@simonproatl that's what I ended up doing because it only made sense. The only problem I had is I added too much product to the floor and my pan was hard to set and now is bowing up in the back middle slightly. I smashed it good as I could and left weights in the middle. There is still a lot of slope in pan itself where it's supposed to be and I poured water in it just to see how it drained. It drained good enough. I think the bow was not too much and since it is in the back the important slope was barely affected, if at all.

@@truthingrace3594 I'm glad that you were able to install it. Most people don't use any mortar and their fiberglass pans crack after few years.

By installing cement board 1/4" higher.

P trap is under the slab. If it leaks then you can smell it.

@ The smell I’m having now is not real strong….and it’s intermittent. It appears it MIGHT be coming from the outside edge of drain. I took off the drain cover to snake, clean and make sure P trap had water. I noticed the plumbers putty start coming out around the edge of drain when I was scrubbing with brush. I was going to unscrew the top of drain and reapply some plumbers putty (or silicone) but it appears the drain is cemented in. I don’t see any way to unscrew the inside of drain to pull out the top. I have solid corian walls and a solid coriander base. There is no crawl space. It APPEARS like if I need to reapply putty …or replace drain, I have to take out entire base. Wish I could attach a photo of inside of drain. Do you have any suggestions?

@@kingtutt61 There are many different types of drains used for showers pans. Shower with a shower pan liner and concrete pan will have a completely different drain than fiberglass or corian pan. Try to find a video on TH-cam that show how to install corian pan drain that way you have a better idea how it works.

Square and level are two must important tools!

You have to have some kind of framing otherwise you wont be able to attach the liner.

They just don't have enough experience and lack of common sense. The most important is to waterproof and install the inside cement board above the shower pan. If you don't have direct contact with the pan and everything is waterproofed then you don't have any problems. Most contractor install that inside piece of cement board all the way to the rubber liner and then they build a pan (this will cause problems) Cement boars will absorb moisture if summered in the pan especially if there is no pre slope. I replaced over 200 showers and some would hold 1" of water in them (especially the ones without a preslope and clogged weep holes)

First step is to install a shower drain then build a pre slope pan and waterproof it then rubber liner and shower pan. If you don't have a preslope pan water might accumulate in the liner. After several year you might smell a difference. If you install shower floor tiles and grout them and seal them with penetrating sealer before installing wall tiles it might help or even prevent water accumulating in the liner.

@@simonproatl So even with a pre-slope, liner, and shower pan, the drain stays flush with the original concrete floor?

@@GoLangley You can install it flush with the floor or 1/4" above it. If the drain sits higher, then your pre slope will have to be thicker near the walls and curb in order to function properly. Let say that your drain sits 1/2" above the floor and your farthest wall is 3 feet away from it then your pre slope will have to be 1 1/4" thick then you add 1 1/2 or more for shower pan. If you stack 3 - 2x4 for the curb that equals to 4 1/2". It's harder to install cement board and tiles on the curb inside the shower. You want to have a 1/4" gap between a shower pan and cement board that would make that piece of cement board very small and hard to install. Same with the tile because you have to install it after floor tiles. That's why I use thin set between concrete floor or plywood to straighten the dry pack mix when building a pre slope otherwise it crumbles.

@@simonproatl Thank you so much for your detailed response! My distance from the drain to wall is only 2 feet, meaning the slope only needs to be 1/2 in. Is there a general minimum thickness for a pre-slope + shower pan or is the 1/2 in total thickness good enough? Thanks in advance!

@@GoLangley Preslope pan is usually 3/4" thick and shower pan 1 1/2".

Yes I always use thin set before the mortar. I make it a lot stronger. I never had to remove anything like that.

The drypack was presloped, I've watched ALOT of pan videos this is the best one there is multiple layers of protection, I know the pan that was put into my shower is going to leak, fortunately it takes a long time to show up, and we don't use that shower very often at all maybe 2x a week tops

@@thelog86 Use a good tile sealer. I might give you some protection. Silicone corners with silicone that matches your grout.

There is a pre-sloped pan under the liner. You have to have a pre-sloped pan under your liner, otherwise water might accumulate in the liner.

Yes. I screw the cement board to a 2x4 and wrap it with the mesh and waterproof it.

Mortar don't have a lot of strength. You can make it stronger by compacting it or using fiberglass mesh.

I usually try to fold the liner instead cuting it but sometimes you just have to cut it and use a corner dams. I will try to show it in the future videos.
