Skyward Bound - The Chesterfield Mall
Seems like they still have a long way to go. Some of those foundations are HUGE
Anybody thinking about building that "Powerplex" anywhere in St. Louis is a can short of a six-pack!!
One thing I still don't understand is the whole sub-basement thing. I'm wondering if this is the giant hole I heard would result from knocking down the mall and removing the sub-basement. Also something completely unrelated, I notice Dunn Rd. next to I-270 was changed to a one-way street and certain on/off ramps connecting I-270 East are gone! Surely you've been through there? I used to be, all the time. Can't help but wonder if those changes help make things any safer out there, between Christian Hospital and I-170
Yeah, i have no idea what's going on with the sub-basement. However the one ways have been in the work for a while now. They're trying to set it up similar to out in St. Charles. I'm not sure if it's really made anything much safer, however they added a dedicated lane only metro can use coming out of the bus depot that goes from dunn up onto the highway so that traffic doesn't get in the bus's way. So that's a bonus i guess.
Can you fly over the new development happening in creve Coure at the old Bayer building ?
Is that olive blvd and Lindbergh?
@@fireghostExplores Yes, it’s been in the works to make it a new down town area. Many neighbors didn’t like the plan. They are moving lots of earth . Haven’t demolished the building yet. Looks like the inside has been gutted.
@@Matthew-4114 I can definitely swing over there in a day or two to get a recording of the area. I heard them talking about it like a year ago, didn't know they started anything though.
Glad to see that decayed mall gone.
How was this allowed to happen to Jamestown Mall?
Worked at club 367 met pantera nazereth and a few thrash metal bands was a good time
North ridge Mall is the demolished
Thanks for the great update FireGhost Explores! Can't wait for the next!
i was in this building less than an hour ago…. it’s so torn up :(. absolutely gutted
Really? Did you get any recordings or pictures from it?
That bldg was an eye sore even back in 2011. If the owner cared, they would've done something. But it's crazy seeing this video. I haven't seen that bldg in years.
Thanks for the update and I viewed your Louis and Clark tower video, very interesting and Keep em Rolling!
Heck yeah! Can’t wait to see all of that concrete gone
I can't wait to see it finally flattened to be an actual field, or transition if they ever green light a project there.
Was there a few times in the late 70's. God am I getting old!
It’s sister mall the Chesterfield mall just closed a week ago. It’s going to be the new down town chesterfield in a few years.
Yep, i got a few videos on chesterfield mall as well.
Wait the chesterfield mall closed?? I was on a bus heading there and three passengers were going there! That’s crazy.
I remember this tower growing up in St. Louis County. It’s an awful eyesore now and a renovation would be great but demolition is more likely.
Grew up in Riverview Gardens from '70 and the Tower was a landmark. Swimming pool, saw James Bond movies in the cinema, grab a White Barn hamburger 1/4 mile down Chambers Rd. What a great, safe, amazing childhood. I wouldn't drive my car down the street I rode my bike carefree for years. Such a shame 13% of the wizards cast 53% of the spells.
Interesting, I hear this mall is even set for demolition in October! I wonder if any explorers could get to enter for some video footage first? I didn’t get to go there but I do remember passing by this mall as a passenger growing up in the early 2000s. I’d been closer to Jamestown mall
The mall started to die with all the retail that sprung up in the valley. Then, they had the genius idea to build not one but two "open air" malls that were basically right across the highway from one another. The retail market was already saturated, and Chesterfield mall began to suffer. One of those two malls outright failed, and Chesterfield mall died a slow death. It is very similar to the geniuses who thought building the Mills mall was a good idea. Well, goodbye, Jamestown, and soon, our own mall we built. I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Mills mall had the shortest lifespan of all malls ever.
So sad to see it go! Thanks again for the videos!
Of course, I'm glad to get these recordings!
I went in for the last day
Hope you had a good time up there!
😭😭😭😭😭
Beautiful but very sad that they closed for more stupid over priced condos
Yeah, they're turning it into mixed use property, wish the mall could have been revived.
