► How much we spent trekking Everest Base Camp & Three Passes
We started to edit the footage from our amazing trip to Everest Base Camp in November and decided to make a short video about how much it cost.
Firstly, when you enter Nepal, you have to pay for the visa. That is 50 dollars per person for 30 days.
Then we brought the plane tickets from Kathmandu to Lukla through an agency in Thamel.
The cost was 220 dollars per person.
From Thamel to the airport, the taxi costs around 4 to 5 dollars.
After you start the hike, you have to pay for the Trek Card, which you can buy either from Lukla or at the checkpoint in Monjo.
The Trek Card was around 22 dollars per person.
At the checkpoint in Monjo, you also have to pay for the entrance permit to Sagarmatha National Park.
That’s another 22 dollars.
Accommodation:
Since we did the trek at the end of the season, we managed to get most of the rooms for free with the condition to eat at their restaurant.
We only paid twice, each time around 4 dollars, so it was very cheap.
It’s very important to know that the prices for accommodation are negotiable.
Food and drinks:
At lower altitudes, you get similar prices to those in Kathmandu, around 4 to 5 dollars for Dal Bhat or other noodle or rice dishes.
Once you go higher, the prices start to rise, with the maximum being around 9 to 10 dollars for a dish in Lobuche or Gorakshep.
For drinks, we mostly had small teapots, priced between 4 to 8 dollars, depending on the altitude, which included around 6 to 8 cups of tea.
Daily, we paid for food and drinks per person, from around 12 dollars at lower altitudes to 23 dollars which was the maximum in Lobuche.
For drinking water, we had a very good filter that we used for the entire trip.
You can find bottled water at every accommodation or local small shop for less than a dollar at the beginning of the trek, but reaching as high as 4 dollars per bottle at high altitudes.
Internet:
Until Namche, and even a little above that, you have signal from local providers. We bought a local SIM from Kathmandu for 10 dollars.
After that, you can either negotiate for free Wi-Fi or pay for it. The prices range from 4 to around 8 dollars.
Charging:
Is also negotiable. We managed to get it for free in most of the tea houses.
The price for charging is similar to that of internet, ranging from 4 to 10 dollars.
After we finished the trek, we decided to go back to Kathmandu by Jeep.
Here, the costs are 22 dollars for the first part, from Paiya to Salleri, and 15 dollars for the second, from Salleri to Kathmandu.
For us, the total cost for this trek was just under 700 dollars per person.
