I wanted to solve 8A^2 + 6A + 5 I got: -3[Plus or Minus] i times the Square Root of 31 ALL divided by 8 Then, on my TI-83 Plus, I typed in: (-3+i(31))/8 This gave me the answer: -375+.69597054..." I have never seen the plus sign in the answer. What does that mean?

lemonade so beyable you put the left bound on the left side of the point at which the parabola crosses the x-axis. Then the right bound is placed on the right side of the intersection of the x-axis. If you are finding the intersection on the left, do NOT cross the axis of symmetry when placing the right bound on the right side (which is below) the intersection. Place the left bound anywhere above the left intersection. For the right intersection, do NOT cross the axis of symmetry when placing the left bound. It is the same as finding the left intersection but the left bound is placed below the intersection and the right bound is placed above. What you are doing is marking which intersection you want your calculator to give you the coordinates of. They are boundaries and there should only be one intersection on the x-axis inside these boundaries. This is why you place two different sets of boundaries.
