This album was my introduction to Tori, I now have all her material, but this remains one of my favorites. Every song a gem.
Totally, mellow. Breathtakingly, blusteringly, windswept over the heart, poetically righteous.
she changed her voice control on this album -most of her album you can hear her take breaths between verses-this is far more controlled and measured
The musicality of Tori Amos's songs are great and superior to most other modern pop artists today, but I hate it when she blasphemes God in her songs.
I enjoy so much the way Tori uses piano in rock music 🎶 🎹

This album is one of her best by far....the style is different from any of her other albums...for whatever reason it appears she was going a different direction with this album and i wish she had stayed with this style...its fantastic

I can safely say, Scarlet's Walk (that amazingly I only discovered a few weeks ago) is one of my fav albums of all time. It's everytyhing. Catchy, emotional, themed, ..... *musical* and I mean that. I'm musical person (play/write), and it *engages* with me so much. I had Tori's breakthrough album and thought it was a bit "meh" - with SW I now consider her to be Ms Mozart :)

I suspect this album only has its negative reputation because Tori herself was so dissatisfied with it. Frankly, I love it. I think it's in her top five best albums, as heretical as that might be to say.

Scarlet's Walk didn't set the world on fire on release, and most major reviewers gave it three stars. Which is strange, because every single track is a gem, it flows better than any of her other albums, and Gold Dust is quite possibly the best thing she's ever done. Those reviewers were holding gold dust in their hands...
For me, this is Tori's best album.

What does this song mean
I suspect, it means be careful if you become a pornography actor, or don't, because those who love you one minute in the next move on to something else. And your real dreams, your highest desires (the Northern Lights), in the meantime get lost.
I think it's about a young woman who's forced to grow up fast and do daring things for everyone to see. And she can only get to enjoy her fleeting popularity for such a short while because in time she'll get old and lose them (when the northern lights stops shining for her).
It’s a song about a porn star. there was a commentary cd about the songs from this album. It’s about porn and virginity.
I interpret this song kinda literally. I think it's about two characters, two women from Alaska who grew up together. One of them goes to L.A. and becomes a porn star, and for a while her life seems exciting. But eventually she feels like she's losing sight of who she is. Her friend (Tori's character) assures her that the northern lights are still "waving," which I think means she can always choose to go home and that Tori still loves her.
it's about the difference between perception one has of one self versus the perception of an outsider who actually cares about you. amber waves is taken from America the Beautiful which is a song kids learn in school. so it is about America itself as well as a person.
