    Hey everyone! I first want to say I'm deeply sorry for missing this after committing to being on it! I had to call a sick day today, and I woke up in the middle of the day. In leiu of that, here's my big takeaway from this! ** I'm very excited that the show and that @ClocktwoerAdvisors is expanding beyond community. A lot of people are leaving the Community cocoon BUT and I think that's a good thing. We are expendainng from community to other areas BUT I want to caution a lot of the businesses and enterprises who are expanding that there is a difeerence between burgeoning out into the world, and ignoring the community in favor of traditional practices. One allows us to spread a message of community to create a better virtual world. The second is a return to the status-quo of traditional marketing. ** For our 2024 goals I'm very excited about being unable to predict 2024. I love that Bri's approach to life design will keep us on track and accountable, but I'm wondering right now if that's necessary? ** Astrosociology sounds phenomenal and crazy! We're considering now what the implications of communities in space! To me it seems like a natural next-step to transcultural world where socieities are no longer attached to the geological tethers that we traditionally view community in. I love that idea so very much.

    My go-to method is to start getting feedback from the members first. Most of the doom loops I've encountered are more content related rather than platform issues or eroded trust. I like to check in to make sure that what the community was built for is what the community still needs.

    • @clocktoweradvisors
      @clocktoweradvisors ปีที่แล้ว

      I love that orientation... "what the community was built for is what the community still needs." Those needs definitely evolve and need to be regularly evaluated. It's one of the reasons I regularly recommend a documented community governance plan. Thanks for the great comment, Carolyn!

    DEI, Destroying Employee Initiative. This was a comment a CEO client offered. His position is absent any proof the company has a DEI deficiency; forcing employees through DEI training with no evidence it's needed is demoralizing for employees. Likely the reason there are so many media comments about DEI folks being shown the door. So if DEI is such a big deal, prove it, and cite instances where addressing DEI measurably improved business metrics. How many consultants base their DEI consulting fees on the bottom line business improvement, like the income statement, margins, or revenue? DEI is another talent industry canard like trust, employee engagement, employee experience, new work, well-being, etc. Conflating digital initiatives with results is the same mistake.

    • @RecruiterX17
      @RecruiterX17 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow Je, you seem to have a pretty dim view of the topic of DEI initiatives, one which I’m afraid we don’t share. I’m suspicious of uncritical dismissals and acceptances alike, personally.

    "doom loop" what a perfect way to describe what can happen in a community, Todd! I work mostly in Mighty Networks and we call it "the Dip" - when things are going great, and then all of a sudden things just slack off, or it seems like everyone's attention has been pulled elsewhere. Your description above is perfect! What I am thinking a lot about these days is about NOT having just one person paying attention to the cadence in a community. It's exciting in the beginning or the "visionary" to but everything they (we) have into building it, but that's not sustainable, so finding folks inside your community with complementary skills, personalities and reasons for being there to help keep the energy at a sustainable level is critical. My question now is: what is that ideal online community MVO Minimum Viable Org for sustaining that energy!

    • @RecruiterX17
      @RecruiterX17 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the validation @athenavillage. I've seen this happen to a number of communities over te years. When you get to a point in the community life cycle where you've hit a wall usually indicates that something has changed with the original purpose of the community coming into conflict with member needs. How have you addressed "the Dip" when you've seen it?

    • @clocktoweradvisors
      @clocktoweradvisors ปีที่แล้ว

      Kelly, you are really touching upon an important notion--how to scale community engagement. There's no such thing as a hero of community, just lots of people who see the value and want to contribute. Knowing how to recruit and keep those teams engaged is a true art form. How I wish there was a formula for a MVO as you describe, but I suspect we'd need a lot more study from social science researchers!

    Todd, I LOVE when you do a deep dive like this!! I also love hearing what stood out for you. And I, too, caught many of the inconsistencies between this year’s and last year’s report. I hope CMX sees this as constructive feedback to make the 2024 report the best one yet!

