Going With The Flo
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 ก.ย. 2013
We try to enjoy life the best we can. We have had a plan for years to cut back and travel once our kids move out and now that time is getting close!!
So join us on on our Adventures while we learn more on sailing and then one day sail away down in the Caribbean and then wherever else the winds may take us !
Leaving GulfPort FL, more South We GO!!!
We restock the boat again and get out of town! Stop at Anna Marie Island for a week before running south from Hurricane HELENE

Dang, how many knots were you guys traveling?
Not that fast, we averaged 7.2knots this sail
Only thing missing is just sailing alongside of you guys
One-day you will
I used to take my lab, Kilo, to that same little beach in blind pass and it was his favorite place! They can run up and down it then take a swim.
Yeah, was a great little dog Beach, I played with a few pups while there !!
Mine is a 1975 model but it's the same layout as yours. It was essentially abandoned though the previous owners did pay slip fees for a couple of years beyond the last time they visited the boat. It is complicated story but I have ended up making more "work-arounds" and temporary repairs than seemed reasonable. I hired a diver to clean up the bottom and let me know how things looked... and he said that the propeller shaft strut is broken off from the hull. Sheesh. There is not a repair yard or travel lift within 40 miles from where the boat is. I do have the Sea Tow unlimited towing package but the boat yard I am trying to get to is over 100 miles SW of the where the boat is. Everyday is a new adventure. As much as I hate the thought of it, I may have to go with getting towed towards Houston. I am trying to get it to Corpus Christi or Rockport, TX so I can do the work myself. Ten days on the hard will be enough for me to get the bottom cleaned and painted and replace the packing gland on the prop shaft, maybe change some of the thru-hull fittings and... the other 100 things that will show up that I never imagined were going to show up. Y'alls boat is looking great. Can't believe that y'all splurged on the range and oven package but it is beautiful.
Thanks , she been a lot of work and still making us work lol we looked for a used oven but for the money we decided to just buy new, didn't want to worry about it breaking on us . Congrats on the boat , sounds like some work ahead for you but it will be worth it in the end . The strut bolts on, is it the bolts that snapped? If so you may could get a diver to help replace them in the water. Go ahead and get towing from boat US , then get one to tow you as far as they will. Then call the other to tow the rest of the way !!
@@GoingWith-TheFlo Diver didn't mention anything about bolts. He thinks that it is glassed in to the hull itself. Sure would make it easy if it was only bolts to replace. I was thinking that the entire strut was made of bronze or a similar alloy. In the photo on your boat you can see the brazing/weld seam at the top of the strut. If I could dive I would likely just put in 4 bolts to secure the strut and then repair that work on the hard. I don't have any drilling tools that work underwater but having some pilot holes to line up with under the cockpit and then to drill down from the interior through the dull and into the strut seems like it might work. OTOH, if it didn't then I'd four holes below the water line!! Thanks for your insight. I've never seen the bottom of this boat, yet.
@aa3nk it is bronze, ours is bolted . Right in front of the aft bed we have a opening in the floor and under it are the 4 bolts to hold it to the boat. Maybe not factory on ours, but the strut does sail gs41
@@GoingWith-TheFlo Ok, I know where those access plates are in the aft cabin. When you look down on it, you are seeing nuts, washers, and a backing plate, right? If so that would mean that bolts are fed through the base plate that is at the top of the strut. On your boat that base plate is white and probably sealed with 3M 5200 marine sealant. Can you estimate what size the bolts are, i.e. 1/4" or maybe larger? Well, actually, if you put a socket on the nut the bolt will be the next step down in size so the socket is likely to be a 1/2" or a 5/8" On yours it's evident that the strut was welded onto the strut base plate and I think that is likely what is going to have to happen to mine. Thanks for you help with this, I am getting a mental image of how it all comes together from your descriptions and the divers comments about the strut being cleanly separated from the hull.
If you have the fresh water capacity look into running fresh water only in the head. No calcium build up and also won't smell. Enjoy your videos.
