All the cultural knowledge about watches and what lies behind them.
Watch Maintenance Compilation: Two Cartier Watches
Cartier's basic watch models all use the same movement, the cal.049. Let's take a look at what they look like. What do you think of cal.049 movement?

Something you don't know about Omega Co-axial
มุมมอง 2.7K4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Today, I'm going to explore Omega's Co-Axial system through this Seamaster 150 series watch I have. And during the disassembly of the 8500 movement in this watch, I'll reveal the superiority of the Co-Axial movement to you through the principles of mechanics. If you watch until the end, I'm sure you'll have a deeper understanding of the Co-Axial system.

If you wanna know why the escapement wheel worn out so quickly, click on this video I made. th-cam.com/video/6duZ08ZcyAI/w-d-xo.html It explained the reason. I hope you like it. Thanks for watching!
A mechanical watch without a balance wheel
มุมมอง 60Kหลายเดือนก่อน
In 1977, Seiko engineer Yoshikazu Akaba began to dream of creating "the eternal watch". After 28 years and more than 600 prototypes, the Spring Drive technology matured and was launched onto the market in 2005.
The reason for a watch to stop running

Why was this watch a luxury in China?

Why was this watch a kind of luxury in China in the last century? Let's find out.
Very interesting and informative.
Nice video. Compliments. I think that Omega official assistance is to be preferred also because they have the original components.
Rolex now has a coaxial movement and this year a serachrome hair spring
Very interesting an informative
Although not a bad video, I still despise the robot voice.🤬
It's funny because out of my 30+watch collection the only two that keep consistent perfect time over six positions are Omega's with the caliber 8500. A Planet Ocean from 2016 and an Aqua Terra from 2018. They are bulletproof. This was a very informative video and very well explained. I like your content and have now liked and subbed.
Bulletproof? Are you sure?😅
Are you sure 2007 is accurate I don’t think the 8500 was out yet I think it was still 2500 in use I could be wrong though
It’s a genius idea that Omega acquired the patent for. But it has no business in classic designs. I made it a point to still buy a new 1861 Speedmaster when they released the 3861 with the coaxial movement.
Your pronunciation of timegrapher needs improvement 😅
I tried your omega decoder and it says my Aqua Terra that I brought brand new January 2025 was form 2009. It’s a 41mm with the date at 6pm which model didn’t debut until 2017.
The tool can date any Omega watch from 1895 to 2011. So it may not be possible to track it if it is outside this time - range.
@ thanks
That was awesome 👏
The co axial movement in my speedmaster 3861 didn’t last a year before it stoped and I had to send it back to Omega.☹️ I bought my dad a Submariner in 2007 he never serviced it and it’s still running like a top. Sometimes simpler is better.
Perhaps it's time to consider taking your Submariner in for a service. 😅
@ I gave it to my my Dad as a gift back then and he’s to cheap to service it. 😂 He also has a Timex from the 70’s the thing was flooded more times than I can tell, he use to dry it out with a heat lamp, never been serviced, crazy it still runs to this day.
Another funning story about his submariner. We were all at the pool and I look down at the sub in the water. The crowns not even screwed down. 🤦🏻 fortunately no water got in but this is what I’m dealing with.😂
😀😄😆
You forgot to polish it. Unless custumer didnt want to.
You nailed it.
Love the visual explanations 👌🏽 earned a sub!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for subscribing!
..that’s fantastic !.. nice video.
That website to find the date of your omega by serial number is flawed. I just entered the serial number of my Seamaster Diver 300M from 2017, and according to this site my watch is also made in 2007.
According to Omega's past serial number arrangement rules, if the serial number is in the range of 81,000,000 - 83,999,999, the production year of the watch I had is approximately around 2007. The serial numbers of Omega watches produced in recent years are rather chaotic, so I guess that's the reason why the info was flawed.
Great video! And thank you for sharing. I have the same watch but blue dial, The silicone hair spring looks more like a regular metal hair spring as you were setting in it on it’s stand.
Very interesting thank you 👍
Very welcome
great video. can you comment on the 8500 vs later movements like the 8800 and 8900? are the METAS movements superior or is it only because they have been tested by METAS but are inherently the same
since the parts are worn out, will a third party watchmaker be able to service them? or are they only available via Omega?
I have a 2500 plant ocean and I had it serviced in 2017 by Omega and I also had it serviced last year by independent watchmaker and it’s been about eight months and it’s been running perfectly with the independent watchmaker. They did not replace parts to my understanding
