Airy/Storm Gimbal Phantom - Quick Release Modification
How about a 12v winch and a 50 amp lithium or a riding mower battery?
I'm wondering if this can be built what's a rechargeable electric drill motor. Would imagine it would be a lot simpler?
thank u for being not only smart but also sharing it with us!
next improvment: make it wall hanged.
Kiwi ingenuity at work❤
My husband just got done making one of these for us to use to haul totes and large pieces of decor for the different holidays up and down from the basement. Getting too old to carry those heavy things and it works great. We decided to use a winch with a wireless remote. We hang the remote at the top of the stairs to call the platform box and if we are going up and down ourselves, it has a lanyard on it that goes around our neck so it's always with us if need be. Today we will let it carry our two outdoor deck umbrellas down for winter storage. He did many trials and errors to get everything like he wanted and it was a lot of work but so nice to have. I looked through TH-cam for ideas before and yours was definitely the right choice for us. Thank you so much.
Hi Barry, great job. I'm impressed. Could you elaborate a bit more how you used 2 pulleys to have the wire come straight out of the box, instead of weaving side to side? Would it be possible to get a photo of the set-up? One other thing, you said the box is 17" wide, so how long is the bottom, from front to back? Would very much appreciate your answers, thank you.
Brilliant!!! I plan to follow your plans to build one for my dog.
FYI consider using a shower chair. Might be cheaper than the barstool. I bought a shower chair that assembles for the shower but they forgot to ship the legs! They were nice enough and shipped me another one and told me just to throw the first one away. Seemed like a waste. Then it occurred to me it might be great for a stairlift because it even has armrests/safety handles. Haven't built it yet, though, because I'm trying to figure out the issue of how to handle the landing halfway up the stairs. But I'll figure out something.
Thats so sweet. All top tips. Thanks for sharing
Brilliant!
❤❤❤ very smart ....😊
After much thought into it, i settled for the Acorn-180 due to the nature of my stairway which unfortunately isn't as straight forward simple as this due to having a 90-deg bend with a tight quasi spiral-like stairsteps type of design. But i'll likely consider a DIY solution like in this video for my other stairway which happens to be a similar straight type of design. But instead of wooden planks (which i have to wonder how long these can last before breaking up ?!?) i'll likely use some metal sliding door rails or metal C-sections instead to position the seat castor wheels onto.
Hello sir, thank you soooo much. I am 55 y.The cartilage in both my knees is gone and I have painful arthritis. Here in Belgium, the price of these elevators is ten thousand euros and it takes three minutes to reach the 13th step. I showed this video to my husband, who is an engineer. He promised to make me one like this. I hope you are always happy and healthy, kind and loving💕💕💕
I've built a hillside lift that has a hand control mounted at the top. Has a remote to run the DC wench, but you have answered how to make it both top and bottom controlled by riding it down! I have looked for this answer over and over again and just found it at 1am tonight on your video. Thank you sir for this video. You have answered all I need. Especially the fact I can go AC now. Excellent video!!!!
Love your creativity and technical knowledge. Thanks for sharing!
Make you another one as a backup to change out while you are repairing the other one.
Good idea
Great job!!! I'd like to know how you prevented the auto cord winder from locking up please!
Nice, you just need a call button to retrieve the chair if it's on the other end. However, I suspect that you could probably purchase the actual rails and chair directly from the factory in China, it's just calculating how many segments and what turns you want without ordering too many extras.
I love that you said that you are only 70😂 Great attitude. Thanks so much for sharing your build. I suggested this to my sister in law for my brother who is dealing with MS. Have a great day.😊
Genius
Fantastic thanks
Genius
Just watched your video. This is fantastic. I wish i could have confidence to build this.
