This channel is dedicated to my grandfather Kuro Walther who left us not only with tons of photos (another big hobby of his) but also with a series of super 8 home films which we are now able to view. Hope you enjoy my channel!

1973 Wagon Train, Highway 50 Association

In 1973 my granddaddy, Kuro Walther, filmed the 1973 Wagon Train trek with a Super 8 mm camera. During his trips to the US and Canada (from Holland) he’s filmed many events. Almost 50 years later I found these film reels up in the attic in my moms house. Luckily she kept all of them. Just recently I started to digitise this material and have been uploading to TH-cam. I added the background music.

I was stationed on Treasure Island SF 1966-67, and again 1969-73 (actually lived in Navy housing on TI until 1975). It was a cool city back then, even with the hippies. I remember our favorite restaurant on Fisherman's Wharf was Sabella & La Torre. In 1966-67 we lived in an apartment on Gough (and Filbert), an old Victorian apartment building that is still there.
the background music doesn't fit . Play the Doobie Bros.
America was so much nicer and cleaner back then.
I was waiting for Dirty Harry with his Magnum to run across the street chasing a criminal.
I am doing a history video of this place. Can I use some of your footage for my video? I will put a link to your channel and video in the description. Let me know, thanks
Went there in 1973, great memories and fun times. This is how I will remember it for me.
Love the poncho!! so 73!
Still looks the same as it did in this video, except the cars are different.
Really? It's a cesspool now. Mayor voted out of office Nov. '24. Let's see if it gets better. Not holding my breath, though.
@@marstondavis Do you live there now or in the past? If so, what neighborhood?
Fisherman's Wharf looks nothing like that now
Those poor visitors on the log ride (2:27). They just vanished. I don't believe the monorail was electrically powered. Diesel motors powered it.
Kaliman el taurino de playas
Grew up nearby. Knotts was so quaint back then. Not competing with D'land it was low tech and charming in the way low tech can be.
First year of the HALLOWEEN HAUNT .
El taurino de playas de t[juana
I grew up in OC in the 70’s and Knott’s Berry Farm was so great back then. My aunt worked at the chicken restaurant back in the 50’s.
I was born on the year this was filmed.
My Dad Loved that place...
I lived here in 1973 for a year with my sister, mother and step father and our dog Charlie.❤
Wish I could go back then
Thank you for sharing!
Que chingon….
its a dennys now
Not a long time ago in the overall scheme of things. A mere flicker nearly unnoticed in history, only known in the memories of those who lived it.
A better time.
An epoch when America was the coolest place to be with such great possibility. Sadly, trashed now.
GREAT SHARPNESS provides a unique window of opportunity into a bygone era to the queen city of the planet. That is no more ..that. An excellent short entry.
I was there that summer as an 11-year old tourist. Passed thru each summer driving from Phoenix to Seattle. Candlestick Park for a Giants game or two, a couple meals at the wharf, head up to Redding and beyond... what great times.
Came back for the Music

We lived in the next town over and we had a rooster that crowed all the time so my parents made me take it to the lake at Knott's and dump it off. I had just gotten my driver's license and I was scared that I would get arrested for leaving the rooster. The drive over was fun though listening to Crocodile Rock. The boysenberry pie was fantastic. Great memories.
0:29 Kids selling fake flowers. I went there as a kid in '72 and lots of kids selling Chicklets and flowers for a few Centavos.
Hi, I'm putting together a video about the Everly Brothers. They had their huge falling out during a performance at Knott's Berry farm, in 1973. I was wondering if I might be allowed to use this as stock footage for that video?
I would go there as a kid. Great memories of the samples and rides.

This 1973 compilation of San Francisco is as side-by-side clean to Disneyland's iconic Main Street -- proportionately -- when COMPARED TO the total cesspool, open toilet, violent, unsafe, UGLY, poorly policed San Francisco of 2024. A downfall, a human, civic TRAGEDY right before our eyes, the world's eyes. Unfortunately, the people to blame for this felonious transformation had minimal or no interference from authorities or the right people who care. Thank you, "Super 8 Film Kuro Walther."
So sad what years of Republican policies that favor the rwealthy corporations have done to a once beautiful city
@@nobodiesbusiness100 The State has been run by Democrats for years, and S.F. has been totally run by Democrats since 1964. D. A. Pull your head out. FAIL
In reality, it looks basically the same except San Francisco looks BETTER than it does in this footage.
Maybe if these videos are shown to young people, they will realize that the policies they support are harmful and destructive, and they will change their woke ways.
@@nobodiesbusiness100 There have been no Republicans in office in SF for 50+ years!
Wish I could back there
I hope there's a trigger warning on this video because there's gun fire we don't want to scare any of these little children that can't handle some fun at knots

Wow!I remember going on all those rides and taking pictures with the 2 ladies on the bench!Good times
I lived in San Fernando and we used to go all of the time. My father didn't mind taking us because he got free samples of beer.
We went to the San Diego (and LA) Zoo several times in the Seventies. Don't remember it well, but I do know I enjoyed both.
