August Recap 2024 | From May To August | Photo Journal #19
For this part of the Photo Journal series, I came up with the idea to show what I had been shooting in the months of May, June, July & August.
Welcome back to the second part of this annual collection; From May To August.
With the month of August, I started to take some photos round Barnsley to use the Centon DF300 for the last time before I sold it to buy a new camera. After that, I shot quite a lot of films whilst down in Cornwall this year ranging from a lot of colour films to a few black and whites. Then I went and hosted another TYCE Photowalk in Sheffield and also during the walk I got the chance to shoot and use a Hasselblad XPAN II that I had kindly borrowed. And finally, just a dump of colour film from a roll of kodak gold 200 to show the last bits of summer.
Cameras Used:
- Contax 167MT #contax
- Pentax 645 #pentax
- Centon DF300
- Hasselblad XPAN II #hasselblad

Gig Photography on Film & Digital | Photo-Vlog

For this video, I went to Manchester to go shoot a gig that my friend had organised with her mates. The headline show was for a band called Mere Amore with supports from Joe Allan as well as Kristine Vedvik. Photo Journal #11 | Tromsø on Film

A cold, dark, yet cool experience. Tromsø, Norway, was a place I would've never thought I'd be travelling to at the start of 2024. But I will say that I enjoyed it and would definitely go again. I was only limited to one film camera because of the cold temperatures and it potentially freezing the electronics in the camera. That's why I didn't take any of my serious cameras. On this trip I went ...

Finding the Balance in Photography

In this video, I took a trip down to Cornwall with my family and I was lucky enough to borrow two cameras that I had seen as upgrades for better content in the future, but my opinion had changed. Whilst trying to make content and also trying to spend time with family, I start to think about how in these situations you can balance it out so you can do both. Cool summer pics! GT40 ! yeah!
The photos go by too quickly! Cool pics.
Damn I want an X-Pan so bad 😢
Just got mine this week from Japan and planning on putting a couple of rolls through it this weekend. This review convinced me it was the right one for me, especially your band shots! ❤
@@mickeef31 awesome stuff, you’ll not regret it. also what lens did you get with it?
@@e.oxleyYT I already had the 50/1.4 and 28/2.8 which I was adapting to my Fuji system so I’m good to go. Thanks again!!
I am getting this exact setup in a week! Really happy to see these vids and shots, looks really good! Still looking for a camera case myself, do you have one you reccomend?
@@tychojh3078 what kind of camera case?
@@e.oxleyYT something to keep the camera in while traveling
@@tychojh3078 you should look at the bellroy venture 10l, that’s bag that i use and it’s brilliant
Love the photo borders!
@@undrxpsd_ thank you 🙏🏻:)
The photos feel homey and fun, really cool 🎉
@@bertoldgerrychannel thank you very much i appreciate it! i’m glad that’s how the photos make you feel :)

love those photos you taken, and the background music
super funky
What the Sigma?
Very nice stuff my man!
@@patrickgerardphotography much appreciated ✌🏻
A very nice presentation the misty conditions gave the images a wonderful period feel
@@petercastell4450 i remember the forecast supposedly saying it was supposed to be sunny but as you can see, typical english weather :)
Cool result and editing. Feels homey.
@@bertoldgerrychannel it probably has to be my most favourite solo trip i’ve ever done, as well as it being my first. thought i’d just make the most of it :)
Many people talks about cameras, fewer talks about photography results as a fun part of travelling process. Thank you for sharing the your photography.
@@bertoldgerrychannel well i thought of making something worth documenting :)
The shots featured in the video look so atmospheric with raw quality and lots of depth.
@@julyisraining i’m working on a year long review of this camera so stay tuned ;)
Just bought this camera on Ebay after years of using digital. Do you know any good places to buy film? I'm also looking for photography labs that can dev and print contacts/prints. Any recommendations. I'm based in Sheffield.
@@julyisraining good choice! also for buying film, analogue wonderland is good. if you’re local to sheff. there’s either harrison cameras or jandastudios. they can also develop as well :)
did u should in log? or what profile did you use?
@@user-lj5fp4eh2r atm i don’t understand log but im hoping to give it a shot in the future. plus i used pp1 with the sunset setting.
very cozy video :) love that you're just playing around with the camera figuring it out in your own way! Keep it up :D (i got myself a sony a6000 and been really digging the camera!)