Like to speak with you sir I would like to build the same thing for my wife .need more details on the winch I am in the USA
The Cetus X is the best micro drone I've had . It wouldn't bind to my RadioMaster controller and I'm past trying to do it on a computer so bought a BetaFpv Lite 3 controller which binded easy . Both excellent so I'm sure getting my money's worth 😅
This is awesome my friend it's so good to see people still have that diy mentality seems like that is a trait that is disappearing through the generations. Been thinking about something similar for our aging dog this gives me some good ideas. Very good job. I appreciate the video.
Wow I’m impressed looks great
Bravo!
Hello Barry, now that you have 1000 subscribers, you can apply for monetization on TH-cam for your channel. Then YT will advertise before and after your videos and you will make money.
Great 👏🏻
Great job Barry! That's something to be proud of
I m sure there are thousands out there will benefit from your practical and cheap set up,what a genius idea..thank a lot ..god bless a man like you..for kindful sharing
What happens if the cable snaps....does the entire chair then fly down the stairway or are there some emergency stop override ?
Probably
He has stated several times in the comment section that he chose not to install the safety stop system. Each to their own. I personally am going to attempt to build one that runs on ac and dc battery back-up. And I am choosing to build a ratchet style system. For the rails I have decided to use "c" channel that the rollers actually fit into so it cannot derail. But his system, his age, the material choice and availability is all amazing and totally inspiring.
Why don't they sell DYI chair lift kits? there are plenty of folks with advanced carpentry and mechanical skills that don't need a professional installer. These folks are frequently doing without chair lifts because of the price of having it installed. What number of tragedies is that causing? This looks like a safe design except for the top of the stairwell, because the seat doesn't advance into the landing. I'd be afraid an elderly or disabled person would slip and fall as they made their first step down to have a seat on it
Wow. I need this. Just had a pool installed but can’t afford the $4000+ price.
Love this. I wish you could demonstrate how to make the trolley etc that would just be awesome. Either way very innovative of yourself and ingenious
Dude you’re a hero. I bet this helped so many people
Thanks for sharing your project with us me need this old legs hav arthritis bad and hard to walk so ya made it look easy and ya dont need to be a rocket scientist to do this so thumps up 👆 ya got thissigned up for adventure mighty fine Sir carry on 😊from Canada 🍁 SK later
This is dangerous. You have no safety features. If the anchor point at the top of the stairs fails, the seat with the weight of the winch and passenger with cause it to roll down the rails at a high speed, causing serious injury. Also, as one commenter said, if you should put too much weight on the foot rest the whole contraption will tilt off the rails.
You could use a tension safety brakes such as what made Otis Elevators famous. However, I agree with you that most of these winch based DIY solutions omit such basic safety considerations which really wouldn't be too hard to implement... Another thing these DIY solutions do are to use horizontal rails rather than cantilever off a vertical rail for a smaller footprint and less of a trip hazard. The other detail often missed are call buttons. Fortunately, this ine at least have switched to stop the winch once the chair reachs it's destination though I would've used a photoelectric eye as well as a rubber stop and overcurrent cutoff in case the sensors fail. What these imperfect DIY solutions tell me id that stair assist installers overprice their installations. I remember that during the early days of Ali-express, you could order the rails and chair direct from the manufacturer in China for a veey low price. Listings for these are terribly difficult to find now. I suspect that we won't see improvements in cost till 3d printers can work with stronger materials (commercial 3d printers and CNC machines already do but aren't really affordable for the home DIY'er yet).
It's a good idea when you're attracting salesman😅
Brilliant! Nicely done!
Interesante pero a mí en vez la silla necesito plataforma para la silla de ruedas, mi mamá no puede apenas moverse.
Nice
Brilliant Barry! It's not only perfectly functional, it's also a very nice looking and tidy construction. Thanks for sharing.
Get a remote control for the switch, and you can call it down, or up. or a winch with this feature.
That’s fantastic! My mother needs one….is there a way you could post pics or explain exactly what it looks like on the bottom? I’m a carpenter, but not clear on how you attached those wheels ……thanks!
I think it is great , could you give me the domination , and did you have to modify your extention cord , I looked at some and the plugs where reversed ..
you are a true genius. great savings
Awesome!
