A long overdue episode. Was too busy to do this in October and then certain hard drive shenanigans happened this month so this episode is debuting two weeks late. Skip to the 03:30 time code if you want to skip the long rambling backstory to this episode. Enjoy!

A duel between the two disc formats! Small and large... but totally not what you were thinking (dirty dirty). The movie used is SPEED, released back in 1994. It's the one with the bus, not the loser one with the stupid boat. At least there have been worse pieces of media with boats (cough cough Love Boat). This is a re-upload. Apparently my first attempt was too much for the Copyright Nazis and...

IS IT BROKE, FIXABLE, OR JUST PLAIN DURABLE? An 8-Track Retrospective
Yea Ilsa kinda went out unexpectedly in the last one which was an odd choice for sure but I guess they needed to raise the stakes somehow? I would though for this one if they could bring back Paula Patton, Jeremy Renner and maybe someone from Mission Impossible 3 to help fill in the gap. Let’s be honest the last one barely had a spy team and it’d be nice to see these characters again
To be honest , this film is quite heartbreaking 💔💔😭😭 , Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa Faust character that we all loved in Mission Impossible franchise is allready dead and becoming a corpse ☠️☠️💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 , and we won't see her again in this upcoming Mission Impossible final reckoning film 💔💔💔😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞

Mike shinoda unlocked what LP came to be. Chester is goated no doubt. Its only these overwoke american fans that want their music to come from innocent angels that do no wrong. LP moves on with music we have been missing. People really need to stfu and move on too.
VERY SIMPLE IF YOU DON'T LIKE, DON'T LISTEN, DON'T TORTURE YOURSELF, IS THOUSANDS OF FANS THAT WE LOVE IT, LET US TO ENJOY OUR LINKIN PARK.
Chester's was the heart and soul for you, is your opinion
Well, everyone has their opinion. Personally I’ll wait and listen to the album. It’s all about the music at the end of the day. But I enjoyed your video dude, I thought you were quite fair:)
@@BenAoA I suppose that's true. Again a change in band rosters is usually a normal thing in the music industry. Look at how Fleetwood Mac's history for example. I just think the general future of this band has me concerned and makes me wonder if it should have been allowed to rest. Chester was the heart and soul of Linkin Park and it seems like he's being replaced by someone that doesn't really have that. Though the other part is me just reluctant to accept certain changes too so there's that. Hopefully when we listen to it you'll get something out of it that I might not.
awwwww poor boy
This is not really a fair comparison, especially with Star Wars..the CED was released in 1982 and the version on vhs you show is the 1995 digitally remastered release that had cleaned up picture and sound . The only real way to do a fair comparison would be to have a copy of each movie format you show being in new condition from the same year of release for each as well as each video player being in new condition. Tape media wears with repeated play , are the video heads clean on each tape machine ? How many heads does each have ? Is the stylus worn on the CED player , has dust gotten into the protective caddy and onto the disc ? ...these are all factors to consider and due to the age of all these machines and media , it would be very difficult to find everything in new or like new condition. Interesting video though .
I suppose you make a somewhat fair comparison. This was the oldest Star Wars tape I had at the ready since the rest are Special Edition. I did have the 1984 CBS/FOX version once, but it never had a box, and it was always in rough condition which is why it's no longer in my collection. I also wish I had one movie to demonstrate across all three formats but I didn't which is why I had to do it this way. I believe my current tape player has 4 heads??? But I have been wrong before. Though to be fair, all the VHS VCRs I have ever owned were from the 1990s, and CED obviously didn't make it to the 90s, so it's always going to be stuck in the early 1980s technology-wise. If we want to make a fair comparison concerning age, my Sears Beta player is from 1983 (methinks) so it might be closer in quality to the CED player. Anyways, other than some CED "glitches" I didn't really see too much of a difference comparing STALAG 17, but A NEW HOPE definitely (yes) had some differences. Not only is the pan-and-scan different on the tape (actually has less picture I think), but the color-timing is better, and the CED is actually slightly sped up (hence why it couldn't be synced right).
so you have to flip these to play the whole movie?
In a way, pretty much. AT MOST, the CED Disc could hold about 60 minutes per side... again, at most. That's why movies about 2 hours or under had to be split in half at a certain point to account for that, because technology at that point (disc-wise) could only do that. Once Side 1 was done with the first half of the movie, you had to flip it over to play the other half of the movie. However, if a movie ran over two hours, you would often need a 2nd disc, usually with 'Side 3' or even 4 depending on how long the movie was. So I suppose for example, if we want to look for modern examples, a movie like Avengers: Endgame would need a 2nd disc or a 'Side 3' since it's three hours long, probably same for a movie like Killers of the Flower Moon, which needs a 2nd disc for sure. However, a movie like Men in Black 3 could get away with one disc since it's under 2 hours. There's also no special features on these things, so it's not like there's extra things to see as well. To be fair, CED died in 1986, so its not like these movies would have made it onto the format unfortunately, although I would be very curious to see what Endgame would look like on a CED or LaserDisc. Honestly, flipping it isn't so bad, and honestly, it does demand a little interactivity with your movie, something lost in modern times.
@@20thcenturydude56 could you record off tv onto these? Or buy blanks to record? It is crazy how much plastic these things generated, the mass and weight of hauling these to stores. These thing were never a part of my life, and i only found out about them in the past year, but i think i would like to have some just to collect them as items of history
