    A girl I knew won 2 tickets in blue seats for a game in 1990 at the Aud. She proceeded to ask me if I wanted to go the game. I did, we've been married for 32 years.

    Great job allowing the crowd roar and not trying to broadcast over it as many would be trying to do. Plus thankfully just one train horn blow allowing the same. That was one of the great old barns -like Chicago Stadium-Boston and Maple Leaf Gardens and soon to be gone Nassau Coliseum that really had a ROAR to it. Those older ones were built to hold that noise in. I recall sitting in last row orange in a corner and was never in a higher arena for hockey. Great old place missed by many here.

    I want the aud back. I loved walking into it as a kid. Felt intimate. My brother used to tease me and say if you sit in the orange you can fall over. I finally sat in the orange for a wrestling event and he wasn't kidding. Felt like it at least.

    • @54GARYBOY
      @54GARYBOY 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not for the faint hearted those seats! Sat in the last row of those high corners and felt like we were on the roof looking down. I am sure many fans through the years got those seats and just left them when their noses started to bleed.

    Whenever I hear the chant LETS GO BUFFALO I know that I am watching a Sabres home game. I listened to the last game on WGR 550 while I was studying for a test. I don't remember how well I did on the test but I sure do remember the game like it was yesterday. Growing up in Southern Ontario you get lots of Sabres and Leafs games on the radio and tv. I was at the Aud in 1995 with my Mom and we had a good look around the building. Sabres fans sure know how to party, just like fans of the Islanders and Rangers. What can I say New York in the state of hockey.

    Look at the way LaFontaine looks up at the banners, taking it all in. You could tell that he cared IMMENSELY-not just about the team's success, but its history and its city as well. He was fully bought-in. Shame about the injuries that took him out of the game. And shame that his short time as President of Hockey Ops for the Sabres was handled as poorly as it was, as he brought that same passion that he had there in '96.

      I was. Game itself was meh. That closing ceremony was extraordinary though. Fans were truly aware they were taking part in the end of an era all night: rowdy, classy, and respectful. Some crying with the final horn, others as they took the banners down.

      I was fortunate enough to visit The Aud twice before it closed its doors in April 1996. The first time was on March 17, 1994 (exactly one year before my grandfather died at age 91) to see the Sabres play the New Jersey Devils. The second time was in early February 1995 to see a college basketball doubleheader that featured nearby Canisius College. Boy oh boy, the Metro rail sure was convenient for fans going to The Aud -- it dropped you off right at the entrance on Main Street.

    My first game was the next year when the Aud was destined for demolition. I was among the first to enter HSBC but I feel cheated I never got to go to the Auditorium. I fell in love with the Sabres watching Mogilny, Ray, Lafontaine, Audette, Hasek, and all the others but never got to see them where the the french connection played. My relationship with the Aud comes from stories my old man passed down. I was a year too late.

    +28brasco The reason why they play both national anthems at Sabres games is because of Buffalo's close proximity to Canada, as well as the team's substantial number of Canadian fans.

    • @OldRustySteele
      @OldRustySteele ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve always liked that they played both anthems in Buffalo. You’d think that they would do the same in Detroit, where only the Detroit River separates them from Windsor, Ontario. Lots of folks in Windsor and other surroundings towns in Southwestern Ontario are Red Wings fans.
