    Is it aluminium or cast iron? I got a cracked lower unit mount on my Yamaha 40hp 2 stroke. I got my tig welder ready but not 100% sure what material it is. What apm is a good starting point?

    • @45calshooter
      @45calshooter 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its aluminum. I run a foot pedal and adjust the power during the weld. start around 100amp. Just clean it really good. If you have problems clean the material more. ( wire brush or die grinder).

    • @45calshooter
      @45calshooter 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its cast aluminum. I run a foot pedal so my amps very. I'd start at around 150-175 amps and turn down as you weld. The key to aluminum welding is. Clean the aluminum, and clean it more. I use a stainless steel wire brush and then wipe down with acetone. If you get black specks or black soot, you haven't clean the material. One more thing. the older the aluminum the harder it to weld.

    I am a beginner on a 2004 Power MIG 300 (the price was right). I am setting my machine to weld steel using GMAW-P with 0.45 wire. Although you are setting up for aluminum I was able to follow and (more or less) convert info for my application. Absolutely could not have done it without your great video. Thank you.

    I have a lincoln 350mp for more than 7 years and to date I have not been able to find someone to help me set the correct parameters to weld aluminum. It is for me the worst investment I have ever made in my life. I would be very grateful if you could help me make the adjustments. to the machine to see if I can finally use it I bought it for fun no one puts a video where I really explain how to adjust it in detail I would appreciate any help

      I really wish I could help you out with more information. This welder along with 2 other were stolen a few years ago when my shop was broken into. I had a love / hate relationship with it. I'd get it welding perfect, set it down. Come back 10min later and have to readjust all the setting. I'm kinda glad it was stolen. I think it was lincolns biggest fail for a welder. Make a short video of the problem and tag me. I'll let you know if I see anything that stands out.

    You need your ground clamp on the drive, not the table. Current flowing through the bearings.

    • @45calshooter
      @45calshooter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct. This lower unit had other problems and is getting rebuilt after I finish. The owner wanted to see what it looked like before spending more money on labor to remove the gears, bearing and seals. If he didn't like what it looked like he was going to buy a new unit.

      I poured small anount for the base then while it was still wet i placed a smaller plastic bucket inside and finished the pour. Keeping the smaller bucket pushed down so it wouldn't float up.

      My power mig didn't like Aluminum. It would weld fine for 6 to 8 inches and then just go to hell. Hard wire different story. It would run all day long until you shut the power off and then you had to run though the setting not change them but just move up one unit and back down to the original setting you had. I really hope our welder just had a bug (it was one of the first power mig 300) The following year they changed (improved) how the cobramatic push pull gun attaches. If yours didn't come with one and you do order one check to see what connection type you have.
