Tim's 40th Bikepacking Snowy Mountains Ride
Tim from "adVANture ST" wanted to celebrated his 40th birthday with a Bikepacking ride through the Snowy Mountains so he invited Bikepackers to join him on a 4 day ride from Jindabyne to Thredbo, Mt Pilot Wilderness and down to the Snowy River and then back to Jindabyne, I joined them on day 2 as we leave from the "Thredbo Diggings" campground.

Amazing wooden structure built strong enough to carry trains over really deep gorges. I wonder if the earliest train crews felt much excitement crossing those bridges during floods.
If nine mile looked that steep on video, it must have been so much worse going down in person. I think I made the right decision turning back at Thredbo.
@@juzzzy.b yes it was steep but it was good fun.
Great video Gerard. Nice to meet you.
Thanks Chris.. Great to meet and ride with you.
Great video Gerard! Was fun riding with you, especially on that massive hill!
Thanks Ryan it was great to meet and ride with you...and I think you hold the title of being the only rider to ride the Nine Mile with a trailer.
Awesome video. Good to see how steep the pinch is! Nice to meet you out there
@@natanderson4195 Thanks Nat , nice to meet you.
I've been waiting for Tims' video, nice preview.
Nice one Gerard. I'm about halfway into my edit and its really cool seeing the ride from others perspective. Thanks again for coming along, thanks for the gift, and when can we do it again. I had such a good time. Cheers
@@advanturest Thanks Tim.. looking forward to seeing your video, I’m thinking it will be a big one.
Happy belated birthday Tim 🎉
Cheers Shad. Officially an old bugger now 😂
Great video, thanks for sharing. Is that the Big Agnes bikepacking tent you're using? Cheers 🍻
Probable route -> maps.app.goo.gl/dp4YycDSYjhAa9cKA
Amazing 🎉 watching from Italy
Thanks for the recon, be doing this one in a coupe of months time but in the other direction. Very nice rig btw.
Great video!
Haha - I like the Van Duzer "Ole" chant but where was the "No crashies, no flaties, no whammies" chant? The Lilydale to Warburton RT is my fav RT here in Melbourne. Great stuff...
Great vid again, passing thru my neighbourhood North Carlton, what brand bike looks like a Curve??? cheers
Thanks, Lovely area Carlton, I had the bike frame made by Corvid Cycles in the USA, have a Curve front fork
Nice video, how many kms approx one way?
Hi …only around 50kms. But all up hill, then the way back very rough a lot of up and down
@@bikepackingadventures1988 might attempt it on my fat bike
Well done on the video. I’ll make sure I travel that way summer of 24 when I travel over from the West.
Fantastic really enjoyed this. Quite fortuitous for me, currently in Deniliquin on my way to euchla tomorrow after finishing NSW, never bikepacker Victoria, can't wait after watching this. With gratitude P.T trying 🦘☮️🦘
Good work. And hello from Ballarat. Big River Road in the heat must have been tough … then the rain …noted your tent … just scouting for a new tent so any info on yours ?
www.venturethrill.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/ALPS-Mountaineering-Lynx-on-Hill-1024x683.jpg Hi Ian ... I have had this tent for around six years,
If only the XPT from Sydney allowed unboxed bikes. NSW is so backward
Didn’t know that..won’t be travelling north on the train.
Thanks for sharing, another great ride to put on my list.
great capture of the south eastern Australia bush
good video, bike looked nice and safe on the train the melbourne
Well done mate. Another great journey.
So now we know why you weren't on the Dungers ride on Sunday😂
Beautiful ride Gerard🙌. I was driving from Marysville to Albury around then, I wonder if I passed you🤔
Hi Angela, yes Marysville was just over the next valley. I watched your video.
Thanks for making these Gerard. Really enjoyed them (and your other videos for that matter 🙂). Having followed the Vic Divide 550 event a few times it's a nice insight into some of the route. Shame about the big rain event that came through and cut your plans short. What was the plan from Mansfield? Here's a guess: Great Victorian Rail Trail to Tallarook and then onto the train back to Albury? Cheers.
I had planned to ride to Bonnie Doon where I had arranged a lift as I needed to work Monday.