Thank you !! I wish we could, our boat only carries 60 gallons of fresh water, we struggle keeping it full
Head work blows ! Been there, got the postcard, don't want to do it again.... but we know we will. My boat currently in St Pete, Tampa bay at the municipal. Leaving back dirt-side tomorrow or I would invite you for a beer. Family holidays and then heading to the keys and eventually Bahamas late February or early March. Hope to meet up and have a cold one some day. Wife insists I have an ice-maker running for special occasions. :)
We had a ice maker but the space and power just wasn't worth it to us, Kasi found some small ice trays and been good with just those . Thanks but we already left, we a few weeks behind on vids from real time Hope to catch up one day, there a link to our Facebook in the video description, give us a follow and then it's real time updates , maybe one day we will be in the same spot !
I love a Moe's bbq bushwhacker with a peanut butter whiskey topper.
Just a plain old bushwhacker for me!
Team work makes the dream work. Love watching yalls adventures.
Thank you !! 😊
Glad your doing well brother
Thanks, hope everything good your way !!
Harold has the perfect song for this . Love seeing you enjoying your adventure!
Thank you and yes he does!!
Wow, you'd pay €120 a night for berth only in southern UK. Some lovely places you're visiting. I'd love some citronella, it seems worse now than before we returned to the UK.
This marina was extremely cheap !
Bootiful beach. Hope what you did to the chain makes it last longer than ours. That was a quick find on the diesel leak. Great episode ⛵️😎🥰
Thanks , hate it because it's new chain.
Its the greatest feeling when you finally let the lines go. A day that I will never forget. Well done, it takes a lot of courage to believe you can do it ⛵️😎🥰
Yeah, was a day I won't forget and a choice I'm glad we've made!
Man you are flying!!look’s amazing to be there
Was great sailing The other day, most of it was above 7 knots
Looks like you two are progressing right along.
Thank you, we trying to !
<3 y'all are so funny
Lol
😊
⛵
Good luck
Thanks
Keeping it real, really relaxing to follow you two!Another good trip from Carabelle. That was so storm you went through.❤Thanks for sharing .
Thank you !! 🍻⛵
Been in Bluewater many times with my cousin
Hey just found you guys on Facebook,I know Robins over here in Alabama.I’m in Foley and have family in port St Joe.
Robbins a great guy!! Port St Joe one of our favorite places ! We lived in Foley for a long time. It's changed alot needless to say lol
@@GoingWith-TheFlo I know it’s crazy in Foley to Gulf Shores, traffic is insane Enjoying your channel,it’s chill and totally realistic about living on a sailboat.I also have a Gulfstar but mine is A 47 motor sailor,Hurricane victim in Florida.I know some friends in key west maybe I can put you in touch,I met them in a local boatyard and they rented from my mom while the were here.
@@markbuskens6070 thank you! We are a few weeks behind on vids, we have already passed key West in Marathon now getting ready to hit the Bahamas
Where are you guys from
We actually from Pensacola, on the way to the Bahamas now and will be back in Pensacola next fall
@ that’s awesome ! I’m in Gulf Shores , look forward to seeing some updates on the trip.
You should make some food videos. Cooking with kasi 😂
Heck we'd need her to do more cooking for that !!
dang! what's her ring recipe?
She doesn't remember, it was one she found in Google. Wish she could find it again because they were pretty good!!!
Ya'll do good. Cruising on a sailboat is a learning experience.
Thanks and yes, everyday learning something new for sure!
Hey guys we are in south Florida this week until 11/4 if you all need anything even if it’s just a drink let us know
Thanks! How far south? We actually in the keys right now
@@GoingWith-TheFlo MIAMI
@ we are staying Miami but we are going to Key West this week
@@SAILINGCHAOS-1 we will be in key West Friday
My wife and I sail many miles/lived aboard our Gulfstar 41 for a long time and I will tell you this, that boat is built like a tank and will take you anywhere you wish to go. Just watch the weather and plan accordingly and you will be fine!!
We hope to live in it for a along time as well, thanks!! So far we love the boat, we are in the Florida keys on it now !