@@fireghostExploresyeah they could have built the apartments and condos around the mall and then remodeling the mall
Great video! Glad to have been able spend some time in there today, just one last time
I'm glad you got to spend some time inside, unfortunately i didn't get to spend time inside the mall today, i ran up there, got the recording and had to leave again. But i wanted to get a recording before the mall closed for good.
Another mall gone
Yeah, unfortunately.
Ironically, Chesterfield Mall's grand opening was September 1, 1976. The August 31 edition of the Post-Dispatch included a separate section that documents the stores that were part of the "original" mall. Before this mall was built, Stix, Baer & Fuller planned a shopping center on Olive & Mason Roads (site of the current Schnucks). The Olive-Creve Coeur bus line was extended from Four Seasons Shopping Center (Woods Mill & Olive) to serve Chesterfield Mall beginning Tuesday September 7, 1976.
Thanks for the information, that's pretty interesting!
Great background music!
Thanks!
Many use to wonder why the mall was being built when other malls were going downhill. The location was never convenient. Other businesses built around the mall and didn't last long.
Sad, I remember when the mall first opened. Been there several times and several friends used to work there.
Hey would it be possible to get some drone shots of chesterfield mall the last day is August 31st
Do you know if they have any special events or anything that would make some good shots?
@@fireghostExplores I haven't heard of anything thats going to happen
I thought Columbus Ohio was the place where malls die, St Louis and Pittsburgh have their share. Keep em Rolling!
Great little video, Keep em Rolling!
Such an iconic building, a few of the scenes from Lethal Weapon 1 was filmed there
How many times a day do you go there?
I pass by the mall on almost a daily basis.
Too close to North County. Too many Mike Browns.
I' m not a st.louian, but sometimes feel like one. What to do with it. It's a mess, tear it down.
Louisian.!
Where did you get the photos from?
I have the link in the description, it's from a forum i found, a user named "Miner".
Great job as usual, FireGhost Explorers!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Would love to see your take on Cementland!
There was supposedly a cave underneath the mall
I'll look into that!
Triste o que o Estado deixou chegar a esse shopping! Por falta de investimento e incentivar empresas, o shopping atemporal, não suportou!
When I was there recently I could see they were using one of those buildings. I wondered if it would be torn down. Thanks for the updates!
No problem, yeah i knew they were using it for a while for security and other things, i didn't know when they'd finally knock that one down.
I wonder if the port authority gave them any change orders
As far as I'm aware they were always planning to take it down, but the construction crew for a while was using it for the job supervisor and security to be in.
I lived in the 8th floor 😂 man I had some fun times there from 2009 to 2013 and nothing in this video was a lie he said
Thanks for the continued updates. A lot of malls are being torn down right now sad.
It is sad, i'll be keeping an eye on it though, i plan to record chesterfield when they start that demolition as well.
Very cool update, thanks! I was wondering if they were going to keep those outbuildings or not, guess that answers that 😁
Yeah, they were planning to take it down for a while, but the construction crew for a while was using it for the job supervisor and security to be in. I'm not sure where they're gonna be now.
Yep, almost like it wasn't even there.
It's crazy driving past it and seeing how giant those piles of dirt are in person. From the street you can't see the holes they've dug so it looks like they'd be hauling stuff in if we couldn't see what they were doing from above.
this is so sad...im basically from stlouis...my life in a sense has always revolved around it...if im being honest iver never seen this building...but its gorgeous...i bet the bones of it are steel and thus still strong...point being l, this building, even today, has sooo much potential...its just bad the area and interest in it....if i had the money id totally bring this place back to glory....times are changing...to any invester watching...take over this property and make it what it should be...🙏🥺😁🫡
It's sad to see how it's gotten, how much the area has fallen and the state the building is in, It'd be amazing to see this building brought back to life, but i don't see much happening, sadly.
@@fireghostExplores sadly.... either do i🤦♂️🥺
This is sad. I took my drivers test on the lower level. Stelmacki’s grocery store was there too. I think there was a bowling ally there and a movie theater also.
Sure didn't take long from being built to closing down. I remember when it was being built thinking "what a waste of money", because most every big shopping mall was being abandon.
