How to Paint 1/48 Scale Model Figures
This is a quick video showing the techniques I use to paint these small 1/48 scale pilots and other figures. After some practice, I find them to be not so hard to do. I actually like them now. This is the pilot from the Tamiya 1/48 Scale F4U-1A Corsair build video.

Build of the Tamiya 1:48 Scale Vought F4U-1A Corsair

Tamiya WWII aircraft models are a lot of fun to build. This kit lived up to the reputation. I decided to go light on the weathering to give it a like new look. I think my Vallejo Nigh Blue was a bit too dark a shade of navy blue but I am still happy with the results. Enjoy the build and thanks for stopping by the garage.

      Wow, I had no idea this kit has such a history. I did think it was odd that there were no decals for Challenger but there were for Columbia. I guess if its a repackage of the shuttle after they made that change it makes some sense. It was a fun kit to build. I have always been a fan of the shuttles so it brought me back to my childhood a bit. Thank you for taking the time to share all of this. Thank you for watching too.

    • @powersmodelgarage
      @powersmodelgarage 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you. My thought was that a lot of the satellites and the space lab are created in highly controlled clean dust free labs by NASA. So the cargo and the cargo bay area would likely be very clean. So I just painted white and left clean. Not sure if that true or not but that was my thinking anyway 🤷‍♂️

    • @erickohlhorst747

I understand your rational and don't disagree but I will struggle to at least not put down a panel wash.....great work, the heat shield looks amazing, I've also seen modelers use a huge decal for heat shield. I was wondering if dry brush could also work for bottom....nevertheless, great work!!!

    How interesting! I just finished my Revell 1/144 scale Shuttle 2 days ago. I built it straight out of the box, with a few modifications of my own. I drilled out the holes on the Landing Gear Struts (8 per main, 2 for the nose). And I also removed the Rudder (it was part of the 2 half Fuselage) and split it in half vertically. Posed it with the Speed Brakes open. I used paperclips for Actuators, and since the 1/144 scale kit doesn't have a lot of detail, I added the piping that surrounds the 3 Main Engines (again paperclips). I see yours has it as part of the molding. I agree the decals are confusing since the placement is different with the years of service. Mine didn't have the big blue NASA logo, only the older "spaghetti" NASA logo, so I had no choice with that option. I chose to do Discovery as I found lots of good images on the internet. In hindsight, I should have drilled out the nose Maneuvering Thruster holes. My kit is just a decal. I like how yours has the actual holes! Weathering was kind of a guessing game as one has to imagine where the heat of re-entry would have scorched her most. But it's not like anyone except an astronaut is going to second guess me. 🤔 Great build!!!!😀

      Yes, it’s a Govee Air Purifier. It’s not really its intended use but It works pretty well at keeping airbrush mist out of the air. I only use acrylics so it’s ok for that. I wouldn’t trust it with the enamels and lacquers. I would want a booth to suck those toxic fumes outside.

    Picked up the Monogram 72 scale when a teenager and had to abandon the build when I couldn't get the underside seam to close up. Still have it in the closet. And now that I'm sixtyone and have had quite a few kits under my belt I've been thinking about finishing it since now I know what to do about that seam. Looks like the front cabin vision ports are dramatically bigger than the Monograms. I'll have to do some research to see if Monograms kit is in error. Great build!

      I can understand that. The seams on this one went together well but they were a bit difficult. They would have been really tough if they didn’t fit so well. You should revisit yours just for the fun of nostalgia. Thank you for the compliment and for watching 👍

    You did an excellent job on the preshading of the kit. I've seen the Discovery in the Smithsonian. The variety of colors on the heat tiles would make masking this kit a nightmare. Well done.

      Yes, they definitely made it a tough one to paint, but I'm happy with the results. Thank you for the kind words. I hope to get to the Smithsonian someday soon to see Discovery. Has to be an awesome site to see

    The G601 is a great platform and the bus always looks great ripping around! They are so much more quick and agile than they look like they should be!

      The G6-01 is definitely a modern classic! It really is pretty fast and powerful in its stock form. Its a lot of fun because it can go pretty much anywhere with the 6x6. I am working on upgrading it to 13.5 brushless. More speed, more power 😀

    The Battle Bus!! I have mine running 10.'5 brushless with 3 cell lipo. It's a ripper.

      That's awesome. I bet it is. I actually have this one torn apart on the bench making some repairs. I'm putting a 13.5 brushless in it. Hoping for similar results.

      I agree! This one has been a lot of fun for us and has taken a beating. I have it torn apart on the bench right now replacing some worn parts. I decided to open it up and clean up the gears. That part still looks new. I was really surprised. Its a tough one.

    The Frog was flying around out there! Such a cool classic buggy! Loved seeing the wheelies, what motor did you put in there?

    • @powersmodelgarage

      It does. Its actually a little hard to control because the front keeps coming up. I dont even have the fast gear in there. The motor is a Tamiya Super Stock BZ. Its a hot motor.

    Despite your issues with the body the build came out nice. I had a build earlier this year for the life of me I couldn’t get right. I think most of us have been there.