@@SHANECatLovinActivistHistorian Unfortunately no. That wouldn't have been applicable for this format. You basically had the movies themselves and that's it. NO RECORDABLE CEDs. Back in the day, you had recordable VHS and Betas and that was it. This is probably one of the reasons CED failed. There were recordable LaserDiscs, but those were saved mostly for the professional market, and nothing for at home. Not to mention, you could only get 20-30 minutes on a recordable LaserDisc anyway. Chances are if you were in a museum back in the day passing by an exhibit with some "video pictures" most likely it was a recordable LaserDisc. It's nice that you've become acquainted with the format. I found out about their existence five years ago and I got a player and a set of movies as a graduation present back in 2020. It's not the best format out there, nor is it my favorite disc one, but it is probably one of the most unique out there, and honestly, not many people can say nowadays that they've watched movies on vinyl.
@@20thcenturydude56 well this morning i just bought 4 of these movies just to have them as historical collectables. I dont have a machine, and was really just going to display them. I paid $100 for a sealed star wars. The others much less. I really dont know how i never knew about these when i was a kid. I was 13 when we got a vcr.
@@SHANECatLovinActivistHistorian Nice! I have Star Wars as well. I am hoping to pick up The Empire Strikes Back soon to go with it. Hopefully you can get a working player soon so you have something to entertain yourself with. I only have the movie WarGames on display simply because the disc doesn't work. What are your other titles exactly? Maybe we have other similar titles
To me the problem of the movie was the mid to end; I didn't feel threatened by that Paradox guy and I didn't feel threatened by Cassandra because of how powerful she was. Like at the of the day they defeated her by luck almost and it didn't really pay off. Also felt strange to me that Logan in the end just hears that no one will save his universe and he's like "Understandable have a good day" and it felt out of character to me. The deadpool battle also was kinda disappointing to me; some action was pretty cool but the CGI and the lack of STAKES made it less fun for me; basically a bunch of immortal people fighting each other it's not that fun because you know no one is going to die, and we didn't really have time to connect and understand the motivations behind those deadpools. Beginning of the movie was dope, tho
Somewhat true. I did feel that Cassandra Nova was somewhat underdeveloped, and honestly, I don't have any real opinion on the Paradox character (whether that's good or bad idk). I also feel like the Deadpool battle (while entertaining) did feel tacked on like a "2nd third act" (which I hate). I do know that many people are already calling the beginning of the movie one of the best MCU intros there is. As for Logan, since the multiverse appeared to be somewhat rejuvenated, maybe his world is okay-ish??? Overall, I think this is my favorite Deadpool sequel but I do prefer the first one more (the jokes landed the best).
Cool video! Burkett knows his stuff!
Thank you! He does indeed. This is a video he's wanted to make for a long while now, and thankfully it paid off. In the near future, expect a potential continuation with maybe hints of LaserDisc or even more CED magic!
From 0:47 to 2:27 - best reaction video ever!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks! I actually had to re-record the reaction separately because the first time the video didn't sync up right for some reason. But I suppose if you want to see another "flat" trailer reaction, then check out my INSIDE OUT 2 Trailer Reaction
THE LIGHTHOSE is one of my fav film, watch it at late night for better experience.
Interesting way of viewing the film. If I have time to watch it this summer, I'll definitely get around to it
@@20thcenturydude56 re watching in winters late night is awesome
You have to remember that Furiosa (and eventually The Wasteland) is meant to bridge the gap between Beyond Thunderdome and Fury Road, and Furiosa wasn't as intense as Fury Road because she didn't have an entire cult chasing after her. Miller's abrupt change of pace was ballsy as hell in today's market and I think the genius of his storytelling will take some time to resonate with the masses. So my point is Furiosa was great if you are hungry for more tales from the Wasteland, otherwise you might be a little disappointed.
Mixed?! Majority who’ve seen it love it
I suppose they got more out of it than I did. Then again, I would have just preferred another Mad Max movie with Tom Hardy rather than a Furiosa prequel (Fury Road already kinda was her movie anyway). Perhaps a rewatch is in order I guess when I get the chance.
@@20thcenturydude56 I've read that Miller has every intention of making a prequel centered around Max and it'll probably be called The Wasteland, so everyone needs to calm down about losing Max as the main character lmao.
@@rockguitarist931 Then hopefully he can make it as soon as possible cuz the man is eighty years old, and while he's still somewhat on the top of his game, life is unfortunately finite. I just wish we had that movie first honestly
@@20thcenturydude56 I think Furiosa was a ballsy release in today's market, it definitely does it's job of supplementing the plot of Fury Road and I can't wait to see how he ties The Wasteland into this. The movies are basically a documentary about the Rise & Fall of Immortan Joe, anyways.
@@rockguitarist931 I just hope we get The Wasteland movie at this point. After all, George Miller will only be around for so much longer and the franchise would go horribly in the hands of someone else (sound familiar?)
Ced discs are no good try finding one that will play all the way through without messing up
An imperfect format but not worth completely throwing away. I also suppose it depends on the quality of your player and the discs that you're provided with (important for hardware care). Some movies just turn out better than others I suppose. Sure, I like other formats like Betamax, VHS, DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, 4K, and LaserDisc a lot more, but at least CED has enough room to be unique on its own. I also have a friend that supposedly has a CED player that is "skip-less" but I've never seen it in action so I leave it up to my imagination to see how that works.
I have very many that play all the way through. It's all in how they were stored and many of them weren't stored well. It's also in the stylus and how well the machine is serviced. It's pretty simple. You take care of your equipment and media and it will work properly for you.
@@sturkrazee288 Very true. Which reminds me that I need to replace the needle in my machine, otherwise I might have to get something new. It's a shame they don't make replacement parts for these things anymore

