Feeding my 15-Year Old+ Pond Crappie's Cicada
I have had most of the fish in this pond for every 15-years some for up to 18-years. I didn't know Crappie lived that long.
I had no idea here are some facts about Crappie:
The record for the longest crappie was a 19.3-inch black crappie. Crappies have an average maximum life span of 7 years. The oldest recorded age was a black crappie that was 15 years old.
I have caught black crappie way over 19.3 Inches I have a picture of one that is 22 inches. If you like I can post it just ask.

This project looks really interesting and seems very efficient! However, I have a question regarding the materials used for the hydroponic grow tower, particularly the buckets and the plastic. Isn't there a risk that harmful toxins might be released from the plastic when it's exposed to the sun's heat outside, which could then be absorbed by the plants through their roots? As far as I know, some plastics can release carcinogenic substances, especially at high temperatures. How safe is this system in terms of the health of the plants and ultimately the people consuming them?

Yes, you add them as needed. You can produce a crop of leafy produce such as Basil, Lettuce, and almost all greens in about 25-days. I am not doing big fruiting crops indoors anymore they take up too much space. Also pollination becomes a problem with some items. th-cam.com/video/dL72db6SQ5U/w-d-xo.html See that Video I think it is about 25 days of growth from seeds.

Let glue dry fully before testing. Also, DISCARD the water from the test. PVC glue is really solvent to melt the pieces together, a jellied mixture of tetrahydrofuran (THF) and cyclohexanone. You don't want either in your plants and food. THF is water miscible and can persist for a long time. I'm a chemist (Ph.D.)! Thanks for the great video!

Thanks Mike, great general design. From observation, I am trying to figure out if there is a way to insert the holders and perhaps silicon around the edges to eliminate the leaking on the exterior of the main down pipes. I realize that your method for your reservoir will catch the leakage so perhaps no big deal, but I think of deposit of minerals etc. on the outside of the pipes as unsightly and a bit of a cleaning nuisance so I would rather not have that if it is possible. The other thing I thought of to reduce the costs based is based on a few other designs I have seen . You have used expensive PVC fittings to connect the top ends of your 4 inch riser - as I see it, the primary purpose is to join together and in doing so, stabilize your top ends ? Might I suggest, if you were to construct a plywood (or similar) top "lid" that would hold the pipes in the same positions as they were coming out from the reservoir lid, you would get the same stabilizing results as your current 4 inch fittings strategy. To hold the designed plywood end cap at the preferred level, you could slide pipe clamps onto each of the 4 inch pipes to an equal height on all 6 pieces. (to level) You could install inexpensive end caps on to the end of each 4 inch pipe. For water feed supply, I saw where a single 1/2 inch solid PVC pipe was connected to,... and run from the reservoir pump to a few inches above the finish height of the 4 inch pipe ends, a 1/2 inch T splitter followed by a 1/2 inch 5 way splitter installed (together 5 ay on top of the T), at the end of the 1/2 inch feeder line. Then, (from the T), 2 branches off to feed 2 of the 4 inch tubes,... From the 5 way splitter) , 4 branches off to feed the other 4 inch tubes. That is for total of 6 4 inch growing tubes. Finally, you would need run a total of 6 separate short 1/2 inch lines from the T and the 5 way open ends, over to the top of each 4 inch pipe and 90 degree down into the top of each. You would need to cut 1 - 5/8 " Diameter or so hole in the center of the top of each end cap to allow the supply water line into the top of the pipe. That's pretty much it. PS plywood positioned at close to the ends of the 4 inch pieces should stay high and dry so never touch the nutrient medium or affect the plants. HAPPY HYDROPONICS Thanks again for your great ideas

I have all the leakage going back into the system, but in this design I have not been able to stop all the leaks but most of them. You can add a sleeve to the bottom of the pot that will stop most of the leaks.