Since 1754, when the swiss lever escapment was invented, this is a true and only pure mechanical innovation for the true mechanical watches. I am not engineer, but Spring Drive is a hybrid for me. Correct me if I'm wrong
Spring drive is hybrid it's true. Grand Seiko also has the new dual impulse escapement which is purely mechanical
Great video my friend! 👍. I learned a lot in 9:35 minutes 👏😬. I have a pre ceramic 2007 Planet Ocean XL with the 2500 movement to service, the watch had stop working. I hope my watch maker can service it. Will update here...Thanks for the video 👍
@@rideyalife I'm glad that you found this video valuable. And looking forward to your updates.
loved it
Very interesting video - thank you.
It's my understanding that the coaxial movements available now are fine, but earlier iterations in the 2500 and 2403 movements were a problem. I have one of these and no independent watchmaker will touch them, it requires special training from Omega to do so, but even those with training won't touch the earlier coaxial movements - they have to go back to Omega. I gather later iterations fixed this issue by going to a 3 level escapement, but those with the older 2 levels have more issues and they are stuck dealing with Omega's obscene service times.
I couldn't agree more with your point. There were indeed some issues with the early coaxial versions, but things got much better with the later ones. Thank you for providing such valuable information.
I have heard the same as well. I believe your info is correct.
Awesome video. You do discuss the timegrapher in this one and how it looks so one question from the other video answered :)
I'm glad you found the video helpful!
I am obsessed with Omega watches but I have yet to buy one. But one day. I am also obsessed with watchmaking in general so been watching other videos of other watchmakers mostly Wristwatch Revival. So I guess my question is why do you use the manual cleaning instead of say an ultrasonic cleaner? Isn't that more efficient to clean? Also I noticed you found the issue but didn't use a timegrapher, would that have come up there? Finally, how do you regulate this watch I didn't see any levers or anything when you were disassembling. Thanks and great video!
Since there was only one fixed single camera position during filming, it was not convenient to move the camera. As a result, some shots were not taken. When servicing Omega 2500, 8500 and Rolex movements, professional small time - adjusting tools are required. However, after this watch was serviced, the on - watch measurement showed that it was accurate, so the tool was not necessarily needed. I've just started making videos recently. I hope my future videos will improve. Thank you for your attention and suggestions.
Excellent explanation 👍🔥💕
Isn't it better to use a plastic or silicone forceps to grasp❓
Yes Indeed. Thanks for your advice.
very relaxing to watch, thank you! what solvent did you use for cleaning the parts?
Solvent Oil 120# Its characteristic is that it can evaporate quickly after cleaning and won't leave any residue on the surface of the thing being cleaned.
@@charliemaker2119 Thank you for the info!
Thanks for the video, great insights! How is it possible that the escapement wheel has worn out so quickly? Isn't the whole idea of the co-axial movement to reduce friction in the escapement? Considering it's a relatively new movement, one wouldn't expect it to be replaced so quickly.
Just seen your linked video which explains all the above. Great one, many thanks! 😀
I'm glad you found the video valuable.
Very nice asambel for this warch I'm 1at time looking this type watch
Thanks for watching! 👍
@charliemaker2119 actually I'm also watch technician
Beautiful
Glad you like it!
Love Seikos Spring Drive System.
Ça ne doit pas être évident de faire un travail aussi minutieux avec une rue aussi bruyante 😡
I've got used to it. Thanks for watching.
I OWN A SEA GULL WATCH FROM CHINA. IT'S AN AUTO AND KEEPS EXELENT TIME .
Great! SEA GULL offers a high cost - performance ratio. Good for you!
So many dust pieces left over mechanism and even on watch hands. Not precise work.
Are all spring drives the same? Is there a new mechanism change?
If I had the money i would choose a tourbillon over a spring drive
Spring drive beats turbilion
This is Amazing Watch by Seiko
Menurut ku jam tangan ini layak menyamay jam tangan termahal karna ke indahan dan akurasi nya yang begitu sempurna..
Good job and a lovely dial.❤😂🎉
Prá é a máquina mais difícil a de relógio.
Nice work ❤❤❤
Appreciate your love! ❤❤❤
खूप छान सिस्टीम आहे
Sorry, not a kinetic one, but a spring drive
Ok.
Spring drive
😮 Automatic Generating System, AGS von Seiko. KINETIC Watch.
No, it is not Kinetic. Kinetic is a quartz watch basically, with an accumulator that is charged from tiny generator that you spin by wearing watches. While Spring drive is a different approach. Here the moving energy is accumulated in a spring, like in mechanical watch, but the timekeeping is provided by the electromagnetic retarder controlled electronically.
