Tribute to the late, great Drummer Billy Thom of Dunblane.

A play along to the March strathspey and reel off Bobby MacLeods classic recording “The Man From Tobermory”. Billy Thom was in my opinion the greatest drummer ever to grace the traditional Scottish dance band scene. He transformed the style of drumming,he was an innovator,An inspiration and an incredibly talented drummer. I can’t play anything like Billy but I played along on my practise pad as...

Fiddlers on the bus back from culliovie
City Heat is a cute, comedy crime film. Its no classic like Smokey And The Bandit, but its not as bad as critics make it out to be. The film Dick Tracy reminded me alot of City Heat in scope and style (imitating a 1930s type crime film noir. Unfortunately-except for The Sting-those kinds of films-movies attempting to copy 1930s film noir style-are usually not well recieved).
Dolly Parton is a happily married woman and has been for many years. She was probably just joking about humping Burt Reynolds. Either that or the story is just another one of Burt Reynolds's exaggerations.
Burt Reynolds:"I used to tell the story that we were fired the same day. We werent but we were fired the same year." Clint Eastwood:"He loves to tell that story."
I never understand stars discussing their private lives in interviews. Thats why it's called PRIVATE. Because its info only for the person.
A great moment at 0:42 !
Saw Jim play at Jamie's Scottish Evening show when I visited Scotland in 1993. His band was great and the show was hosted by Bill Torrance and featured Mary Cameron. Good seeing Marie and the audience clap their hands as he played his medley.

Fabulous

Love that the orchestra played Timour The Tartan at the end of their first set. One of my favorite tunes. I recorded this on VHS back then and only today figured out what that was.
Andy's last recorded performance before his death. You can see that his health is already failing.
March 1993
My Dear friend Has Just had a stroke sha She is Scottish living on the gold coast Australia J Ust music from the old days
As a Scot, this is purely a stiff version of a traditional reel. Everyone looks like battery operated figures. I remember Jim Macleod & his band well, half the time they were somewhat over the drink limit most of the time.
🌺🌺🌺👏
Weird how they used an American born from a Lithuanian family violin player (albeit brilliant) to lead the fiddle ensemble when there were some many grand Scottish fiddlers.
Sir Yehudi had a great love of Scottish fiddle music and was a passionate exponent and researcher of it, documentary on such is on TH-cam. He’s quite old at this point and his bowing is very shaky albeit brilliant as you say
Amazing! what's the name of the first dance?
First tune is Skinner's CRADLE SONG
Burt you 're phenomenal ❤ talented gentleman and amazing actor I 've ever seen in my life better than brando Newman and others actor of sixsties and seventise and of corse eighties
Fantastic.
What a life what a time in history
A legend - no doubt, so down to earth
What an attractive man ...one of the legends has left us
My childhood hero smokie and the bandit rip burt
Love it
Burt, maybe didn't have the acting ability of Brando...he could charisma him off the park, though!
What happened to this car because i have 1 the same
I still gave it though I haven’t had the chance to do much to it at all. But I still have it safe in my possession. Too much sentimental attachment to part with it. You say you have one? What condition is yours in ? Are you in the UK? I’m in central Scotland.
I still have it,not made a lot of progress but I still have it.
He is playing one of very very few known Gola Prototypes. I know
No, not the Gola. These are earlier versions of the Morino V, domino couplers, and nice boxes.
Neil is said to be a pupil of Gordon Patullo.I have a Shielburn CD of them.Great playing indeed!Owen Fielding on Keys? Brother of the legendary Marie Fielding, one of the outstanding fiddlers in the Scene of Scottish Dance Bands
Yeah he had a messy divorce, have fights on tv shows and slap reporters
In the 70s and 80s he was on top of the world.
Should be able to ID the Hohners they're both playing but can't. Don't think they're Golas but dunno. When did Jim swap his Crucianelli?
4:19 imagine them roles reversed
Is that a Hohner Gola? Jim seems to have a different 'box' in every video on here. He was a master of them all. I got a 120bass midi'd Crucianelli some years ago, similar to one he used to have but it was too big for me. When did he switch to Hohners?
how did I miss this?! Damn.
Are YT deliberately screwing around with videos to stop downloads? . Several sound jumps in this!?
???????????????? I’m not doing a single thing. This was recorded onto VHS as far as I’m aware and the Clios with Jim and Ian were copied onto DVD to save it onto a digital format. As we’re all aware VHS was never fantastic quality-Betamax was streets ahead for picture reproduction quality-so the upload onto TH-cam on this account/my account was pretty good. No jumps or stuttering or anything,I’ve not played about with it or at this moment “deliberately playing about with it”. Any playback issues etc are not down to me.
I miss Burt and his stories...right there with Jimmy Stewart. Rest in peace Mr. Reynolds...wish I had met you.
a story told to me by your father, young george sitting on the arm rest between front seats traveling at 90 mph and your sister looks at speedo and say make it go up another 3 spaces
my husband remembers the the day your father got that car jhv ****
Ford Fairlane 500 JHV351N Was purchased by my father from skelly’s, Cumbernauld road in or a round near stepps I think I’m right in saying? I’m a bit too young to remember it the purchase as I was born in September 1972 and it was around October 1976 when my late father bought it. He apparently went through to get some more information about the Ford fairmont and get some leaflets, brochures etc and go home and do more homework when he said the salesman gave him some information and brochures then said “I’ve got a nearly new Ford Fairlane here that you might like and be interested in”.....my father replied “that’s the American things with all the chrome and fins at the back, that’s not really my thing”.....he said the salesman said,no not that type of fairlane, come on let me show you this one,I think you’ll like this car” when my father saw it he just fell in love with it straight away! Had a seat in it,looked around and I think had a test drive in it,put a deposit down and arranged when he would be back through to collect it and pay the balance! It’s a very long term project of mine now as it lay off the road from around 1986 and my father simply wouldn’t part with it,he loved it,we’ve had other American cars between us since, myself having a 1999 mustang and a 1981 turbo Transam -both of which I still have-but he says the only car that came close to driving and feeling like the Fairlane was a 1998 Honda Accord coupe 3.0V6 which he had for a Few years before he passed away in January 2012. Thanks for commenting,Another piece of history clicks into place. There’s hardly any of these left in the country,I hear stories of a 4 door same as this painted green was up at a classic car show in scone Perthshire but haven’t seen it and about 4 years back I saw one parked up outside a classic car show in the grounds of Stirling rugby club painted yellow and in lovely condition and I waited and spoke to the owner. I’m sure he said he bought it from down south and has been offered crazy money for it time and time again but simply won’t sell it! There is a father and son have a 2 door falcon P reg which shows up at some shows and a guy in the Strathclyde area has a dark burgundy Landeau but I haven’t seen it for a long time. Love these cars. I just need a lottery win or more hours in the day to work on them all! So chuffed with your comment! Another piece of this great cars history! Thank you so much!
It looks full size to me not mini
Nice try, but definitely way off of what the movie trucks were like.
Amazes me that they chose to use USA born Yehudi Menuhin (albeit great) rather than one of the Scottish Hall of Fame fiddlers - such as Ian Powrie, Angus Fitchett, Aly Bain, Alasdair Fraser.
Brilliant
Absolutely Brilliant all great tunes and always great Jim Johnston’s band. Great to find this oldie on You Tube.
Amazing truck !
Probably the best accordion in the world played by definitely the best Scots accordionist. Slainte Jim! :)
ALWAYS LIKED HIM
brilliant
Burt Reynolds the best actor 👍🏼🙏
I remember playing those Shetland gigs with you guys, long time ago now!
