Two Minutes of Backcountry Skiing in Mt Washington's (NH) Tuckerman Ravine
มุมมอง 2.2K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
If you want to see yourself doing this you need to ski blue squares at the least. Black diamond skiers preferred. Don't try this without doing your research. Tuckerman Ravine is very dangerous as it the sport portrayed in this short video. Best bet: hire a guide. Footage by Redline Guide Will Murphy. Edit by Mike Cherim. This time, however, due to high water levels and extreme heat and humidity, we changed up the plan leading the group to Arethusa Falls (one of the talles...

Cool!
Now we’re talking
good stuff!
This is the worst with low snowfall and only ice.. climbing up not too bad but climbing down is a whole another story
why are you wearing helmets? i mean, i know their purpose, but what’s dangerous about that work?
@@ddaavvee68 Widowmakers, deadfalls, tools in use nearby, I guess... plus we're required by the USFS to wear them for this (along with boots and long pants).
@ damn, that level of uneccasary government oversight is discouraging. kinda flies in the face of the “freedom of the hills”.
@ oh, well, we didn't mind too much.
@ then why weren’t you wearing one? 🙃
@@ddaavvee68 I was while working.
I’m thinking that we are not to feed bread to the birds…am I wrong?
@@karenhisko6465 this is true. It is anti-LNT to do so. So, following the letter of the law, don't do it. That said, playing devils advocate, the gray jays make their living mooching/robbing people so the level of "harm" may be minimal to non-existent. Also, it is a neat experience. I would argue that it might be acceptable to try it once, see how "friendly" (habituated) they are, then don't continue the practice.
At 72, I'll probably never do this trail again. Not for the faint of heart.
Great job getting down…I see many people at not just Tucks but resorts that are in areas or trails that they really aren’t ready for yet. Work your way up and the harder stuff will be fun to ski and not nerve racking. Stay safe everyone!
i hiked huntington ravine, its definitely challenging, but in all fairness some of these YT videos make it look way steeper than it is
Appreciate that, this makes it look near vertical, which i can appreciate too because some times when you're scrambling skiing whatever on film it doesn't seem nearly as steep, so I get when someone tries to exaggerate it
I am so sorry not to have seen any of the Alpine flowers. Was the trip in late Summer when the blooms were over?
Place them in a mason jar then open the freezer bag and flip inside down.... Voila!
Good idea
Bravo! (Good Guide = Good Glide)
So I see you guys are roped up for central gully. Are you belaying off some sorta anchor or just going up roped in?
I believed they "simulclimbed" it... the duo following were training, roped travel was in their future.
My local park i used to have HUNDREDS probaby thousands of ferns and was extremely lush until foreign immigrants started harvesting the fern tips and killed everything. Harvest sustainably please.
Wonderful video. I have climbed South and North Mountains and have explored the Boulder caves. Last mountains that I climbed with my mountain climbing partner who died last August. Brings back lots of memories. A high school classmate of mine was also an observer at that tower. He passed away last Spring so this is a special place. I have members of the Chase family in my genealogy on my Mom's side. Thank you for this trip down memory lane. I like the atmospheric background music which is so fitting.
Absolutely knows their stuff to do this! Kudos for the courage....
This is on my list. I’m planning to get guidance from Redline Guiding when I’m ready to try this.
Great Adventure ! Thanks for sharing !
I loved it but only because I had the good sense to get Redline Guiding to take me through and teach me how to handle it. I cannot stress enough for people to know its a good idea to know your limitations and seek guidance. You learn so much from these people!!! Great education!
Mt Washington always pays off, so many good thru lines and trails i love it up there
Nope not for me lol
I would think that was impressive if not for the diagonal filming
Yeah, it's all wonky and wide angle. Love it, though. I think this is near top out. The trail's legit, though this part not so much. Good eye.
💯 *Promosm*
You have to be committed to walk up a mountain before getting married. Also a great metaphor.
I mean it’s nice to look at. Over the internet lol. But give me sunshine and sandy beach any day.
Hell to the noooo
Until you're standing on the summit having conquered the mountain, the weather, and yourself in some cases... then it's hell to the yes! :)
How am I 55 and just tasting these now for the first time?!! 🤦♀️
I haven't tasted them yet but I will go buy some tomorrow!
I want to try these? Where can I find them? I live in Texas?
From Google: Most Fiddlehead Ferns grow in New England and parts of Southern Canada, but they can be found in any wet area along edges of rivers, streams, and in wet, swampy areas, even in South Texas. Wet is the key pattern for them.
Is the paper toxic? I’m paranoid about getting these cleaned enough. Thanks!
Not poisonous so don't worry too much.
@@RedlineGuiding wow, interesting, that’s what everyone is saying,,,that they’re poisonous. Ok thank you
@@sheriashton3591 you do want to remove everything as much as possible, but usually if stomach upset occurs it's because the fiddleheads weren't cleaned thoroughly enough and/or they weren't properly blanched to remove the tannins. I found this online. "Proper handling and thorough cooking of fiddleheads can reduce the risk of foodborne illness. Wash fresh fiddleheads several times in fresh cold water. Remove as much of the brown husk as possible from the fiddleheads. Cook in boiling water for 15 minutes or steam for 10 to 12 minutes until tender." I don't boil them for as long as this, though.
@@RedlineGuiding ok great, thank you for the further info. I thought boiling for that long would take away a good bite, I think they’ll soften too much but, I will def wash thoroughly and par boil, prob 5 to 10 min no longer
Interesting how you keep your friend "Guest" anonymous "for her own privacy, security, and protection", no doubt. (Her sunglasses do indeed help too keep her anonymous.)
I remember being there, wow I should have stayed longer
I found some a moment ago. They are fuzzy at the moment. I had them many yrs ago
Beware! If there's fuzz, they might not be fiddleheads.
@com2375 If they're fuzzy they're not edible the Edibles will have a celery like stock to them, in the edible fiddleheads will also have like a brown skin like that comes right off to the touch
Gutsy as heck!
I have these all over my property near Manchester. I’m looking for them to come up soon
Should just snap them. They don't care to much for being cut & can kill the pod.
I went up this solo in early March of '22 and it was a sheet of ice the whole way, unlike any of the footage I had seen online. Really wished I had automatic crampons and proper boots that day. Several cats turned around, but luckily a group ahead of me had fixed a rope for themselves and left it there. Summit and back before them to ensure the rope would be there for the descent. A day to remember for sure.
Did you ski this line recently? If so, is the ice still pretty present on the route or is it too filled in with snow to be a good ice climb? Thx
Holy sh*t that snow is deep! I've hiked Carter Dome several times, but always in the summer or fall, so I've never seen it like that. To be able to walk on the tops of the trees like you were, means the snow must be at least 6-8 feet deep. That's just incredible.
I love you all!!!!
Love it!
Beautiful, beautiful in winter!
I think I know that guy. :)
How to fixed Rope on ice axe going downward?
Is this where the short fixed line is?
Sometimes people will put up a rope.
wait until you go about another 200 yards up past the tree line. that's when the wind really starts to whip. great climb. have fun.
Wow great job on reaching your summit
been there done that. it's a great hike. congratulations on your summit
I so love winter hiking! Redline Guiding rules!!!!
