The Xiaomi firmware does not offer the same level of freedom as OpenWRT even with Docker integration as docker packages has to support Aarch64/8 architecture. I have managed to unlock SSH (following tutorial on Chinese site), and operate with docker from there but OpenWRT is not yet available publicly and that is my preferred way. I saw that that such firmware exist but it is not public and don't know why. Does anybody know how to get this QWRT firmware and why this firmware is not in public yet?

Hello, thanks for providing useful information. I have this device and I am trying to install wireguard. I have been able to install wireguard through the image manager or so I think and I have tried to create the Wireguard container but I'm not sure if I did it correctly. The procedure I do is as follows: I click on the wireguard boot image button and then click on simple mode. But there I get a series of parameters that I have no idea if I have to put something. I just put the name of the container and press run. Then I go to the container management section and click on the start wireguard container button. Once this is done, I click on the terminal button and there I try to put the wireguard configuration in which I add my public IP and a password as indicated in their GitHub. What happens is that nothing happens. And looking at what you do at minute 5:06, I see that you put docker pull frapsoft/snort And if I try to do that the terminal spits out this: sh: docker: not found

Honestly, I think Ubiquiti’s choice to have it enabled by default is the right call. In my mind, wi-fi meshing is a convenience feature for consumers to make it easy to deploy wi-fi over a large area without the effort or expense of cabling. For Ubiquiti to compete with the mesh wi-fi products targeting this demographic that don’t know or care how this stuff all works and just want acceptable wi-fi it needs to be super easy out of the box. For those of us that do know and care about this small performance difference, it’s not unreasonable to expect us to manually adjust the settings to optimise performance. The defaults should be the most compatible settings that will provide the best experience for uninformed users with minimal tinkering and I think that this fits that brief.

how do u compare ubiquiti mesh vs say tplink deco/omada and asus? for tplink deco, they can do wired or wireless backhaul. and do a mix like have 1 ap wired, but the other wireless. also it has good roaming performance for wifi clients when moving about when handing switching between the closest aps. i just don't know how the ubiquiti especially their newer models perform as ap meshing in comparison

    • @hungryafrican420
      @hungryafrican420 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

I personally have used both and the wireless meshing system on ubiquiti works just as well, however given the cost and performance of ubiquiti gear, using it as such neuters and defeats the purpose of buying into the unifi ecosystem. There are also a few caveats attached with the wireless uplinking and as always mesh may or may not work well in your own environment.

    • @AinzOoalG0wn

@@hungryafrican420 yeah but the idea of wireless backhaul is for people who want a satelite ap node but aren't able to connect a wired connection to the satelite. so though there is a performance impact, it's flexible in allowing some connectivity in such a way. but for those able, they can do wired backhaul, like tplink does, and this would allow best performance when connecting to the satelite aps connected in this way. anyway ty for ur comment appreciated

Hmm. Have you tried using something like meshing a Unifi Express with a client hardwired into the Express? I'd be interested to see the results of a client hardwired into a Unifi Express saturating the wireless mesh connection. I have a Unifi Express in my living room with an Xbox hardwired into it. I had a electromagnetic surge from lightning that hit nearby my house it corrupted the boot loader so it's stuck in a boot loop. the regular nanohd on my network was unphased by it. I called ubiquiti to see if they'd service it or offer a refurb like some companies will if you return the broken one and pay a set fee, but they do not offer those services. I'm very hesitant to buy another ubiquiti product because I've never had this issue with any access points before and it seems like this should have been fixable instead of throwing it away. I could see this same thing happening with the fan. Fan's die, especially when they collect dust over time. I only had my ac hd for a year and just out of warranty

Just FYI, today, there was a different one available on everyone's favorite mass e-commerce reselling platform from South America. This one is ASIN: B0CVJPCQFJ The new one is: B0DFHRYRH6 and it's called the MSI Herald-BE WI-FI 7 MAX There is a huge external difference, but same antenna. It says it's out of stock already. The MAX comes with a shield around it like it's really supposed to, but that makes it harder to rob and put in a laptop like some people are doing. Qualcomm NCM865 like the naked card. Same price. So I don't know if there are any differences on the inside or if this is just an update to put their logo on it and hide the M.2 E Key slot and card. The MSI website did not seem to have the drivers listed, so it's hard to see if they are shipping the same ones. Maybe they are waiting on FCC ID to get their parts shipping or something. Also, only the global MSI website had the new one. The USA site doesn't.

UI website says 'max power consumption 25 W' and 90+ % of that get converted into Heat ... too much IMHO

I agree with your analysis! I have a question: regarding the U7-Pro, besides the missing features like "MLO", is it stable? Or do the clients connected to it have connection issues?

I found it more stable and with a far better thermal management.

@SamBondor So, in your experience, is it safe for production use cases?

What a lousy list of reasons. 1. MLO is still implemented. The first EA firmware is out there and Intel is also working on it (I got that BE200 non-vPro also). Let them develop it further. The mechanism is still young. 2. Yeah, that's what you get with new technologies. You'll be happy in 1½ year from now that you got it. 3&4. The U6-Mesh was warm. Be happy that they build it in. It will work, when it needs it. They put it there with a purpose. 5. Same as point 2, it's early and you'll be happy in a year or so. And there are lots of devices with WiFi 6E at the 6GHz band, so be happy that 6GHz AP's are getting cheaper, now WiFi7 AP's are introduced. You know what? Send it over to me. I guess I can appreciate the device more, and start making some positive TH-cam video's.

      1. I don't think it's wise to buy stuff with the promise they will perform in a certain way in the future. Probably Ubiquiti will offer MLO and it will work great at which point everyone, including myself will be happy. And may be they will not. 2. The device is too hot. You can see it in the video, it will burn your fingers. The fan doesn't do anything. On the U7 Pro, it worked fine, but not on the U7 Pro Max. I get that you like Ubiquiti and, while I try to stay agnostic, I have been fond of them for years as well. But by god, the U7 Pro Max is not a good device. But maybe you're right and things will get better soon. I will do a video of reasons why you should buy it when that happens. I will gladly send it over, but I still need to run some tests until it gets better, if it does. Let's talk again after about a year.

@@SamBondor Yeah, I wasn't assuming someone would just send a device over like that. And I guess it's a whole different situation over a year from now.

I don't like its chain configuration. It is 2 x 4 x 2 (2.4/5/6GHz). I preferred 2 x 3 x 3 as 6GHz guarantees the latest high efficiency MIMO tech. Not like 5 GHz which old device make fancy high number of chain feature useless.

@@kengpai7883 For actual support, I assume either HP or Mediatek will help you better than anyone here can. I can give you my two cents though. Check the web for the MT7925 driver and download them manually. That's what I did and after a reboot, it worked on an Intel and an AMD-based Desktop PC.

I haven't yet gotten access to this firmware version, but will happily retest the U7 Pro and the Pro Max to see if MLO will get enabled and if it will work properly.