    • @clocktoweradvisors
      @clocktoweradvisors ปีที่แล้ว

      That's my sincere hope, Jenny! Like I said in the first video, it's not perfect, but it's ours. I just want to see these reports become as useful and reliable as possible. Thanks for your kind words!

  • @Huge008
    @Huge008 ปีที่แล้ว

    While the report provides interesting data points, I find the gaps in the methodology somewhat disappointing. In particular, the smaller sample size of surveyed professionals, and the disproportionate representation of the U.S. As CMX keeps growing internationally, perhaps the years to come will present a more holistic view.

    • @RecruiterX17
      @RecruiterX17 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is exactly my feeling! I’d also like to see us getting away from the self selection bias of these reports.

    The technology tool targeted at the "talen industry" has evolved exponentially for the past few decades. How do you explain that there are virtually no examples of repeatable and sustainable solutions to EE/EX levels that transformed EE/EX to the extent the impact was noticeable in the bottom line. Employee data has never been the problem; leadership has ignored actionable employee data for decades. Not much has happened, notwithstanding the technology. Imagine giving your EE/eX sales pitch to the CEO and officers. Here are the questions you must be prepared to answer. "where have you done this before? How long did it take for the results to begin showing? How were the results measured? What was the CEO's role, and how did you overcome the blocking that we always see from management and leadership. What percent of your fees were based on financial improvements? Were the results sustainable?" You can see that as long as HR remains the focal point, nothing is likely to happen except for the disengagement that always results from asking and not doing.? Neither HR nor technology providers can force change on disinterested leadership. AI will suffer the same fate. Imagine that after ignoring actionable EE/EX survey results for decades, leaders will say, "Well, the algorithm says we have to do this? Silly, don't you think? Ai won't make a difference in engagement, maybe productivity, but not voluntary engagement.

    • @clocktoweradvisors
      @clocktoweradvisors ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are definitely valid points, @jesmith9975. It's no easy task to improve EE/EX, especially when solutions aren't one-size-fits-all and leadership doesn't always leverage employee data effectively. And you're right - while AI has its uses, it's no magic solution. The key as I see it is that real change requires buy-in from everybody, especially the leadership team. Thanks for adding your ideas - these are complex issues that need more discussion. -Todd

    • @jesmith9975
      @jesmith9975 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clocktoweradvisors “buy-in from everybody” There’s only one buy-in needed, which cannot be skipped. The CEO. For over 20 years, I’ve been doing EE/EX projects exclusively reporting to the CEO, always basing the fees on the financial results delivered by EE/EX. Management and leadership are always the problem. If you cannot challenge their blocking, you cannot transform EE. HR knows this, and the employees know this. The attached article is just one of our stories. The CEO asked a single survey question, and we collected the responses and challenged the blockers right up to the CEO’s staff meeting. Once the employees saw what was happening, the input rose exponentially, in one case going from 800 to 4700 in seven days when a sacred cow was eliminated. Transparency is the best solution; not one executive in 20 years chose to defend their blocking in front of the CEO and peers. All this took only ten weeks. Not even the best chef can make an omelet without breaking the eggs chiefexecutive.net/employee-engagement-ceos-actually-listening/

    Thanks a lot! Helpful tips. My biggest challenge is to where is the border between self expression and respect of others. I'm creating an online community for creative people and self expression is very valuable but sometimes it happens so that someone's self expression becomes borderline violation of others comfort. It's along the lines of toxic communication and gaslighting which are very different to trace and to state in the rules. Any suggestions how to manage that and create a safe space where people would feel comfortable to be volnurabol but also respectful and not limiting themselves too much not in their self expression in thoughts of not hurting others.

If you can send me a direct message there we can set up a time to chat and hopefully find you a valuable way forward. The high level advice is that it’s about setting expectations through communicating rules and etiquette, modeling desired behaviors and praising what you’d like to see more of. But let’s talk!

    One correction, I realized after the stream that while it may be possible to put up an Etsy shop and sell merch based on your NFT, there's no current way I can think of that you can automatically send those proceeds from sales back to the original creator, although by rights I think you ought to if that's part of the NFT contract.