It's not easy getting gas when you're cruising but its a great story. What job does Kassie do that she can work wherever you are? Great video, thanks
Neither of us work anymore
Congratulations on the views for this episode 🎉
It happens about every 3 months, TH-cam recommends it , pick up subscribers and then they don't recommend again for awhile, it's weird lol
Fabulous sunset or was it a sunrise 😂 Good size Tuna. Congratulations on the 100nm passage. Poor flying fish. Stunning beach 😍
That's the problem with cloudy weather, damned batteries! Close the hatches and cockpit cover comes down and makes you even hotter 😳. 122°, jeez!!! Refrigeration is a cruisers nightmare. How was the Hookah? You could do with a pully to change those outboards 😅
Yeah, been a battle with the batteries, still dealing with rain and clouds. The fridge sucked, but we do have 3 of them on the boat lol Love the hookah!! Been money very well spent ! Yeah, outboards by myself is a nightmare
Hi Kasi & Justin <3
Hello 👋⛵⛵
I was worried about the hurricane. Glad y'all didn't get far enough to get messed up.😅
Yeah we good, we actually in the keys now and had to deal with the last 2 of them .
Love y'all brother Keep an eyeball on the tide!!
Tides get me all the time lol Hope everything good ! Missing you buddy!
Great adventure. Hope the hurricane missed ya'll.
Thank you !
Hope you're still up in the panhandle this week. Fair winds.
Unfortunately no, this gonna be 2 storms we've had to deal with now. But we just anchored in a hopefully good spot to ride out this one. Thankfully we were able to run from it and are south in the keys
@@GoingWith-TheFlo Glad to hear you ran right through. I live in Orlando and was supposed to head north for hurricane restoration work today but my plans got cancelled on Saturday. Good luck down there. I hear Grenada, Bonaire, Curacao, Aruba and Panama are nice this time of year.
Hope you are in a safe place today. Good to see you left
We are all safe! Ran up into the Okeechobee Waterway about 22 miles inland
Where are you guys ridimg out the storm?
We are in fort Myers area now up the river.
@GoingWith-TheFlo Stay safe and keep us updated when you can, please. I've got my fingers crossed, but this storm looks pretty wicked.
Yea late summer is stormy as all get out, been crazy last month & dealing with low charge on solar. Guess we are in the same boat lol
The low batteries is probably the worst part. A few more weeks and weather should be good!
That would be a Bonita. Best to use for bait.
I hope you don’t run into the big storm coming
We trying to decide now on where to ride it out and gonna go wherever tomorrow
Well you either need to go much further south or back to Pensacola but I would get out. That area gets nailed
go west it's best.
@@cheyrlschwind2783 we got as far inland as we could. Think we in a ok spot to ride this out
@@russell3380 we went inland about 25 miles up the river . Hopefully it works out for us
Thats crazy. Stay safe yall.
Some nights are hard some are easy, we will !
Awesome, guys! Love seeing this 👍
Thanks !! Glad to see you doing good as well !
Congratulations so happy for you both. I know you have worked so hard for this! Love following you all
Thanks! Like the new channel name! We been trying to keep up but wifi hard out here lol
Glad y’all got to hang out and happy you got over to Shell Islands beach. It’s a magical place. We’ll see y’all soon in a more southern latitude I have no doubt!
Thanks, glad we made it out and thank you again for everything! Kasi still talking about that burger you made lol
good luck you 2 !
Thank you!! ⛵
Boringgggg
It's because we old lol
It's because we old lol
Next addition is an outboard crane so you can stop fooling with your Johnson!
😆 Yeah Kasi wants a hoist for the outboards.
I like the rawness of the video. But curious what happened when you took your dive with the jellies to clean your bottom? Were you successful? This is Mama Carol
Got it mostly done that time, current was really strong . But thankfully no jelly strings!!!
I know exactly what you mean. We’ve been dodging storms with lots of lightning lately. At Key Biscayne right now. Moving north tomorrow
Ive been watching, it's great to see y'all out again and the new boat looks like a huge upgrade!! Yeah, I hate lightning ⚡ Y'all be safe and we'll see y'all in the keys in October hopefully!
