What Did Trans-Fix DO?? - Acura TL ALMOST Left Me STRANDED!
Thanks I need to hear this! I have a 2004 Acura that I do preventive maintenance on a regular basis and I can always pick up something new! I did the bypass filter about 4 years ago and only used all OEM parts (it is a Honda product so there will be a Honda dealer part for it, probably cheaper than at the Acura dealer). I drain and fill every 30k miles on the trans fluid, again only using OEM fluids. Thanks for sharing a job that is often neglected!
@@donjohnson3701 thanks for the feedback and glad you're on top of this maintenance. Save the TL's!
Bad tensioner design Honda went down
They dun mess up.
Looks Onion sized to me
I wouldn't mind that either!
I watched another youtube video and tue guy couldn't stress enough on being careful putting the pcv valve on. He said to tighten it with the connection being dead straight and keeping it dead straight all the time. He also had a neat trick for putting the washer on , he put the washer on a long screwdriver and put the screwdriver in the hole and let the washer make 9t's way to the bottom.
Did you flash the ecu to the bcm and immobilizer mod's on your new York bucket great vid keep up the work
@@ioe12 no, I don't flash anything. It's a good idea though but that would be crazy if that was the issue if the immobilizer somehow got broken and that's what caused the no start issues. Thanks also!
is your CTS a 3.0? do you know if the location is the same for the 3.6L? Other than those questions this video was very helpful. Very Very helpful
@@robotrodney glad to help! But mine is the 3.6L. It SHOULD be similar location but, of course, the engines are different.

@bigmangozg2677 if I got a tune, maybe different but 04 TLs are impossible to do so. All other years are good though.
how did these break?
@@wolleyreikivalley little too much tapping. I usually like to take a piece of wood and tap the cover so it starts to move out but I think 286,000 miles and doing this job multiple times it became fragile over time.
Sam. Great video. Was curious about your sub count if you did everything TL?! How often do you replace that filter? My transmission was rebuilt 50k and no idea if they replaced filter! With that said, the fluid is still red. Thoughts?
@@mrdave777 I'm curious too! I love my TL and all of them and do so much work on them. I think it would be beneficial to the channel, overall. More videos coming! But with rebuilds, they usually do not replace filters, solenoids or pressure sensors. It's weird, I know, but on any manufacturer, that's what happens. Probably cost savings because a rebuild is already so much. But if your fluid is still red and doesn't smell burnt, sounds like it's doing well! You can wait a bit more for the filter then but the fluid is recommended around 40-50K miles for a drain and fill.
@@mrdave777 oh, but I swap my filter if I do a 3x3 drain and fill or if things start smelling or looking worn with fluid.
You didn't do anything wrong. The specification is wrong. I have put these in cars and even if you buy the OEM, you will snap them if you go to a full 33 foot pounds. People will tell you that somehow the OEM ones are magical. They're not. Maybe when these cars were made they were steel valves. But now when you buy them, they're aluminum. These are very soft valves and if you tighten them to 33, they shear off. I don't even think it's worth trying to put a toque wrench on them. Put them sensibly tight with a normal extension handle and call it good.
@@JulietHotelFoxtrot thanks for verifying that. I would agree, it's highly likely they started using softer metal thus we get these results.
Dropping a conment for the algorithm since no one else has yet. Damn smoke. What's the gameplan?

