Are you comparing a Point Guard Tyler Kolek to a Shooting Guard Deuce McBride? Kolec should go to the G league to get more playing time and learn to play defense. Let's see Kolec's +/- differential. I doubt Kolek will be the backup point guard since Thibbs preaches defense.
I don't agree with kolek being 2nd option regardless of what Begley meant. Going with the history of Thibs, he doesn't play rookies and especially any player that doesn't play D. Kolek plays bad D defending in summer league, he will get destroyed by NBA talent. This is a championship contending team, you don't slide in 2nd round no defense player into the lineup at this time with this team...Kemba Walker got benched permanently because he could not play D. Kolek is not ready to contribute in the knicks rotation..I smell trade bait, August is not that far away. They played Burks over Kemba...they won't play Deuce over Kolek??..ridiculous take. Randle goes nowhere, no reason to get rid of him, not hurting the team and he's a plus to the knicks.

There's probably a little too much assumption that Mikal will opt into that extension. He would be severely underpaid.

Kolek is totally unproven on the NBA level. I'm sorry but Summer League means NOTHING. Worse, Kolek will not be able to guard ANYONE in the NBA, given they will be bigger strong, faster than any players he has ever faced. Deuce had a great year and we still don't know HOW good he can be. To me this is a no-brainer. Kolek is small, weak, slow; Deuce is proven.
True but Deuce may have to be a trade piece.

Thibs loves Deuce. Thibs doesn't trust rookies so I believe Kolek will be traded with Achiwa to the Hawks for Capela.

I have Deuce more of scoring guard than a point guard. Yes he will get some minutes there but his handles has to improve before I catorgotize him as a point guard.

Ot you could have an all nba talent on your team. Why are we even thinking of trading Randle? He was hurt last year. With him we beat Indiana easy snd maybe Boston wouldn’t have seen the finals.
I think the Knicks love Randle. It may come down to how large of an extension he wants. If it's too large he may be traded. It isn't a basketball-based decision. Brunson is extending early for much less. Will Randle want to do the same?
Have you seen the NBA payrolls? the Knicks are in good spot. Philadelphia not so much.

@@martyl1313 I thought he was 6’2” as well. He probably is. Knicks put in their announcement that he was 6’3”