Where is it available now?
Honestly. Who knows. Unfortunately, we won't be seeing it on the internet, either on the Archive or a Google Drive, anytime soon. I've tried to upload my own copies at least THREE times and the Archive has taken them down all the times. Nothing I can do as of now. Sorry
I forgot to mention... Laserdisc was totally better than CED to begin with. Which is probably why Laserdisc survived as long as it did. Not only is Laserdisc a more convenient format, but the quality was obviously better. Although in CED's early reviews, supposedly it was reviewed as better than Laserdisc because I guess the 'Discovision' titles were absolute garbage. But after 1981 and until the end of time... it's obvious that Laserdisc was the better disc format of the two
I love laserdisc to me laserdisc are actually better then most of the early DVDs what laserdisc I have all still play no problems only ever had 1 disc go bad it was an early discovision title I actually prefer the sound better on laserdisc then DVDs never had issues with weak volume like on a lot of DVDs also laserdisc provide true wide screen DVDs don't
@@michaelliptak358 Yeah I have one or two early DVDs at home and both are pretty subpar, to the point where my Great Escape VHS actually looks better than my Great Escape DVD. Perhaps in 1997 or so they haven't worked out all the kinks. I have no prior exposure to an actual DiscoVision title though I did hear they weren't reliable after awhile. The only LaserDisc I think I actually had a problem with was my NIXON movie, because I think it was probably poorly stored and the first disc had obvious laser rot on both sides (there goes eight bucks)

@@20thcenturydude56 hi it appears they were removed, do you still have them!
@@alecthom4001 Well on the Internet Archive, no. Which unfortunately makes this video essentially useless (unless the files get put back on within the next year or so). I have the files myself on a hard drive, and theoretically I could PROBABLY upload them and share a Google Drive link but the storage would fill up rather quickly and I imagine it would take forever to download depending on your internet connection. They shouldn't be. Although I definitely haven't checked anytime soon so I honestly wouldn't know right away

@@rigomortisfxstudios That's unfortunate. I'm gonna have to look into this again because you're not the only one having this problem and this shouldn't be happening. Sorry about the inconvenience. I got these last year so hopefully nothing bad happened
Do you have the edit
They should do COMPLETELY despecialized versions, that is, with no special effects at all! I'm talking blasters just making pop noises, lightsabers are just sticks, David Prowse voicing Darth Vader!
Haha! That would be really funny. That could be the Rough Cut that George Lucas showed his friends and then Marcia Lucas was brought in to fix. Perhaps a fan with more time than me could do that. But yea that would be hilarious and honestly quite interesting to see. It would at least be better than those doggone things we call 'Sequel Installments'
If you want a good video on the Rough Cut of Star Wars A New Hope you can check out 'Star Wars: The Lost Cut explained' from a channel called FILM SPACED which I think does a really good job of explaining this, as well as other additional videos perfectly analyzing the various changes of the OG Trilogy and checking out Galaxy's Edge rides. You might have to put the video at 0.75x speed though cuz he talks really fast
and the audios in other languages? I would like to have it in brazilian portuguese
unfortunately, I don't know if the files come in files aside from English. I suppose you can check if there are subtitles but otherwise, I don't think they do. I checked the Internet Archive where I sourced them from, and it doesn't appear there's any option for that. And converters don't translate languages methinks. Sorry. Don't mean to disappoint.
Which player for a computer can i play a RAR or Zip files without making any problems?
I used a program called Win-ZIP evaluation, although you'll probably have one free use before you buy for a full program unfortunately. Whether this will completely work for you, I don't know. If you do have a PC and want to convert them as video files I would recommend Any Video Converter. I have a Mac, so this program is unfortunately not cross-compatible. To be honest, I don't know how well AVC would convert RARs or ZIPs as I never really used it for that but I assume that it's still the same principle. I hope I answered your question and it works for you. I'm gonna follow up with a review of the Despecialized and the Mono prints hopefully soon.
