Patellar Desmotomy in horse standing position, upward fixation of patella
Case of upward fixation of patella in horse
As we can see there is upward fixation of right leg patella
Its very difficult to walk normally
Horses totally can't do any work and are not in use
In such case there is only one solution and that is the patellar Desmotomy operation
Operation can be done in two ways 1st Standing and 2nd lateral recombancy
We prefer to do operation in standing.
In Standing, local anaesthetia is given at operation site under aseptic precuations.
The patella gets fixed above the trochlea of femur and medial stright ligament tightly overstretch behind the medial trochlear rigde which prevents downword return of the patella
The object of the operation is to mechanically bring down the patella by cutting the tensed medial ligament
Grove between medial and meddle patellar ligament is palpeted
Medial patellar ligament is cut by BP blade no.11
As soon as the medial patellar ligament is cut
The tensed medial patellar ligament is relaxed and the movement of patella becomes normal
Painkiller and antibiotics given
Horse is walking normally without any patellar fixation
This operation is known as magic operation as we can see the magic results after operation
On the next day of operation the happy owner with the normal horse

🇦🇺Wow!!!! Great job you and your team did for this unfortunate cow. This is a great learning tool for people to see that rubbish needs to be kept out of the environment. I’m sure that cow felt so much better after that and was keen to get a decent feed. Thank you for sharing your story.

What is the supportiv therapy after surgery ? Dr shab Why didn't you maintain hydration status during surgery in this case ? Could you clear this confusion if possible dr shab, I shall highly be thankful to you for this ❤
Iv fluids given before and after surgery Follow up with antibiotics painkiller and multivitamin give for next 5days

Around 21 days Or depends on the type of fracture
