ($28 + tax + they nag you for tips at the place that sells them). Very smooth. I only wanted to smoke half but smoked nearly all of it. I noticed the great aroma also. The slightly smaller Toro might be a touch better but this was close to ideal.

This is a cigar that flies under the radar and can be purchased at deeply discounted prices, on a regular basis. I keep a box of the Churchill or Torpedo on hand at all times. Flavorful, no nicotine kick, never a construction problem. A great cigar. My question is whether you are ever given a bad time for smoking a cigar at the beach in CA. I am a native of CA, left 25 years ago and avoid spending much time there for fear of locals having a stroke at the sight of someone enjoying a cigar in public. Is my fear unfounded?

Man, you must have gotten a bad one. I'm enjoying one now, and it's burning perfectly. Very smooth for a full-bodied cigar. Leathery, and then some sweetness starts to develop. Some pepper, but not overpowering. I think it's a very good cigar, and it's had some lofty ratings just about everywhere.

My recent experience with Cuban cigars doesn't justify the price tag. I can get Tatuaje cigars that tasted as good or better than any Cuban I've ever had, at around 8$ a piece.... so... yeah, I can't justify 60 dollars for a mediocre cigar. I've also heard that the quality of Cuban cigars today is not what it used to be. I'd say after smoking a Cohiba in July, I can see that. I had a Padron the day before I smoked a Cohiba. No comparison. Padron smoked the Cohiba, no pun intended.

    • @Alexander-dt8sk

Couldn’t agree more. The Tatuaje is a great every day smoke and for $8-10 a stick they’re a steal. And yes Padrons are superb.
