I've been to Gabbs a couple of times, the first time the grocery was still open. It's been 12 years since my wife and I were there, I have a vlog on my channel from September 2013. The algorithm brought me by, I'm now subbing.

N. NV native here. Been visiting Gabbs since the 70s. My second favorite small NV town (IMO Caliente beats it by a whisker :). I travel from Fernley to AZ occasionally and I bypass the Walker Lake/Hawthorne Slow zone by traveling through Gabbs on my way south. Even though it adds about 10 miles, it's much faster. Have taken the Gabbs/Tonopah Pole line road (very well maintained gravel/dirt road) which is much shorter (but dusty and sometimes slow :). If anyone ever paves this Pole Road, it'll be my next favorite route. I can remember when The General store and the Gas station were always open (almost ran out of petrol when they first stopped selling gas :(. I still stop into the bar for a soda pop In a can, when I can :). Beautiful little town, I hope there's a revival someday. Love the NV open roads. Great video. Thanks

I got pulled over in Nevada on hwy 95 for doing 140mph back in 1990 when it was 55mph. Thought I was going to get arrested, but I only received a waste of fuel ticket for $15 that didn't even show up on the record. A great state for speed.

The mine produced Magnesite. The imported magnesite from China in the 1980s-1990s forced the mine to close. I was a customer of the mine. Tom Carney

I was on a NV Hwy Dept Survey crew that did the preliminary suvey for the road from Gabbs to Berlin. We stayed in Gabbs for about 2 mo while doing the survey I believe about in1970.

Wow Fernley has grown up. I lived in Fernley Nevada from 87 to 89. I moved to Lemoore California but when I lived in Fernley, there might’ve been 1200 people maybe and now it’s 25,000 it was very small town and when I moved to Lemoore, California, they only had the population of 8000 and now about 24,000. I became a volunteer firefighter for the city of Lemoore strictly volunteer no paid people on our department from the chief to the 34th man, none of his get paid we don’t stay at the fire house. We will respond from where we’re at straight to the files jump on the truck. Nevada had an air siren that used to go off every day at noon the city, I was a firefighter and had the same thing, but it was for fires, and you heard it I worked when I first moved there at the truck inn as a maintenance man by my understanding, it’s no longer there and then from there I went to work for B&C builders supply in Reno and I’m not sure if they are still there either once I left Fernley Nevada I never looked back. I got a bunch of troubles I had to leave Some very bad people were looking for me😂 I was only 23 years old and now I’m 60😊

Looks wonderful like my kind of places. History and quiet places. That's why I go to the desert when it is cold. Like an old retired sheep man I used to work for. We used to visit his working friends. Then the mountains in the summer. Just to fish tell stories around the fire .

there is also the Fernley Veterans Memorial Cemetery it is huge.

Kingsbury is a LOT better than it was when I first went up in 1981. There was one switchback that 2 cars could not pass at speed.

You could probably add some local facts like stores and churches etc. Nice brief tour!
