Kingston Rule was a lookalike son of the brilliant U.S. Triple Crown winner SECRETARIAT.
boy they went slowly in this early. Everything back in the field pulled.
Another one of our Legendary Horses Bernborough 😏 and He was also a really Big Boy like Phar Lap ❤😂
Veandercross should have won 😢
My grandfather bred Bernborough. Incredible horse.
To be checked that many times in the straight and to still come back and win what an awesome performance that was
Should upload the entire race
Race caller Jim Carroll
Eric Welsh was the race caller
Should,ve won the Caulfield Cup there Shane Dye rode him upside down
This was a terrible field but Red Anchor deserves his 127 Timeform rating for putting a space in them. Them being the older horses. Street Cafe actually ran a nice race and was somewhat underrated.
Spot on. Red Anchor broke the race record, set by the 3yo filly Surround previously. He was also a 3yo in this Cox Plate and was eased in the last 50m... Great article about him recently @ "KingsOfTheTurf". It's a great site for Australian racing history and anecdotes. Cheers.
What a great race and a great champion
SIR TRISTRAM .. ZABEEL .. OCTAGONAL .. LOHNRO .. Sir Patrick Hogan Cambridge Stud ...N.Z.
Flemington on 14 March 1970
Which racecourse was it?
What a horse! That was a tough season with Marceau, Bold Zest and Blazing Saddles (who he beat in The Slipper) all going on to impressive stud careers, but Luskin Star beat them there as well. A Champion.
He got checked the champ!!
This one should be the 2018 Turnbull Stakes instead of Underwood, which is held at Caulfield instead of Flemington.
I sore Luskin Star win the Slipper and Champagne stakes and the sires produce but I cannot find a replay of that race anymore. I once sore it on Remember When show
Her owner and trainer, the Zew Zealand horse racing legend passed away peacefully on late Friday 26 April 2024, aged 90.
R.I.P lonhro you were a magnificent horse and we all love you
I thought lonny was going to get beat but to go backwards and come out again against this great field says alot
Muhteşem bir atmış onu kapanmasına rağmen kazanmayı bildi gerçek bir karakter gerçek bir savaşçı ve yarış içerisinde sonlara dogru çok diri ve sürekli vücudunu ileriye etıyor
Fly high mighty Lonhro, you’ve earned your wings and your legacy will live on in generations to come!
What a Champion he was, and he beat the best there was at the time more than once including the great makybe diva , sunline, mummify and grand armee. As good as winx was she never would have beaten Lonhro at his very best over 2000m at flemington. R.i P. Champ
Him and his dad were 2 of the best
RIP u absolute bloody legend!!
Rip lohnro what a legend he was my all time favourite
Vale Lonhro. One of the greatest races.
RIP lonhro
She did us kiwis so proud
Never seen the full race just the last 400
I remember being 11 yo listening to this race on my red pocket radio. I had my $3 pocket money on her.
Great horse nearly pipped might n power but as might and power did both won caulfield cup and Melbourne cup double
A favourite of mine. A freakish sprinter who was ruined by greedy connections who ran him in the 2-mile Melbourne Cup
I've listened to a few race callers in the US and in Europe and they😊 could get a few tips listening to this guy haha. But what a horse, to be able to get a bad check like that in the straight and still come back and win.
indeed, Aussie race callers are in a league of their own - a group of us had the good fortune of sharing a table with some Australian punters who made the journey to see Zenyatta run in the 2010 Classic at Churchill - an amazing run to even finish in the money let alone beaten a head by Blame - the Aussies were impressed and i remarked 'but for a little racing luck and some stretch trouble...' and Kerry says ' ya no mate, pulls his computer around and says this is what passes for not even a Buckley's chance in hell' and plays the video - i've shown it dozens and dozens of times and the reaction is almost always the same 'how the hell...'
This is the first time i've seen a replay since the race was run, wasn't there that day or when he won the sires, was at the slipper, i was 12 at the time, my favourite horse of all time and i still follow his bloodline even though i don't bet anymore. The Colossal Colt from the Coalfields.
Title says 1974 however video says 1973 seems 1974 is correct
All Shot won the 1974 CF Orr Stakes. The title on the video related to the 1973/74 racing season.
@@turfmonthly3806 1973C F Orr LONGFELLA 1 ZAMBARI 2 and ALL SHOT 3
I believe this horse is in the same class as Tulloch, Phar Lap, Kingston Town, Winx, Gunsynd and Carbine
It was some horse
A gut stirring win much like his dad did in the same race years earlier
One of the most underrated racehorses in History. Was a superstar in Australia and then in the US...
Nice. From memory Roy Higgins rode Salamander but had the chance to ride Hyperno but opted for Salamander. I think Cummings was asked by the media if he felt Higgins judgement was flawed making that call. Cummings shot it down in flames, basically said there was almost nothing between the two horses at the end, there was nothing wrong with Higgins judgement.
How many Handicap Races did Winx win?Any ? Only raced WFA too scared too take on the Handicapper only Raced in Brisbane Sydney Melbourne no where else name 1 Champion She beat? Sunline Beat Testarossa Tie the Knot etc these horses won 6-7 Group 1s each we won in Hong Kong & got 3rd in Dubai on a unsuitable track the straight was 700m long & she was a Sitting Duck out in Front & was run down and got 3rd
Great horse who is sadly overlooked nowadays.
These horses are probably dead by now.
I reember this horse and it won me lots of money over its career, as it payed some really big prices for some of his wins .
got him @ 18-1 he dropped 7 kgs in weight for this race and was ideally placed and ridden.
My girl 💜 Fond memories of taking her through the jumps on the bush block, bareback over jumps. She was truly magical 🌻
Was there as a kid. The crowd noise was like nothing be e er heard . Magnificent looking chestnut
