Hachiman Hikigaya X Killswitch Lullaby - Flawed Mangoes
God I hated this show. It was absolutely amazing, pulled at my heart strings, and I've got nothing but praises, an easy 10/10. But I hate it. I hate it, because I realised just how much of me was the problem. I'm not alone because the world hates me, even if that's true. I'm alone, because I can't seem to change. I push away those who get close to me, so that I never have to worry about getting rejected, but honestly?
I just suck. I push them away, and convince myself that it's for the best, and it very well could be. But then I set in self wallowing pity, wondering how a person can be so alone.
Hachiman showed me that I'm not special. Our mindsets aligned at a point, and yet we both grew into different people. The current me would look down on that Hachiman-like self, of self perception and fear. As though I've changed. But my circumstances are still the same, and I haven't changed at all.
Hachiman's growth showed me what I really want, who I really am, and what I really have to do. Change, but stay true to myself. Changing for others personal wants is a no go, but changing for others in general is necessary.
Humans ARE social creatures. The world may have moulded me into a bear, but at my core, I was only a bear because I didn't belong anywhere but the woods. Who decides that? The looks of the outsiders? Only if you let them. You have the choice to leave. It's going to take time, years likely. But I yearn for the day that I can say, I'm no longer a bear.
A bit deep, eh? It goes deeper, but I think I've said enough. Hachiman's character wasn't the only amazing thing from the show, in fact, there was another character who I can't relate to at all that destroyed me. But the key take away is that even us Bear's who are doomed to loneliness, can break free of the woods. In the show, Hachiman was able to do this through the help of other characters, true, but without his own efforts, and willingness to change, he would've been the same, lonely bear until he passed. I know most bears don't have anyone. We're alone in our woods, with nothing to drag us out. Even still. If that's the case, you have to venture out of your woods, if you wish to find your pack.

When I got the news of Akira Toriyama's passing, I was talking to my Fiance' about it. She told me, "That's sad, I mean he raised you." I didn't realize it at the time, but Akira Toriyama basically gave me the only father figure that permanently stuck with me through my childhood. Now that he's gone, I still listen to stuff like this, and I appreciate it all the more...hearing, "I know you can do this Gohan, I promise," it takes me back and makes me remember just how much those words meant to me, and still mean. Thanks Akira Toriyama...for everything.
