The VW Bus is the toughest most versatile vehicle ever made.
My name is Dan, I’m an ex-oilfIeld mechanic from Alberta and I have been living in Brazil for 5 years. I have found, fixed and exported multiple vintage Volkswagen buses as a hobby during my time here, and now I am ready to start sharing the experience with you- the struggle and the adventure.
We meet new people- strange ones and nice ones, we make deals-some amazing deals and some real bad rip offs, we build buses- some we build up to be completely beautiful, others we mercifully destroy. But most of all we have fun- and that is what you will be seeing here- us having a ton a fun with these old buses- and I'm not talking about a Sunday cruise to a car show-we believe that these Buses are the toughest and most versatile vehicles ever produced, and it's our job to not only show you what they are capable of but also use them for a greater good.
So join us on the adventure as we find, fix, and ship these majestic Buses!!

When does a new video come out?
What is the model name of that particular filing cabinet? I am wondering about that style of locking bar.
How do I contact you?? 😊
FWIW: That is a cabinet designed to hold IBM style punch cards from the dawn of the computer age. They are well made and frequently available cheaply because the age of the punch card has long gone: Somewhat like library catalog cabinets (another option with smaller drawers) I personally have a 10 drawer punch card style cabinet that I store hardware in.
How does one get in touch with you?

Szép, alapos, precíz munka, nagy elismerésem,

Hello Alan, this channel is based on VW buses in Brazil- here the split windows were produced all the way up till 1975!!

Looks nice! The long side panel behind the driver's door is never perfect - always "wavy" even on original buses. 👍
True enough!!

Thanks!
The front headlights are from a beetle and they have the wrong light Pattern.

Also, I'm glad to see a Brazilian doing this and not a foreigner going down there and doing it. How much is shipping to the United States west coast?
I'm actually Canadian but I've been living here for a long time. The VW bus restoration community down here is very large. We help each other with finding good buses, tow trucks, parts, and everything in between. There are a whole pile of whatsapp groups that are buzzing daily with beetles, buses, and parts being bought and sold, and in my region there is a different classic car event/swap meet/BBQ going every weekend. Probably the same where you are in California I would imagine. The fun is being part of the community- if I hadn't bought a bus years ago I don't know what I would be doing down here today!!
@@MetalSmithBrazil wow. Crazy. Your Portuguese is good. I just thought you were a light Brazilian. Jaaa. There are a lot of Brazilians here in San Diego. I don’t know how the VW scene is in parts of Canada but I could imagine in Brazil where there are a ton of VWs. I think Latin America in general has a good relationship with VW but especially in Mexico and Brazil where they were produced for many years. A lot of my followers on IG are from Brazil. I think because I follow Henrique and his build on TH-cam. That dude does crazy auto projects. We’ll keep up the good work and look forward to more VW videos.
Pretty cool dude. Glad you decided to start this business for folks in places like USA who can’t afford these buses anymore at the price they go for. I think a lot of people just want the bus and don’t care about it being authentic. I guess at least I don’t. I would love to cruise a bus like this in this condition. I could never afford a real bus like this so I would be happy with something like this restored so well. Unfortunately I can’t afford at these prices either but maybe one day. In the mean time I will restore what I already own and that is my 1969 German Kombi Westfalia. And then when I’m done with that I will get on the 1965 bug. Keep up the great work dudes.
There are definitely a ton of people who just want a properly restored bus for a fair price- something that is solid to road trip in or enjoy on the weekend, and that’s what we offer. Good luck with your westy restoration, it looks like a beauty of a bus!!
@@MetalSmithBrazil Thank you so much, I appreciate it. I will also be sure to share your info with people. My dream will be to one day be able to afford one of your busses or maybe buy an unrestored one off of you. What is your Instagram?
@@SanDiego_VDubLife @metalsmithbrazil on instagram. If you're interested in an unrestored one right now they are gong for 8-10k USD(if they are in reasonable shape). I'm not sure how much shipping to San Diego would be, but if you're interested send me an email at info@metalsmith.com.br and I can send you a quote.
Heck yeah dude. Awesome
Thanks man, we have a lot of fun with these old split windows.
This is one my to-do list for sure
Thank you for the videos I just bought a75 split from Brazil I’ve gone over it from stem to stern with a cheap business card magnet and it stick well the seller built a great bus but his quality control before shipping needs improvement small items needed to be addressed and finished wipers bus shipped with the no lock on the cargo door wrong intake manifold and muffler but being a bus guy I was able to address the issues. I got 150 pictures along the way so buying a bus from Brazil worked out for me. Please keep the videos coming
Hey Michael, thats great to hear. The quality of restorations in general is improving year over year down here- of course good communication with the workshop that is restoring your bus is paramount. Glad to hear you had an overall good experience 👍

Bless you. Chin up, don’t stop doing it right. Brazil is different to Britain, things are rotten over here.
Hey Charlie, thanks for the encouraging words! Britain is certainly passing through a difficult time- Still a beautiful country though!! We're all in this together.
You don’t use engine seals in Brazil ? Don’t the engine run hot ?
Hey kewster, thanks for watching. Which engine seal are you referring to? The one that goes around the engine?
@@MetalSmithBrazil yes the foam one on the backside, closest to the bumper, here in Europe it’s a must to keep the engine cooled. Ps thanks for the videos, nice to se the Brazilian busses up close 👍
Ah yes- your right it's missing that seal! I will get one on there, thanks for taking the time to point it out 👍
Great Video
Love the video how can I buy one from you
Nice video keep up the good work i love this channel
Thanks we have a lot of good stuff coming up!!
So I just found your channel and I love to see old ACVW's being restored as I own several myself, but Ive only owned German VW's. I have considered buying Brazilian Buss' before but I really am leary of the scenario of when it might need parts say for instance brakes. I know that when I need brake parts for my German 71 bay which has disc brakes up front from the factory. the aftermarket suppliers have them. , but a 71 Brazilian Split still had drums up front. So from where, and for what do you order to make sure you get the right parts for the bus? thank you (Asking as a potential Brazilian split owner)
Great question- the front brake drums(for example) are from a 64' to 67' type 2 bus. How do I know this? I have the Brazilian Split Window parts catalog(which you can download for free) which has exploded views of every assembly in the Bus along with the part numbers. In this case the front brake drums are part number 211405615. You can put that in google(or call your local parts supplier and give them this number) and you are good to go. These buses are a mix of split and bay parts, I will need to do a video(or two!!) on this subject in the near future. Any other questions feel free to reach out info@metalsmith.com.br cheers.
@@MetalSmithBrazil I think a video on this would be great! I'm sure I'm not the only one that has had reserve about the brazilian buss because of this. You know a Splitty is a Splitty and I love the narrower hatch and corner windows on pre 64 German and Brazilian buss'. thanks for responding and I'll be looking forwardto that video explaining the parts "issue" :)