@@Nebulation awesome! Glad your trans is behaving a bit better now! Haha, the Civic is just a basic car... Ain't no luxury...(sadly)
@@GTSam Ya, my biggest gripe is the passenger seat sensor. This has been out for years and I refuse to replace it because the cost is about half the value of the car. Seems to be not an uncommon issue either.
@Nebulation is that for the airbag sensor?
@@GTSam yes, that part is 1k new. I'm contemplating bypassing it, or just replacing the seat.
@Nebulation dang. Can't get that pulled from a yard or eBay?
Can this filter be installed reverse? My mechanic installed it with the larger section downward where the bracket mounts it. The rim/lip is top side.
I very much say no but they don't exactly say "flow" with an arrow pointing a direction. But opening it up, you can see how it works and it may be okay. If you can flip it around, it may be a good idea. That's just me.
all those custom exhaust mufflers sound just like this.. So you just got it for free.
@@mrchad97z49 haha! Who knew rust was so handy?
what do you do when you are hungry and need a shower?
Bring your meal with you in the shower. I recommend a sandwich. Much easier to hold.
26:24 that is what I was thinking too. "Loosen the main front and rear mounts" and probably even the passenger side!.. The reason is because the engine block and the transmission doesnt flex and they are bolted together as 1 solid unit. I know that is a no-brainer.. But in order to move the transmission up, which is bolted to the engine, the whole unit has to be loosened so you can lift even just that 1 end by the wheel. (because it doesnt flex)
Right!
Nicely done, some Dawn, water, bucket, and a rag will go a long way lol. Just wash it by hand.
Indeed haha. Mini cleaning did wonders!
I just finished my Filter change job, took about three hours, i went four but took a hour break to re watch some videos and wash up have a drink . My car is 16 years old, an 09 civic and the hoses were baked on. I used a small pick tool as the hose removal tool wouldn't work with several extra minutes of just trying to loosen the hoses. i couldn't get to the upper clamp of the lower hose so i removed the lower clap to the trans line. it was still a pain. The Air cleaner box removal was a pain like most people have getting it off. Then after finally getting new hoses and filter with the old clamps the mounting bracket gave me trouble but finally got it on and got the bolt started, getting the bolt started is pain to be contended with. A mechanic shop probably would've charged me 3 hours labor at 125 an hour plus double the cost of the filter, so about 400 bucks for this job. Now that i did it i decided its done and wont happen again! Its one of those jobs that's like climbing Mt Everest but once done... I find that it helps to know where the likely areas that will be trouble are. Like getting the hold down bolt in the rear right of the sir cleaner box, getting access to the clamps etc. but its not impossible for anyone determined to save money, but just be prepared. have all the tools and have new hoses and i would replace the clamps with standard worm gear clamps it would save time ,effort and some swearing etc.!
Way to stick with it!
@@GTSam I was thinking the best way might be to just cut/pry off the old hose clamps since they are such a PITA. then use the other type of clamps ( Worm gear style) and put on the filter with the bracket first before connecting a hose. taking out the hoses and filter as a unit helps and at least sometimes needed. It is so much easier to use a stubby flat blade screwdriver than try to get a big flat- nose or even a needle nose on those clamps. I took off the heater hose bracket but not the hoses themselves. but that also could've saved time, i just didn't want to dear with bleeding the radiator or adding some fluid there. I just noticed, you didnt remove the cowl panel body part above, i took mine off along with the metal piece with the nine bolts and that took a while as far as overall time of my job but it gave more room and a little more light down below with them off.
Hi sorry quick question, the small bolt 5:24 holding the filter cap is stripped and I can’t seem to get a good grip on it, Any tips or solutions?
@@clips-4610 not the grounding cable, right? So, if you have a smaller socket for wrench, try tapping that on to get a good enough grip. Small vice grips could work. A small monkey wrench (pipe wrench) would work wonders too, if you could get it on there. Otherwise, a specialized socket to remove stripped bolts may be your last option.
Not sure how many miles on this car, but other than the fluid looking kinda dark, the trans looked pretty clean and free of debris. Although a fluid change was in order, do you think that filter changes were actually necessary? There is not a lot clutch wear in a CVT since there is only the convertor and reverse clutches. From what I could see of the used filters, they looked pretty clean as well. 🤔 Looks like you did this outside, on the ground, on a cold day. I admire your ambition, I had the same ambition when I was younger. Your buddy is lucky to have you as a friend.

How critical is the heat shield on the front motor mount? I realized the previous mechanic tossed it. I went ahead and replaced the front motor mount but missing the shield.
Well, it could cause accelerated wearing out on the rubber and then could crack and break faster. Might be able to find an eBay listing for that. Something used.

Recirculation of in cabin air.
@@jeffreyadkins5014 yep but no one ever gets to see what moves when that happens.
I attempted this today, stripped one of the bolts on water pump cover, tool 1.5 hours to cut it off with hacksaw, loosened the two engine bolts closest to engine and dropped it maybe an inch, low enough to get to pivot bolt, repeatedly sprayed the bolt with penetrating and used a 350 lb per ft impact wrench,it wouldn’t budge after trying for an hour, put everything back with a new belt, and will get a professional to try.
I just did this a few days ago too. I thought the water pump wheel bolts were sketchy (of stripping) after a few attempts so i waited till i dropped the engine and used a 7.5a impact wrench (240lb think) and a swivel joint to loosen those. They came right of with that. For the big bad hex bolt. If if you oscilate between tightening and loosening and see even a nudge of movement on the bolt, there's hope! I sprayed a bunch of rust penetrant in the area one dat. The next day i tried loosening it with the impact gin for several minutes, but it did nothing. I tried heating it with a heat gun, and that didnt work. Finally I tried tightening and loosening and saw there was a hair of movement, but after a few more minutes i couldnt get it loose. So i sprayed more rust penetrator on left it for the next day. The next day i sprayed more stuff (lquid wrench) on and got back to the forward-backward motion for maybe 5 more minutes and it finally broke free! There was no rust on it, but i could see the pentratimg oil had come in through the back of the bolt. I think time and the back-forward motion helped slowly move it down the bolt to where it was loose enough to break free. Ftr, I wasnt keeping track of time so may have been going at it longer than 5 mins at a time...maybe 10.
You should've losen all the engine and transmission mount to replace that one that you couldn't install, thats what did and didn't have to grind anything. When you install that top transmission mount just don't tighten it till you install the one you was having problems with. Just my 2 cents because it worked for me. 😮
Thanks for your video! I would like to know where I can read the details for the belt lengths?
@@tianchenghuang6437 one of the best ways to do that may be for OEM lengths, go to a dealers parts site and put your car details in and find the belt for the tensioner. It could show length details on there but if not, take that part number and go to like RockAuto and paste that into there and then you should be able to see the details on their belts too.
Same thing happened to me today. I got one of those genuine Honda pcv valve for my 2006 Honda civic from Amazon. I admit l used a 1/2 inch torque wrench and an extension and a converter to tighten it. But it is 33 ft/lb so I thought I can get away with that setup. Plus I remove the cowl plate so I can access the bolt with my socket straight down. It snapped right in there and I swear it was not that much force I applied. I was luck enough to back it out and it didn’t damage the thread in there Thanks for making this video. Good to know I am not alone
@@local1487 welcome to the club! Haha but when you say "genuine" how much was it really? Amazon can be hit or miss too. Only time I do real is through the dealer or the like hondapartsnow site that are OEM and much cheaper.