love these types of videos!! ur so good at what u do:)
@@beth-frost thank you and thank you so much :)
Do you meter every single shot and only take one reading on her face? Wondering if the Pentax 645 light meter gives correct exposure.
@@irismasor1853 yeah so i thought i would try and test which is more accurate, the 645 built in metering (which is pretty spot on sometimes) or the sekonic external meter (which is more refined and probably better). i’m hoping to get a medium format camera that’s fully mechanical and doesn’t have a built in light meter.
@@e.oxleyYT I just bought the Pentax 645 and have yet to roll test but I do have Sekonic L-858U light meter that I normally used on Nikon F4. Curious that the average light meter reading in the Pentax 645 tend to gives underexpose result.
@@irismasor1853 honestly opinion, you don’t really need the external light meter (personal preference), only because the metering in the pentax 645 is pretty spot on nearly every time with it being centre weighted.
@@e.oxleyYT Thanks mate. All you portraits photos turn out really great. I really like the colours.
Love your vlog background music
thank you, it’s just something chill for a chill video
so cool
thank you!
these are so good!

This is so sick thank you for coming all the way from the Peak District and making the night look as legendary as it was 🙏🏿

I think you did a great job. Id like to see you try out some candid photos. Seek out some big community events in your area and bring the 645. Portraits in a wider busier area like that are fun to see. I love doing concert portraits myself. Many music photographersbyou see just focus on getting the entire crowd and band in the photo. I want a cool portrait of the person playing the music i like. Excited to see more ny friend b
Amazing work. Such a tranquil watch. Also really appreciated the bits to camera, the vulnerability and honesty shown is refreshing. Keep it going man 👏🏻👏🏻
Really enjoyed this
I enjoyed our convesation on your Digley leg.
good stuff pal!
what film was used?
on which part? if you hold the timeline and scroll through, you can read the chapters.
Nice shots Ewan, well done!
Gorgeous
such a beautiful video! 😍
A long way to take good photos…use à 150 for portrait or be closer to your model, the should be on the first upper third of the frame, have the background further and use small aperture for a better bokeh, work on your exposure and use non expired film…you won’t waist film. You can also crop your photos afterward on the top…encouraging anyway and good camera.
thank you for your feedback, i’ve been looking at a 150mm for a while, but it’s a f/3.5 unless i can find one faster. i understand what you mean exposure wise, id just bought a light meter so i was testing that out too :)
fantastic video man! One thing i think you missed is just.... how sexy the camera looks too!
oh i forgot, how could i miss that? ;)
Balance is a big thing and more important than some people want to admit. I had my kids ask me one time if this was going to be a camping trip or was I just going to take pictures again. It is hard to do but there are times you need to leave the cameras at home.
I know what you mean about framing. I always seem to have too much room at the top of the image, especially in the vertical format. That said though I like the images you made and you will only get better with time.
Awesome pics Ewan. Keep up the good work
Really pretty shots! Subbed!
Gorgeous pics
thank you so much
Another fantastic video man. Content I love to consume and interesting to hear your thoughts on the beloved Fuji. Also found the topic you covered really relatable. When possible I do love to see a short video clip of the scene and then the photo to follow (but I know this just adds another thing to capture) but purely as a suggestion as I love the videos 🙏🏼
i'm glad you were able to take time, i appreciate it. i always tend to struggle with the topic and i try to find a way around it or you could say 'balance'. also i would've had the photos after the videos but with what i talked it about it was kind of difficult to do so but i'll definitely take your advice.
Wonderful work again Ewan. I find it hard to strike a balance between enjoying myself fully and creating content for youtube and insta, I sort of struck a balance carrying the MJU zoom and a small samsung digicam on days out with my family.
i'm glad you could relate, its a weird topic to cover but for a person who tends to carry a camera a lot i do find it difficult sometimes with either family or friends. end of the day, as long as you enjoy yourself doing what you like, its all worth it :)
such a lovely video & gorgeous shots!
Love this, what was the video shot on?
a panasonic hdc-sd20. a great camcorder!
What a great trip! Love the portrait on day 4!!
thank you!!

Good content man, love the shot at 13:24, doing my first shoot on the Pentax 645N on the 75mm prime lens tomorrow
