Hi,
I'm Steve Gerardi. I'm an occupational therapist, university professor, novice ukulele player, and cigar box guitar luthier. I started this channel to share my journey of discovery in learning to build and play stringed musical instruments. While searching for videos on how to play the ukulele, I discovered Justin Johnson playing a three-stringed shovel guitar! Seeing him shred that shovel using nothing but three fingers and a slide gave me hope that I could learn to play a musical instrument late in life. From there, I discovered Del Puckett's cigar box guitar building videos and became inspired to build instruments myself. So far, I have built diddley bows, cigar box guitars and ukuleles, candy tin ukuleles, and cookie tin banjos. I have also added instrument reviews to my channel. Join me on my journey of musical discovery. The fun has just begun!

Hello, i bought a second hand guitar and the bridge came off after arriving 😂, i just bought a titebond glue and some sandpaper, can i fix it myself without a clamp? I have some weight to put on the top of the bridge, around 5L of water. And should i polish the wood until it's smooth? Or should i left some texture to make the area bigger for the glue to stick to? Do you have any tips? Thanks in advance!
Just realized mine doesn't have the slotted stock like yours. Also not a fan of the whale and starfish. Have actually thought about ways of covering them up.
Hey Steve. I know it's been a while since you posted this but I have a question. This Kmise model is my favorite baritone uke for some reason. Fit, feel, action. I know it's not the highest quality, but I like it. Have you ever come across any other brand/model that has the same or similar feel or maybe it's shape? Especially when strumming? I don't do much finger-picking - primarily strumming.
Thanks I bought this after seeing your vid
I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for watching and commenting!
So here is my question. If the Kmise has a compensated saddle, how do they compensate for the G strings as they are of two different diameters. They could do an average or try to give each a specific compensation, or they could have just slapped on the same old tenor saddle.
Your guess is as good as mine. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I just purchasesd it..but the metronome won't work. I pressed the m/T button but to no result. It only functions in tuner....
Thanks for the feedback!
I solved it but pressing the M/T button longer ...
@@cristiannunez2117 I'm glad you sorted it out!
Great idea. The only upgrade I’d suggest getting some jeweler’s rouge and some polishing wheel for your Dremel.
Thanks for the tip! Thanks also for watching and commenting!
The way you described this guitar, sounds like they used a lot of fancy words for cheap materials.
HPL may be cheaper than luthier-grade wood, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is "cheap". Ultimately, it comes down to what you are looking for and assessing if the instruments meets your needs. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Thanks or watching and commenting!
I picked one up at a thrift store for $10. I was wondering why my chords were sounding so horrible! Is it possible to fix the issue with being out of tune with itself? How involved is that? If it's possible to fix something, I want to. But I'm also realizing that if it's too involved, I won't do it. Thanks.
If it is out of tune at every fret, it is probably because they put the bridge in the wrong place. You would need to measure the scale length and check the fret positions against the correct positions to figure out if the problem is more than just the bridge position (E.g. are the frets in the wrong places) Anything is fixable, if you know what you are doing, LOL! Fixing it may be an entertaining project, but it may not be worth your time. Thanks for watching and commenting!
On my!!!! Take my money!!!!😊
You should build one yourself! It is definitely in your grasp! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have one and it’s awesome.
Thanks for the feedback! Thanks also for watching and commenting!
As huge Pantera fan and guitar collector, I bought one of these yesterday. It will be a wall hanger and may get played once or twice a year. Great video, Thrash on ! 🤘
Very cool! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Looks like you can't buy them anymore was looking into getting a Tenor model
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nice review explaining the features.Thanks
Thanks! Thanks also for watching and commenting!
Yikes! So much inspiration.. gotta get me a cigar box and “fiddle” on what to make with it.
Thanks for watching and commenting! Looking forward to hearing about what you build!
Just a thought is the tuner part of the eq set up as this is common on most electro acoustic ukulele 😇😇😇
Nice way to finish it out Steve. An impressive brood spread across 4 vids.
Thanks 👍
Impressive. A lot of very creative builders. 👍👍👍🎸
I agree! Thanks for watching and commenting!
truly wonderful I have got to get building
Thanks! I look forward to seeing what you build!
Damn there some amazing builds!
Thanks for sharing. I have a battle in my head about should I make the lid or bottom be the sound board. Bottom usually wins since I get nice graphics on the back and can more easily work on the insides... good choice. I mostly lead the neck from the corner o f rectangular boxes to get finger space similar to cut away built guitars
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nice review but why is this the only review that i can find on this uke? Isn't it weird, being this cheap and looking good?
Thanks! It is a nice one! Thanks for watching and commenting!
That thing rules!
It is wicked cool! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I bought one, but how does one know when the battery is in need of charging...like before you need to charge them?
Good question! I don't know. I would just make a point to charge it frequently and certainly just before using it.
Mini banjo yay
It's definitely easier for traveling! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hey buddy! How are you doing? Hope you're well. Great video. Nice that it comes with chord sheet. I'm back to uploading regular videos. Take care, cheers!
Thanks! Welcome back! I'm doing well! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I think that's the same mandolin they sent to Maria. It looks really nice. I Like the finish and all the little details. You did alright for never having played a mandolin before. It looks like a great value. Nice review.
Thanks! Yep! It's the same model that Maria unboxed. I'm a bit late in posting the review because I had a cold which resulted in laryngitis. I had to wait for my voice to return. To play it, I had to figure out what chord shapes I could manage quickly! After playing the guitar, the mandolin neck seems so small! This mandolin is typical Vangoa quality and value! It is a good option for beginners who want the classic look of the F-style mandolin.
If you leave the cork in the bottleneck, can you play pop music?
LOL! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ibanez, Ibanez, Ibanez.

There were A LOT of builds in this swap. Apparently there's still another vid coming. Wow. Some great projects and beautiful instruments here.
Yep! 61 swappers! I'm continually inspired by the creativity of the builders!

Some more really nice builds. I’d be happy to play all of them.
You and me both!
I can get one of these from Amazon for about £80 so I might just do that…cheers 👌🎵
I hope this was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks as always Steve for displaying the work of some very talented people. 😊

My pleasure!
missed opportunity to call it a banjo!
I see your point! Guitar, banjo, canjo? Call it anything you like! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Sweet builds. Thanks for putting this together!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Some really nice builds there. I was wondering how you got the video so short but then I saw it’s 1 of 4. I love that solid body Daniel built.
There is definitely lots of creativity and inspiration on display! Thanks for watching and commenting!
This is a guitar, but the gentleman plays it as though it were a baritone uke. I wonder how he would play a four string electric bass? 🤔 Honestly, i do appreciate the time he took, the production quality, and thoroughness of his review. But I simply couldn't resist the opening statement.
I play everything like its a baritone ukulele! LOL!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@stevesstrings5243 Have you ever played a bass ukulele? You'd be a natural at it, and if you record your playing, it sits perfectly in the mix below a baritone ukulele.
I’ve dabbled with the bass ukulele. Thanks for the suggestion!
We had over 60 swappers this time around so I decided to divide the compilation video into 4 shorter videos for easier viewing. Enjoy!
A lot of really nice builds. Thanks Steve.
Glad you like them!
I've had this guitar for 6 years and its still holding up well. Id recommended you lower the action of this guitar if you get it brand new. only issues I've had is the tuning pedals being a little jumpy but its overall well.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Cool.
Thanks!
Had to get the 28 in they literally discontinued the 26 in and sold the last one an hour before I went to buy one
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I wish this came in baritone uke size. I’m looking for a blue case for a tenor that I’m making with an oversized body.
Me too! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Wonderful instrument!
