Leading with Authenticity: How to Overcome Stress and Fear to Inspire Your Team w/ Dr. Gary Epler
Nick Capman sits down with Dr. Gary Epler, a Boston-based medical doctor and thought leader specializing in optimal health, high performance, and leadership, to discuss authentic leadership, stress management, and how leaders can cultivate authenticity to inspire and engage their teams effectively.
Dr. Epler is the founder of "quantum biology" and the creator of the "Eplerian Life Philosophy," which emphasizes strategies for achieving maximal performance, enduring joy, and optimal well-being.
His philosophy centers on helping individuals and leaders harness the potential of their human brain, particularly the prefrontal cortex, to foster innovation, creativity, and authentic leadership. He advocates for reducing stress, eliminating ego-driven behaviors, and adopting a people-centered, values-driven approach to life and leadership.
His work has gained recognition through hundreds of podcast appearances, where he shares practical insights and actionable strategies for improving personal and professional lives.
A few key themes and takeaways:
- Dr. Epler emphasizes that authenticity means being one's true self. Leaders can achieve this by using their "human brain" (prefrontal cortex) for creativity, innovation, and decision-making rather than relying on the "primitive brain" focused on survival, ego, and fear.
- Stress and fear are the primary obstacles that prevent leaders from being authentic. Dr. Epler illustrates this with a story about a CEO overwhelmed by the pressure to please stakeholders rather than focusing on long-term, impactful decisions.
- The primitive brain triggers survival-oriented thoughts like fear, stress, and ego-driven behaviors. Authenticity, on the other hand, stems from the human brain's capacity for kindness, helping others, and making values-driven decisions.
- Leaders can assess their authenticity by identifying behaviors driven by stress, fear, or ego, such as trying to please others, seeking power, or thinking primarily about themselves.
- Ego-driven leadership, often characterized by a sense of superiority, undermines authenticity and creates barriers to trust and collaboration. Dr. Epler emphasizes the importance of humility and self-awareness.
- Authentic leaders inspire trust, foster innovation, and create more productive, engaged organizations by prioritizing long-term success over short-term survival.

the sound quality from the host mic is not very clear
Interesting discussion, appreciate the idea that the DEA is concerned with security and recordkeeping and not the schedules of drugs themselves.
Thanks for a great conversation! ⭐
I like the two cents from the host about the journey working in small companies

This is more than I can handle...I am in over my head. I need some help with answers and understanding. I don't need advice. Someone knows. Seems those who do won't say. Take a minute...try to answer one question. Try to find out anything. Even just a picture of it. I think you will realize that something is wrong. You will realize why I need help. I can't be the only one. They put this on my teeth...6 yrs later something safe came out. Ribbond is safe. It's banded and doesn't come apart. The uhmwpe polymer weave it replaced breaks, comes apart, and fails. What is the uhmwpe polymer weave that fails? Who made it? What happens when it fails? This uhmwpe polymer weave is a self healing material. All self healing materials reverse. Can you understand what that means? Do you know why the work a polymer does is called a physical phenomenon? Can you imagine a dense plastic weave coming apart in your mouth? This is above and beyond... please help. Please help bring some knowledge and understanding to what they have done to me. A lot of dentists wrote about Ribbond vs uhmwpe. They have known for a long time. Dr Howard Strassler wrote about it. I called and talked to him...he would not discuss it. It's just 2 materials. Something is wrong here. Please help me. jefffetzer1984@gmail.com thank you
Thanks can you please complete discussion about quality matrices