Nice ride mate. So much great riding to be had in Victoria. I visited Forrest and Anglesea in November. Absolutely fell in love with the place. Jeez I hope the Big River campsite is far enough away from that hoon wrecked intersection. What were the boom gates on the freeway about? Incase of a tunnel incident?
I have ridden quite a lot in the Warburton, Reefton, Lake Mountain area. Unfortunately hoons are a real problem in this area. Obviously drawn by the beauty like it's cyclists. I've seen car groups of high powered cars doing donuts in the car park near the top of Donna Buang. Middli evof the day. One of the nicest climbs I've ever done. The car park is covered in rubber. I actually had a go at them but they didn't care at all. No police around and park rangers are powerless.
Also, yes they are too stop traffic going into the tunnels in an emergency. They're also on the West Gate Bridge.
Thanks, it was a great ride through the Big River…. And I didn’t even notice the boom gates in the photo,
How long did this one take you?
Hi…4 days
@@bikepackingadventures1988 not a bad pace considering some of the climbs you did. Have you ever gone from Hotham to the West Kiewa Logging rd? I'was thinking to walk my bike down that zigzagging track past the Red Robin mine and maybe do Diamantina Spur by foot with the bike dropped at the bottom.
Hi rode from porepunkah to Mt Hotham and down to Blair’s Hut camped the night next day ride down west Kiewa up Dumphys track over back to Porepunkah
@@bikepackingadventures1988what were the most challenging bits from a cycling perspective?
You are inspiring.
Great Video🎉
Nice , thats a pretty big day with lots of climbing. Love that trail ,,, and talk of the extension from shelly onwards?
amazing!
Great videos, thanks.
Wow, amazing. Great photography.
Thanks , Nick
awesome ride and country
Thanks
Another great video - great use of Moby's music. It is good to see O'Hagens now has a long drop. Big hills - respect!
Thanks
Top effort, very very tough going. Great drone shot of before you got to the top. Was up there in the late 80’s but in a 4wd Other drone shots certainly show the devastation from the 2019/20 fire.
Thanks.. yes the fires have killed a lot of the big Mountain Ash and Snow Gums, there is regrowth but it’s going to take a lot of years before they are fully established. Still it is beautiful alpine country.
Wow, awesome trip, it's awesome Country on the Border. Did you cross along that old rail treswell bridge? looks like it's got alot of teeth missing, you're gamer than me lol
Hi David..no you can’t ride across any of them and never will as they are beyond fixing unless they are pulled down and rebuilt and that will never happen, still they look better in there original deteriorating state.
Wow...just wow. Wonderful scenery and great filming mate✌️
Thanks Mark
Great video mate..geez spring and autumn are just awesome here in Victoria for this type of trips..I just love it. Take care K✌️
That is a great video mate. We did a trip into O'Hagens, then up over Mt Pinnabar and Mt Gibbo back in Jan 22. Good to see there is a new hut at Wheelers Creek. Some big hills you have wheeled up and down - well done.
grouse
Amazing
Thank you
A bit more commentary. Would be good
Thanks Gerrard, being enjoying your adventures, didn't realise your hidden talents
Cool Video, I've just moved to Albury and enjoy cycle touring when I can get out there, need to explore these areas sometime when i get to build the fitness levels up, now longer a spring chicken. I own a Vivente Patagonia which is about 6 yrs old now. I knew there was a bridge across Lake Hume but I didn't know there was a ferry there as well. We had a few Cable ferries across the Clarence River up Between Grafton and Maclean. I've watched most of your videos over time when i was getting some idea of this area. Thanks for the great video.
Hi David…thanks
Plenty of keen gravel riders (not spring chickens either) around Albury, contact me if you want to hook up.
@@normmc Hi Norm…I think I’ve ridden with you before, Sundays with Martin, Dave a few others, is that correct?….Thanks Gerard
@@bikepackingadventures1988 Yes that's me Gerard
@@bikepackingadventures1988 Thanks Norm, will do that for sure, I've just started a new job so we'll see how that pans out but i think most weekends will be free.
Just getting into bikepacking, what bike do you use?
Good video Mate
Great video again Mate.
